About
Vernon View Golf Course (formerly known as Hiawatha Golf Course) is a public, 18-hole course located in Mount Vernon. The course is set amongst the rolling hills of Knox County, surrounded by acres of lush countryside. Like many other courses in central Ohio, this course was designed by local architect Jack Kidwell although it has undergone several changes in its design since opening in 1962. Creeks meander through the tall stands of trees that have matured nicely since their original planting during the construction of the golf course. The landscape is also dotted with several lakes, which come into play on a number of holes. There is also the occasional bunker to watch out for. Vernon View Golf Course has been owned and operated by the same family since it opened, providing a warm and friendly atmosphere that is perfect for outings and tournaments.

Hidden gem
New owners working hard on improvements. If you hate the sand, enjoy the newly seeded bunkers. All of them! Cart paths need work and also the parking areas next to tee boxes is rutted and missing grass! Greens, fairways, and tee boxes are all in great shape. The course grass makes for great framework on many holes. Elevation changes up and down make for some challenging shots. For under $50 for twosome on GolfNow, I would say this is one of the best values in golf! Go play it. You will not be disappointed! Highly recommend.
1st time to play this course in 50 years..!!!
Brought back great memories from my Junior golf days of playing the course..!!!
Vernon View
Much improved since I played there a number of years ago. Greens and fairways were nice. I would recommend playing there.
US OPEN ROUGH
Vernon view has an overall competitive layout for the price range. The conditions are underwhelming. The greens are in good shape and roll mostly true, but are very slow for the amount of slope. My biggest grievance was that the rough was nearly 8 inches in areas just off the green. Pace of play was very slow and did not seem to be enforced. They need to pair groupings better instead of a singles being directly behind a 3some?
Pleasantly surprised
I hadn't played this course in almost 20 years and was pleasantly surprised by the condition of the course. The fairways were well mown and the rough was very manageable. It wasn't so long that it was difficult to find my ball. Wha really surprised me was the speed of the greens which was very fast for a public golf course. I've always preferred fast greens, but it took me a while to adjust to them because I didn't remember them being that fast. They have also removed a number of trees that has made the course much more playable. When I had played there in the past, there were three holes where trees made the course gimmicky. Those are gone now and the course is much better for it. The addition of more forward tees is also a plus since I don't hit the ball nearly as far as I used to. I don't think I could play this course from the white tees anymore. The people who work at he course have always been friendly and I'm glad to see that has continued under the new management.
Love this course
