Eagle Creek Golf Course

About
Situated between Clackamas and Estacada, Eagle Creek Golf Club offers one of the best values in the area. Its location also provides scenic views across the swale of the old Oregon Trail with Mt. Hood as a backdrop on many of the holes. The course was carefully carved from mature forests of fir, oak, and cedar trees. The beautiful natural landscape remained as untouched as possible, which is why you'll most likely catch a glimpse of the abundant wildlife that inhabits the golf course. At 6,263 yards from the back tees, the course plays fairly short but there are still plenty of challenges in store. Water hazards come into play frequently and the tall trees lining the fairways demand accuracy. One of the toughest holes on the course is Eagle Creek Golf Club's par-4 ninth, which features two parallel streams passing through the fairway.

unique
one of the strangest courses I have ever played. You start the front nine, in basically a field, then head into the woods for a bunch of dog legs, tight tee shots and placement holes on the back. Greens are extremely slow, but it is a good value and unique golfing experience for the money
Quirky, tight , long and fun
Before we booked our round at Eagle Creek, we read many different and varied reviews of the golf course. Going back a few years most, if not all, of the reviews were poor. More recently the reviews were better.
We had no expectations and having booked our round as a Golf Now hot deal, not a lot of financial investment was required.
Our GPS easily guided us to the course, however, we did spot the large golf ball sitting on a light post sized TEE topped with an arrow as the only visual direction to the course from the main highway outside Estacada.
We had beautiful spring Oregon weather as we arrived. Near the clubhouse in one of the many wetlands we sat and watched a family of nutria. This was to be the start of a day of seeing many different animals and birds.
The course allowed us to tee off early and away we went.
The first hole is a fairly benign 3 par. But once you get past that some very long( from the back tee's) and challenging 4 pars await you.
From the back the 5th hole is a long , way long. 600 plus 5 par. With a water carry off the tee that required perfection.
The back nine is very very tight with some quirlky doglegs but very beautiful with the trees and such. Course knowledge is huge here and I would assume the average player will slash 8 to 12 strokes off their game the second time around with better club selection and more caution. That's all I am saying.
The greens were slow as molasses but in great condition and with some promised mowing today should be rolling better.
Does the course require some more maintenance and improvement? Yes. Are the tee boxes rough? Yes. DO the fairways require some attention? Yes . Is it vastly better than many of the reviews we read? YES !
But this is not Waverly , Pumpkin, or Salishan. Why would anyone expect that?
In my opinion if you can't play well here, an average golfer is not going to fair much better at those or any other courses.
We had a nice time and enjoyed ourselves. Some of the unique qualities of the course we enjoyed. We will return and would recommend this course to our friends. We salute the new owners.
Slow play.
Great course. Technical. Not for your lazy day of golf.
Great location, but could use some TLC
Fairways could use some attention. Many locations thoughout course are like playing through pasture land.
nice value great course for beginning golfers
great course for new golfers friendly staff great value for 7 dollars it costs almost that much for a bucket of balls at some driving ranges
Nice location, very quiet and bucolic, course was under repair when we played
Beautiful locale but front nine was under repair and back nine was due next...ie. a bit rough. pace of play was GLACIAL on the day we played. Too many twosomes I guess. Fortunately the weather was perfect.
yeah ok for the money
trim the fairway and built some real tee boxes!bye bye bye bye bye bye
course holds alot of water
good course for price, wet even in some fairways. pace of play was excellent
Ok, they're logging right now...BUT!!
This course has undergone TREMENDOUS transformation over the last couple of years. The back 9 used to be nearly unplayable, but now it is BEAUTIFUL with stunning views into a gorge overlooking a river. Ok, ok - they're logging right now. Looks pretty messed up and some people are MAD because the TREES are coming down, but I say YAHOO! It opens up the view and will allow for a lot more sun on the back 9. That translates to better fairways, more compact greens and an overall better golf experience. The PRICE CANNOT BE BEAT. They have twilight for $7 for 9 holes!! Yes, you read it right...SEVEN dollars. Even their regular rates are super-cheap for the value. LOVE this hidden gem!
THE COURSE HAS SOME HOLES THAT DO CHALLENGE
Although the fairways are not real manicured, the greens were in pretty good shape and consistent. A few holes are wide open and there are a few holes that need a pinpoint drive or a long carry so you do not get into trouble. For a course off the beaten path, it is a good value and very relaxing with the streams, protected areas, and wildlife that abound. I would say its primarily for mid to high handicappers, offering them a good test.
Excellent Value
Managed to purchase a round of golf for $16 including a cart through golfnow. Great Deal!!
Nice Country Style Course
The wide open front nine provides some error of the tee box. The back nine is tree lined and much tighter. The over all course was still in pretty good shape despite the first day of rain.
Great Bargain
The course is further out of Portland than I expected and I arrived late for my tee time. The staff was super firendly and accomodated getting me out when I was ready. The course has wide variety of mature trees and water hazards making for interesting play. 90 degree doglegs and trees in the drive path make this much more fun than a " grip-it-and-rip-it" driver/7 iron/ putter course. The greens had been recently sanded but were in outstanding condition. No "defined" cart path made me have to hunt for the next tee box. Overall a great bargain on sparsely populated course.
this course is great
What makes this course difficult is you have to hit the ball accurate. It is almost target golf.
Great course for the inexpensive fees
This course offfers a wonderful experience with a wide array of easy to challenging holes. It is a very easy course to walk. They have been doing a lot of work on the course over the last 3 years and the greens are excellent year around. We have played this course in the middle of winter and the greens are the best in the area even then. The only drawback was they had was no bathrooms on the course, just at the clubhouse, but they have remedied that situation and there are now 2 placed strategically on the course and they are kept very clean. Hole 5 is especially challenging. Only very long hitters can hope to reach the fairway across the pond. Holes 12 and 13 offer some challenges with tight fairways and trees down both sides. It is a very easy course to walk and the wildlife is abundant.
Won't happen again.
If you like a good description of pasture golf, this is it. It was hacked out of farmland (or so it appears) and is nothing better than that. The cost is the most attractive aspect of this course.
Nice course, good pace of play, GREAT value!
Nice course, good pace of play, GREAT value!
Why is my review too short? What else do you want me to say? There is beauty in brevity.
