About
Surrounded by the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Hills Golf Course (formerly Fernwood Resort & Country Club) was carefully carved from wooded hillsides. Condos and other residences were later built near the golf course and although they are situated quite close, the round is still enjoyable. The layout is tight with narrow fairways that are lined with trees. The front nine is easier than the back where more dramatic elevation changes come into play. Many of the greens have elevations of over 50 feet, making approach shots a formidable test. There are also a number of tricky doglegs that are practically 90 degree turns. The layout rewards straight, accurate drives and the greens putt fast and true. There are a number of challenging holes, especially the 10th and 14th, but overall Pocono Hills Golf Course is approachable enough for all skill levels.

Golfer Reviews
Good value, great greens
Overall a short but very enjoyable course Shot placement is key with more than a few blind shots throughout the 18 holes. Most noteworthy are the greens which were in absolutely beautiful condition despite the fact that few if any people seem to bother to fix ball marks. No beverage cart today which was a first.
Love the course despite the power lines and vacant condos that surround many of the holes. Played their 2-3x this season and will be back again 2/3x next season.
Good little course
This course is always well maintained and in great condition tee to green. Although it’s short, it’s a great course for the average golfer to play.
We play this course more than any. Over the last few years many improvements have been made. Great job. However the rate of improvement has stalled. While the front nine are well maintained, they have not kept pace with the back nine. There are a few areas that were bunkers that have just been left alone, and the sand in the bunkers is not replenished as it is on the front.
Better than i thought it would be
We have played here several times this year and since it it late in the season, I half expected the course to be somewhat chewed up... on the contrary, it is in really good shape..
As usual, the staff is very friendly and helpful.
The pace of play was very good and we enjoyed it very much.
This is a relatively tough mountain course with a lot of narrow fairway -- blind hole challenges that can rattle your nerves but we love it.
I highly recommend it!
This course has many blind spots
The first three holes are deceiving. Course is very hilly with hardly any flat lies
Not for the novice or high handicap player.
Sand traps are NOT maintained.
Green conditions are good.
Not walkable.
Price from Golf Now is good value.
Excellent greens
The greens are in terrific shape. As well as the fairways and entire course. The course can play tight but because of how well maintained the rough and the fringe is, you can easily find you golf ball. Super value for the cost!
Narrow, But Fair
Narrow fairways with many blind tee shots. It’s a course where the more you play it, the better you’ll play it.
Don't let the front 9 fool you
Checked the scorecard before I played wondering why it was slope rated higher than average. Front 9 was straightforward and average difficulty. Things get more serious on the back.
Multiple elevated/slanted greens, uphill approach and tee shots, blind shots, very narrow fairways and blocked doglegs. Par 3s are longer than average as well. Definitely felt challenged but enjoyed the round. The course was in nice shape. Greens were in great shape and rolled true.
Bring your precision and iron game if you're a long hitter. Well worth a round for the rates.
Nice course for the money
The course course is kept in very nice condition. The greens and tee boxes were in good shape. The fairways were nice and green throughout. All that is left is for you to hit the ball straight because the fairways are narrow
Horrible pace of play
I understand the need to recoup last year’s costs due to covid. But if you’re going to let everyone go out whenever they want, with no one to monitor tee times, you won’t have any golfers! Yes, the conditions and rates are great. However, I was ready to walk off after 10. I was waiting 7-10 minutes per shot! 5 hour round (i played one ball and shot a 78 - this wasn’t a “poor golfer” issue. And why is the ranger driving around - when all he is doing is that - driving around?! This is not the first poor pace of play review on this course. It ruins the temp of the game and it is less than enjoyable. I hope things improve going forward.
