This course is really coming around
There is a lot of work going on in the clubhouse and on the course it is all really coming around. The staff is very friendly, especially to veterans look forward to playing when everything is finished.
Slow Play
The General Manager is making inroads in making the course better, however, there is a lot to do. My round was a classic slow play by groups of older players taking multiple shots both in the fairways and on the greens. A round should not take four to five hours. It appears these groups believe they own the course, which needs to change.
The greens need some love.
Place of play was great. The greens were a little rough. Everything else was nice.
The locals that live on the course were extremely rude and entitled, The course allowed a group of 6 in front of us that was slowed even more by a slow group of four ahead of them.
Skip Surrey Hills
Greens were horrible. Not even aerated. Tee boxes were garbage. Had to skip hole 9 because of the 5 some of old farts taking their sweet time.
Layout was decent. Just not worth $45 plus GolfNow $7 booking fee.
Course is under construction, maybe
Its layout/design is actually pretty nice. But it lacks signage that helps get you from hole to hole. It’s placed in a subdivision which isn’t terrible. But leaving some holes you have to enter the street for the neighborhood and in a few spots it wasn’t obvious which direction to turn. On top of that there was no mention when I began playing that the on the back nine holes 11 through 17 were under construction. Imagine my surprise to not be able to find the greens because they were missing flags and most had a spray painted white circle with the cup (but not marked in any other way). I hope they fix all that. It could definitely be a beautiful course.
this course is very boring it seemed like it was the same layout everyother whole. a lot of straight par 4s in this course.
The grees need work
The greens have not been waters so they were very hard, add the weeds in the growing in the greens made it difficult to putt.
Course On The Way Upward
Great day for golf. Course was busy, and pace of play was very slow. Golf Superintendent continues to make improvements.
Golf Course In Progress
Surrey Hills is an old golf course needing financial resources to improve it. The grounds superintendent is excellent but she is limited by the lack of financial resources. The clubhouse is old, and also needs a lot of work. While I recommend the course, I would like to see improvements to it
So Much Better!
The course conditions have significantly improved this year! The greens were really bad 2 years ago, showed improvement last year, and now roll smooth, fully healthy, and not so "spongy". The fairways are also so much better! They're mostly consistent grass now without dirt spots, hard pan, overgrown/poorly mowed, etc. Just so much better. Tee boxes could improve a bit more but those are better than last year. Kudos to management for making this fun layout a fun course to play again.
Course is improving
The course is improving every round I play. The greens are in good playing condition. The tee boxes are also In good shape. Front 9 is pretty challenging but the back 9 gives you a chance to redeem yourself. I find this course at the price a paid a great value.
Much Better!
Surry has experienced its ups & downs the last couple of years. It is so much better now... We have played a few times at Surrey as we live in the neighborhood there (but not members because they are not offering it right now). The greens are so much better than in the past, and the fairways are becoming really nice as well. We love this course; it is challenging and actually quite fun and frustrating all at the same time. Darn that hole #3!! One day we shall master it! :). Have fun playing this course...you will enjoy it.
Only issue we’re the greens
I really liked the layout of the course. That being said, it appeared the back nine greens had been aerated fairly recently because there was still sand and obvious holes where the grass was filling back in. The front nine greens were bumpy due to the mowing, granted we have recently had several days of rain. I’m guessing they got overgrown and were mowed while they were still too wet, they were yellowed from cutting more than ⅓ the height. This is a pretty educated guess when you factor in that I’ve been in turf and ornamentals for almost twenty years and know the signs of bad mowing practices, Overall, I’d like to play the course again with the greens in proper order. Good layout with enough bunkers and water to keep it interesting and few enough that I didn’t lose a box of balls.
