Fox Hollow Golf Club
About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

Good Course and Value
Fox Hollow offers a scoreable, relatively short course, but there is big-time danger lurking on some holes. The par 3's are all challenging and with the hills, some shots are blind. The greens were in good shape considering that the foursome in front of us never fixed a ball mark. They also have some good canting to them, so be careful, especially when you are above the hole.
Good shape, good value
This is a nice course that I will play again. The only downside I could note was the greens were a little boring. Mostly just placed on the side of hills with big back to front slants that got a little old. Otherwise was a nice round
A great course for a great round...
It was a perfect day for golf. although I can't say that the course was perfect. I would be hard pressed to find something wrong with it. The greens were quick and in great shape and fairly challenging. Some pin locations made them extremely difficult (some four and a five putt in our group). which made for some cursing and a lot of laughing. The course seems to play longer than its yardage suggests and is very well designed for maximum enjoyability - That is if you actually enjoy this game !!!
Good Value
Course in great shape. enjoyed the course. Will go back.
Great Course
This was the first time in over 30 years that I had the opportunity to play here and I was very pleased.
This course is beautifully maintained with a fair layout.
Don't be surprised if you play it for the first time to score a little higher than you expected there are some challenging holes that having played the tract before would make a big difference.
I would highly recommend it to everyone and I will be back hopefully often.

My favorite public course in NJ
I have to say this is definitely my favorite public course in NJ. I love it. Definitely challenging and very beautifully laid out.
Hilly Course
We played after three days of rain so it was cart path only. The course was in good shape, but for the bunkers which had no or hard packed sand. The rough around the greens was very thick and made chipping a real challenge. 9 and 18 are par 3s over water played longer than my GPS yardage showed. The course layout was not particularly memorable, alot of up and down holes. As for value I think there better choices for the money.
Looking Forward to Playing Again
This course, while not being long, is rather narrow and has small greens, placing a premium on accuracy. I enjoyed the layout and look forward to going back for a second round. Despite being mid-May, it's relatively early in the season and the greens were aerated recently (three weeks ago, according to the person I spoke with in the pro shop). The aeration holes were still noticeable and the greens were a little bumpy. Additionally, there were certain parts of the course where the gnats were brutal. It was a bit humid, so hopefully this is not the norm. However, there were areas with streams/creeks/ponds and the gnats were bad. Next time I'll put the bug spray in my bag.
In my opinion, this course is not worth the price they charge during prime time. I booked my tee-time through GolfNow and, despite the $6+ in booking fees, the overall price was reasonable.
Will go back.
Course was good for this early int he season
Never played before when there was some residual snow on a course. After the winter we had this yr I guess it was to be expected this early in the season. It did not hinder play, however. I suspect the course will be in better shape as the season progresses though it was no too bad considering. Overall a good course, just a little pricey.
A real gem of a course. Not sure why reviews on Yelp, Google of course not overall positive. Would play here again easily.
Played one of first days open for 2015 season. Course conditions, including greens, very good given course covered in snow week prior. Only few areas soggy but none terrible. One large fairway bunker not maintained - can't recall hole - but again course snow covered days prior to my playing. Not sure what history of course is but truly beautiful layout. Mindful of private course layouts I play and have played in past. Playing partner and I wondering if course was private equity only club at some point that opened up to public. Hilly to walk but personally enjoyed that. Not for everyone, however. 12:05 p.m. tee time. Young man behind pro shop counter asked me to wait until after 12 noon to pay because that is when prices drop in computer. Apparently cannot discount prices in computer system manually which I had no problem with. Range only cost $5 for unlimited golf balls. Great deal. Range with 4 targets not including close range elevated green to hit to and practice sand bunker. Course easily accessible off of routes 287 and 78. Does not take long to get to despite mileage listed on GolfNow, similar to Panther Valley Country Club in Allamuchy. Really no complaints at all. A real gem of a course. Not sure why reviews on Yelp, Google, etc. of course not overall positive. Not indicative of experience at Fox Hollow GC. Really enjoyed time there. Would play there again easily.
Fall Golf at Fox Hollow
The overall course today was in good condition. Several fairways were undergoing aeration. Greens are very fast and the average golfer will have to land the ball just short of the green to avoid going off the back. All of the employees were friendly and the food at the bar was better than average.
Hackers beware
Great course....very challanging. Alot of dog legs and water but the greens and fairways were in excellent shape.
Beautiful course!
This is a beautiful course with some great views. We played on a rainy day (of course, not what the weatherman predicted) but the conditions were still pretty good, soft in spots but that's expected. We were at the course a half hour ahead of tee time but still waited 10-15 minutes after our tee time. I see someone else's review that members take precedence and I'm pretty sure that's what happened. Other than that, no real complaints. We played with 2 young guys, members, and they really gave us the lay of the land and helped us find our way. Food was great! A little pricey at $105/round but would definitely look to play there again.
Good Value for Money
For a Public Course the Greens are surprisingly fast. The course is a bit tricked up in terms of contouring of the fairways and the greens. You will be playing a lot of shots above or below your feet. Watch out for the 3 Foot putts, you will be surprised how easily you could miss them.
Up...and down...
Conditions were good...greens rolled fast and true....lots of break...Tee boxes were pristine....we played from the tips...makes a challenging course more so...too much up and down for me, but it was enjoyable nonetheless...would recommend...and will consider playing again.
convenient of golfnow
Easy to use and saving great app. Great time and well information thank you ^~^
Must play course
Showed up as a single, and was able to get out quickly. Thoroughly enjoyed the hilly and beautiful course, friendly helpful staff, and fast greens! Just an overall nice course and experience! Will be back with friends for sure!
Pricey but worth it
In a word, I would describe this course as "flawless." I don't think I've ever played a course where there wasn't a bare patch or brown spot or a blade of grass out of place! It's not the most difficult course I've ever played, but it is plenty challenging, for golfers of all skill levels. Although I couldn't really afford to play this course but on a rare occasion, I would say it is definitely a gift worth giving yourself.
9 & 18 from what I recall from yesterday is like 145 to the center of both greens. Love that holes. You are right about the hills. I wouldn't want to play that course on a cart path only day unless I absolutely knew I was good enough to keep the ball close to the cart path.
