Worth the drive and money
Challenging course from any set of tees. Well-kept but the rough was a little high so we paid a price for being in it.
Pro shop guy was super gracious and super helpful.....We will be back on our next trip north from WV.
Great value for the money
Was able to play via GolfNow so realized an exceptional deal. Course was a little soggy due to heavy rains previous three days. Greens held well but fairways were tricky in spots.
great
Great course that has a lot of character.
my favorite course, close to home
not too challenging if you can just keep it in the middle. tees for every level (more fun if you play the appropriate ones)
Great golf experience!
I try to play here at least once a year. Normally play in the summer. I was pleasantly surprised to see the condition of the course in November. Kudos to the staff! I totally recommend this course to anyone out there reading this.
Nice views
Very nice course with beautiful views. Greens were in great condition and rolled perfectly. I would recommend this course to everyone as some of the holes were short with some pretty wide fairways but then you had some very challenging holes mixed in.
Best Course in Tuscarawas
Best Course in Tuscarawas County - Private or Public.
Challenging Target golf in spots. Plenty of tees to pick the correct length for your game.
Great layout.
Oak Shadows is a really fun course to play and is also very challenging . Course is always in good condition . It is a very remote golf course nestled in the middle of nowhere , pace of play was the only concern but got thru at the turn.
One of the Best in Ohio
For anyone who has never played at Oak Shadows, you're missing one of the finest courses in the Great State of Ohio. Although the clubhouse is modest and the food average you don't go to a great golf course to eat, you go to play.
The course is always in outstanding condition and the layout is a true test of your game. The course is nestled in a deep valley just outside of New Philadelphia OH and the view on and around the course is magnificent. I've lived in the Akron area all of my life and I've played just about every course within 80 miles of Akron. Oak Shadows is by far my favorite public course in the area. I real "must play" golf course.
An Oak of a Gem - Hiding in the Shadows
This course reminds me of the Quarry in many ways, with lots of elevation change, good greens with a mix of depth front to back as well as side to side, along with varying degrees of slope, lots of natural areas that you will have to avoid off the tee, a few hidden ponds, and a few blind shot holes, from the tee box. The course has always been in very good shape, if I had to find a few flaws, I would say that some of the tee boxes are a little tattered, but they are level and adequately grassed, so they really should not be considered as anything to affect play. I also note that the in-cart pin position map looks like an original draft of something that the King of Scotland may have had drafted up for his own personal use, when the game first was invented. But I kind of like that - it gives you just enough of an idea to know where to hit and indicates position by either depth or horizontal, based on green orientation to fairway. The course yardage is adequately marked, with the traditional marker posts, and with the elevation and winds that often sweep thru the area, you always have to do some mental yardage calculating to add to the challenge. The course is serene, with very little exterior road noise and no housing development interference. You often only hear the sound of birds chirping, as well as the occasional birdie that visits the green. :) The course is also golfer friendly, with all carts having windshields and rain covers with gas powered engines to handle the elevation climbs required. Cart paths often wind to and fro, thru both sides of the fairways, allowing for ease of play under cart path only or 90 degree rule conditions, which helps the pace of play. If you come from the North, take the 212 exit off of I-77 at Bolivar to be sure to enjoy the beautiful scenic drive into New Philly via route 800.
New Phila Gem
Heavy rain early summer 2015 - even so, the course drained well enough to allow carts anywhere, low cuts of fairway and rough. Greens ran very well. Maintenance crews did a great job keeping up with the rain.
Oak Shadows
Got a Hot Deal for $28. Can't beat that. I've always liked this course but rarely play it. Full price is a little steep for the area. Course is nice and fairly well maintained. There are a few areas of ground under repair, 7th green. Greens overall are in great shape with hardly any ball marks. Tee boxes are nice. Clubhouse is just the same ole clubhouse, nothing special. Craig the club pro is a nice guy. Driving range is downhill, so yardages are difficult to judge.
Really Nice Place!
If you want to play where you have to use all the clubs in your bag...This Is It. Beautiful scenery here and from tee to green really in wonderful shape.
Great time at Oak Shadows.
Had a great time. Course is difficult on certain holes. Especially challenging in the wind. Make sure to play from correct tee. Staff was very friendly. Definitely will return.
Oak Shadows, a hidden gem
I love the elevation changes and the challenges that unfold from the tips. Beautiful views and layout. Extremely friendly staff!
The greens are patheticly dead.
This used to be one of my favorite courses in the area; however, the conditions of the course are currently unacceptable. The greens are pathetic. Even the putting green right beside the club house has giant black, dead spots. There's a posting in the clubhouse for a maintenance position. Clearly, the current maintenance crew isn't doing their job. Also, I teed off with one other guy and after the 15th hole 4+ hours later we left the course. A ranger to keep track of pace of play would be nice. it was like a senior citizen reunion in front of us, and they never even considered to let us play through.
A few greens are sparse of grass, but, an overall excellent course
Several back nine greens have bare spots (weather related), but still putted true. Extremely nice manicured fairways as well. A ranger would be nice, to keep people in carts from driving right up to the edge of the green. On #13, saw several groups ignore the "stay on cart path" signage.
Craig has done an excellent job in running this course. We will be back.
This is a great place to play and the course will test your skills.
Even after heavy rains for days the course was in great shape and playable. Oak Shadows has a variety of holes that will challenge you the entire round.
Has fast, undulating greens which will challenge the best of putters.
This is by far my favorite course in Dover/New Philadelphia area. A great value at posted price but even better using Golf Now. Greens were running around 11 possibly 12. Course has huge greens which offers many difficult pin placements. One of those courses where you'll greatly improve if you play a replay to know where to leave approach shots for easier putts. Plenty of water, trees and sand to challenge the rest of your game. Will make this course part of every golf trip in Amish country.
