About
Sugar Isle Golf Course was designed by Jack Kidwell, a familiar name among southern Ohio golf courses. Water is a prominent feature of the course, Kidwell incorporated it on more than half of the holes. Some 20 white sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout the layout, providing a scenic contrast to the water and lush greens. For an added challenge, many of the fairways are lined with mature trees although there is some room for error, which makes them more accessible. It is a course that will make you think but it is not too intimidating for beginners. The versatility makes it popular for outings and tournaments. Sugar Isle has even hosted the area's high school programs for more than 30 years. In addition to the golf course, there is also a driving range and large putting green.

Very slow pace
Took about 3 1/2 hours to play 9 holes. Groups weren’t playing to pace and no ranger to push them thru. Paid for 18 played 9 due to time.
Course conditions are improving
We have been playing this course about every other week since early spring. The tee boxes, fairways and greens have improved all year. Everything is green and looking good especially for mid August. It appears the course is getting a good amount of play. I hope they are generating enough money to invest into cleaning up the stagnant ponds and to do a little landscape work in the future. Overall we are very pleased with the course and the friendly staff! Go out and support this course.
Very slow pace of play
Not sure what the deal here is, but the last 5 or 6 times I've played this course, the pace of play is horrendous. Worst in the area for sure. Which is a real shame because the course itself is setup very nice and well maintained. As long as you don't mind sitting for 10 to 15 minutes after every hole to tee off, you'll enjoy this course.
Great improvements
I hadn’t played here since the late ‘90s. The improvements they’ve made are amazing. The only negative is the tree overhanging the 9th tee box - I would prefer the one large limb be removed. The tunnel to the other side of the road is still fun!
I believe they are really trying to improve the course
Staff has always been friendly. The course conditions continue to improve. Greens roll true but are generally slow. I’d like to see the greens have a little more speed ! Hopefully this course will eventually look like the pics on Golf Now. I would recommend you give this course a try.
Fun Day
The greens ran a little bit slower than my home course but they ran true and and in great condition. Fairways were wide with a few that were tree lined and some ponds. Layout was very playable out in the country. A nice and interesting course to play. Very friendly staff!
Course continues to slowly get better
Greens were in good shape and rolled fairly good. This course continues to slowly get better. Cart paths and landscape have a long way to go but the fairways and greens are improving. I’ve been playing this course since the mid 80’s. I look forward to this place getting in better shape.
Great Course
Sugar Isle is a great course. This was my second time playing there and it was awesome both time. Staff was friendly and the course has a great layout for any level of golfer. If there was one thing that could be improved, it would be to get new carts...BUT there is a reason they don't have new carts and you'll see why that is when you go from the 14th to 15th hole. It's a good story and a conversation piece, trust me. You won't regret playing here. It is one of my new favorite courses!!
