McNary Golf Club
About
McNary Golf Club is located on the site that once was the homestead of Charles McNary (1874-1944), prominent Oregon Congressman, lawyer, and vice-presidential running mate of Wendell Willkie. Since he was an ardent golfer, it is appropriate that this course was named in his honor at its opening in 1962. The course was developed by Jim Sill who wanted to build an enjoyable course for the average golfer. Initially, the McNary home was used as the clubhouse. Today, modern clubhouse facilities, including the well known McNary Restaurant & Lounge, overlook the course. All the necessary amenities are available. The golf course features lush fairways, spacious greens, and hazards that provide a challenge for all golfers. Claggett Creek comes into play on holes 1, 9, 10, and 18. The challenge and beauty of the course has also been augmented with several small lakes with fountains.

Check in guy super friendly. Very nice carts with modern tech. Greens were excellent. Fairways very nice. Layout a bit tight with houses but overall fun and challenging. Would definitely recommend to others to play here.
GOOD COURSE - A bit Pricey
This is a good course and was in great condition. The greens held without being too firm or too soft. The weather was great. I like playing this course, but usually only when I find the Hot Deal because I don't think it is worth the regular rate.
Course impressions
Course is well maintained and watered. Challenging with mature trees in abundance rewarding good shots and penalizing poor ones. It seemed like every green was domed with undulating slopes making your putt locations critical. Located in a lovely older neighborhood was nice. Intending to return in a few weeks when leaves begin to change colors.
fun neighborhood golf course. Got paired with a really nice guy and we had a great time out there! excited to play it again and beat my score.
Why do I do this?
Golfnow/Teeoff is terrible. As a long time paying and highly using member years ago (before Comcast) Golfnow has gotten terrible. As for McNary, Larry is great in the clubhouse however he feels Golfnow users are the worst, just like every other course. They all hate Golfnow. We had an 1120am tee time and were informed there were no golf carts available (we prepaid on Teeoff). We did eventually get carts and tee'd off at 12:15pm. Very frustrating to the point that we won't be returning anytime soon.
Overall a Great Golf Experience
The staff were fantastic, the course was in excellent shape (especially for mid-summer), and the restaurant & pro shop were very good. The only nit-picks I have are:
1. We felt pushed too quickly by club members. Four people in four separate custom carts that clearly knew the course better than us first-time visitors were cranking up the pace a bit too fast. Letting them play through only brought two more players in two carts. Everyone seemed to be in quite a hurry, and we were playing at a very standard pace. I expect to play 18 holes in about four hours, but we finished in about 3:25. It was too frantic.
2. The sprinklers came on in the middle of one of our Par 3 holes, so that was an unfortunate experience. Cold and powerful sprinklers is a mood killer. We took the Happy Gilmore approach and referred to it as the "Clown Hole."
Other than that, we really enjoyed the course and lunch afterwards, and since we're locals we definitely plan to return and give it another try.
Can't always pick who you play with
I came out as a single. I was paired up with a guy named Roger. This guy was a real piece of work. On the First Tee Box he leaves a club. They remember she left it there three holes later. Then he has to backtrack all the way to the first t-box to get his Club. When I'm already on the third green. Waiting for him to catch up. Then all day he drags his feet on every hole. I am a ready golfer and played a fast pace. This guy who was obviously in no hurry and doing everything you could to slow things down. He would pace off his putts every hole. Like it was going to help him make his putts. Let me tell you it didn't help him make his putts. And it was one sarcastic remark after another all day long. I couldn't wait to finish by the time I got to the 18th hole. By the time we finish I just walked off and didn't even say anything to him. I enjoyed the golf but the camaraderie with the person I hooked up with, sucked.
No Pace of Play Management
10:00 tee time, four groups backed up at the turn and rising temps were enough to send all three people in my group to the car. Really liked the greens and course was in pretty good shape otherwise. On course beverage service made multiple rounds which is nice to see.
Looking forward to playing again!
Beautiful course and well maintained.
The staff was very helpful in describing the course and giving us helpful hints as we ventured out to play for the first time.
Good track
Not super walker friendly, but the course is well maintained and fun. Greens run true and the staff are great!!!!
Enjoyable place to play.
It's about an hour drive from my home but it was worth the drive because of the great rate that included a new model riding cart with a helpful GPS.
The course from tee to green was in excellent condition.
We arrived early and had lunch in the upscale restaurant in the clubhouse.
A good/hot deal on Golf Now.
