Terrible upkeep
They have let this place go! Fairways had more dirt spots than grass. Greens were torn up too
Terrible shape and Terrible etiquette
The fairways if you want to call them that are long grass in the places with grass or they are dirt, no in between. Tee boxes were all chewed up and rock hard. If I had to guess I would say the course hasn't seen water since the last rain. I chose a tee time based on seeing a lot of available times around it meaning it should be pretty open as a single I was planning a quick round. Drive up to the starter and told I am behind the 2some on the box who was waiting for a senior group of 4 who had a walker. I don't know the dynamics but I spent 4.5 hours behind both of them without any play thrus offered and was waiting every box. The 3some behind me even thought it was ridiculous. Never seen a course in this bad of shape this year. Had to land short every hole and pray it bounced straight and not some crazy sideways hop of the potholes which I had numerous times. Guess there's a reason why that was one of the few courses with a Fri morning tee time. Will not return unless I hear of considerable progress on the course.
Where is the cash going?
Course only takes cash and wonder where it is going from a course improvement perspective.
3rd Nine black sheep
I’ve played Loyal Oak before and always found the course nicely maintained and full of character. Showed up and due to an outing, we played the third nine. Of the three nines, it’s extremely short and the layout is not great. Hole 5, or what they call hole 23 is a 110 yd par 3 with a monster tree that stands at least 80 ft tall and is wider than a house sits literally 20 yards front of the green which gives no reasonable shot. Reminiscent of a scene out of Caddy Shack 2, they mine as well put a giant windmill in front of the green. The second par 3 is of similar set up but the tree block the shot near the tees. Great course but avoid 3rd nine.
Well Maintained and Great Pace
After suffering through two 4.5-5 hour outings recently at other courses, it was a pleasure getting back to a 3 hour round at Loyal Oak. This course is one of the best maintained courses in the Cleveland/Akron Area. Super lush grounds with healthy greens, tee boxes and well manicured. The course isn't super long but long enough to let a big hitter swing. Overall, another great experience at this hidden gem in Norton.
