Fox Hollow Golf Club
About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

Course was in good shape, not too busy on a weekday afternoon.
Staff wasn't friendly and no greetings. Feel a bit cheated as we paid $60 each to play on a weekday afternoon as the advertised GolfNow price, but when we paid at the course it was $90 each. $30 each ($60) for one cart was a bit excessive when several holes were cart path only.
Very hilly course. Not easy to walk.
A little disappointed in the course conditions. I felt that Golf Now should have notified us that the course was recently aerified. Flooding must've effected this course because several holes were full of mud. Course was very empty so we got to play at our own pace. Course is very hilly making it difficult to walk. No water on the course so you are at the cart girl's mercy.
Pretty course layout
Went there with high hopes of enjoying the course as I was playing this course for the first time. When I got to the course, they told me that the back nine is closed due to aeration and the front nine was aerated but playable. What???!!! Aren't they (either the course or Golfnow) supposed to let people know about this at the time of booking? Went with high hopes but came back with a big disappointment. Not fair and not right. The course layout was pretty (at least the first nine holes). The greens are slopes and seem challenging but had holes and sand all over. They should have either closed the course or let people know at the time of booking. Disappointed. Would recommend this course to a friend under normal condition and 18 holes of playing.
Beautiful and challenging layout ... near country club conditions
We were concerned about course with 6 par 3's but the course neither lacks character nor seems "under nourished" due to the lack of 2 par 4's on the card. Each hole offers different challenges and the smaller than average greens bring into play more of the hazards. Highly recommended!
VERY hilly
The course was in pretty good shape (greens were great, but the fairway on a few holes needed work), but beware! The course is extremely hilly. I'm sure if you play this course enough, you could figure out where the flat spots are. However, being a first timer on this course, it was one side/down/up-hill lie after another. If you are accustomed to playing on mostly flat courses with gentle elevation changes, this course will be challenging.
The course was practically empty for a Saturday morning. Our foursome ran into mostly twosomes. So, the pace of play was good. The amenities at this course were great. Driving range, putting green, pro shop and restaurant (full service with a real menu, NOT a "coffee shop" with just hot dogs and burgers). All in all, not a bad experience, but the price is a bit steep at $107 each. Neshanic Valley is a better value...if you can get on and done mind a slower pace of play!
Excellent course for a great value
This course is very well maintained and always in good condition. There are a vareity of holes with layouts that offer different challenges for an kind of golfer. The Golfnow price, which includes cart and green fees, can't be beat.
Excellent condition. KILLER rough!
Very nice course in excellent condition. Perhaps due to the recent rain, but the rough was US Open style & extremely challenging for a non-PGA event!
This course is ver good
Hilly. Greens are always in higher level . A lot bunkers surround the greens. It is good to play this course.
More Par 3 s than normal courses. There 6 of them.
Over Priced
Honestly, this course is over priced. $70 green fees, $30 per person to rent cart (cart was not included with golfnow rate), and no push carts available (some long holes/hilly) so don't recommend walking.
Walk in rate and golf now rate are the exact same price, no bargain here. No replays as well unless you want to spend another $100...
Go play Neshanic instead...extremely disappointed with their services
Great Layout, well maintained.
Good course, challenging layout.
The greens need a little work.
Expensive; Going Downhill
A classic example of a nice layout starved for money. Inadequate staff and resources for a course charging $100 plus (with cart).
Greens were aerated last week so it was tough to putt. Severe elevation changes make walking difficult. There are much better values and much better service at other courses.
Nice layout that required alot of different shots
Nice course with a very attentive staff. The course was in good condition for early spring and the pace of play was quick. would certainly play again
Not a bad course
Requires accuracy on the course and the greens are small. The driving range was average at best. The course is very pretty. $80 for a tee time in Jan seemed a bit much but this was one of the few open courses this time of yr.
Interesting layout, with hills and curves, cultiminating to true greens
Had a reasonable deal on golfnow, but the quote didnt include the cart based on the confirmation. Dont all golfnow bookings include the cart? If not, it needs to be stated up front.
Course had excellent practice area, unique and reasonably challenging layout. Lots of Hills and curves and excellent true greens (I think they rolled them in the am). Playing the course the first time was challenging in judging a few dog legs, but still worthy.
Layout great...value not so much
Course was pricey for December conditions $80 to ride in the afternoon and it was cart path only
Recently aerated greens and fairways.
Lots of ball marks....members must not feel the need to repair.
Lots of trees down due to the recent hurricane, but no impact to our round
Par 3's are long but fair.
Loved the layout....each hole different,,,some winding, some hilly, some treelined, some open, some water
Would like to play again for 1/2 this price in the summer
Well maintained for this late in the season
Course was packed with par 3's and 5's and I suspect that during the peak season it is very likely much more of a challenge with the pitch and slope of the greens. Overall it was a good experience for a first timer to the course. You'll have to play placement tee shots on many of the par 4's and 5's to allow for better approaches to the greens. I was fortunate to have joined with a scratch golfer who knew the course intimately and helped guide me around. This is a course to which I will definitely return in season.
Course is in great condition
I was a member for five years and let it lapse. I am going to rejoin next year under one of their programs because it is such a good course and a solid value.
Great staff, nice course, challenging rough - a very nice day.
Hard to have a bad round on a 72 degree October day. The staff was attentive and the beverage cart came around several times during the round. For those who walk the course and are not familiar, a sign after #3 pointing to #4 (up the hill) would be helpful. A nice course with beautiful views and nice challenges. Glad that we were allowed to walk the course and not required to take the golf cart. Golf should be exercise too!
Great shape and layout, not long but the rough provides the challenge.
The course was in great shape, staff was friendly and helpful. The 19th hole offers fantastic food and choice of inside or outdoor dining.
