Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Ohio
I play this course as often as I can. This track is excellent! No houses near the course and very peaceful. Course is challenging but fun to play.
The course is always wet, but also very green because it was cut out of a forest. I tell everyone about the course and try to get everyone to play.
Best public course in Columbus
Winding Hollow is an outstanding course. The grounds crew keeps it in excellent shape. The greens are some of the fastest and most challenging I have ever played on. Every hole is unique and adds something to the course. I played on Sunday afternoon w/ cart for $32.00. Phenomenal value for the money. I would HIGHLY recommend this course to anyone.
A must play in central Ohio. A wet blustery fall day but still a very enjoyable round. Manicured beautifully. Greens were fast and true.Go play this couse!!!!
The course layout is visually exciting
We play the course anytime we can find one of their specials.
It is designed for better players but all levels can have fun, move up! I have played courses all over the eastern US and this one holds it's own.
Sad, Sad Rumor
Finally was able to get back out to Winding Hollow for the first time in 2009. I was immediately upset with myself for allowing that amount of time to go by without playing here. Absolutely immaculate conditions. Other than Longaberger, I haven't played a public track in such great shape in years. It's hard to believe that this isn't ranked by Golf Mag or Golf Digest, as it's every bit as nice as some of the courses on that list.
As we finished our round, we were talking with the attendant as he was wiping our clubs down. He essentially told us that if we wanted to play here again, to do so in the next 4-5 weeks, because it appears this season may be Winding Hollow's last. I'd heard rumors that this course just cannot turn a profit, and it sounds like Wexner is planning to turn it into an industrial park. That would be an abject atrocity. I'm already planning to go back on Sunday and hope to get in another 2-3 rounds this season just in case the rumors hold true. Extremely disappointing news for a beautiful course.
The tee boxes and fairways are in excellent condition. Probably one of the best groomed public course that you will find in Ohio. Definitely a must play.
Great layout and somewhat challenging. Had a great time and will definitely play here again.
I really recommend this course. I have always considered Winding Hollow top 5 best courses in Central Ohio, however this course was in much better shape last year compared to this year. I noticed the prices have gone up yet the conditions are worse.
Must play in Columbus
On of the best courses in the Columbus area that is not private. It is in very good shape and challenging. However, after a rain it stays soft making it longer and harder. Overall a very good value and once you play it you'll want to pay It again and again .....
Nice course, was very wet, cart path only. I thought everything was priced way to high. A beer was $3. The course is not worth $60 to play, I only played because I got a deal on golfnow.
A must play
This was my first time playin winding hollow. If you're going to play golf in the Columbus area this course is a must.
Beautiful layout - all nature and trees. The back was especially scenic. The staff was very friendly. There was lots of ground under repair markings on the fairways and rough which we assume was due to the extreme weather conditions this year. Expected the greens to be a bit faster but they seemed to be ok. Will return but will look for a discounted rate. The bratwurst were delicious. Would recommend using Styrofoam drink cups for keeping drinks cooler. The drink cart attendant was very nice.
A Pleasant Surprise
I belong to a private club but enjoying playing other courses. For whatever reason, I had never ended up at Winding Hollow before now. In researching the course I learned of its history, it's problems and its comeback. I looked forward to playing it and I was not let down - it's a wonderful course. The tract of land upon which this course is laid out is spectacular. Tree lined fairways, challenging but fair holes, well maintained fairways, fast and true greens and a reasonable price all add up to a great golf experience. I played the blue tees. Getting off the tee is a premium as is approach shots to the green. The only real complaint I had was outside the course's control - mother nature had dumped a lot of rain on it so both fairways and greens played much longer. From a course grooming perspective, some of the tee boxes are in need of a lot of care and greenside bunkers in particular need repairing. Also, golfers need to be reminded of common sense courtesies - repairing fairway and green divots being at the top of the list. Our foursome had a great time and I certainly will be back.
Very nice course
This is only the second time I've played this course. The course was in very good shape the fairways were very nice. The rough was tough but manageable. The greens were not as fast as expected, but we're in good shape. When we played on June 18 it had not rained for several days before we play. The course was somewhat soggy there were several soft spots; it appears that the course maybe is overwatered
Great Layout with Excellent Greens
Winding Hollow has a challenging layout with a great deal of variety. The greens were excellent and rolled very true. The bunkers were in good shape and the overall conditions were good. There were some areas of the course, mostly in the rough, that have seen significant damage and should be addressed by the ground crew.
Winding Hollow is BACK !
This course is a class act and clearly back in Country Club condition. The greens, fairways and rough are all in excellent condition. It's a tough track and you'll normally need 4.5 hours to finish, but it's worth the time to enjoy. No houses, just beautiful woodlands.
I played Winding Hallow on a beautiful day and the course could not have been in better shape. Usually WH retains water and can have many soggy areas to navigate, however with the spring we have had in Ohio, conditions are perfect for keeping the course in grape shape! Will definitely be back to see if this holds up.
Excellent All Round….
The course was in fantastic shape (apart from drainage work on one of the holes but it didn't spoil the experience at all). Pristine fairways, greens, tee boxes and bunkers. The layout is fabulous, staff really friendly, clubhouse and facilities excellent. Along with a nice efficient pace of play this is one of the nicest courses I've played in the States.
