Pocono Hills Golf Course
About
Surrounded by the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Hills Golf Course (formerly Fernwood Resort & Country Club) was carefully carved from wooded hillsides. Condos and other residences were later built near the golf course and although they are situated quite close, the round is still enjoyable. The layout is tight with narrow fairways that are lined with trees. The front nine is easier than the back where more dramatic elevation changes come into play. Many of the greens have elevations of over 50 feet, making approach shots a formidable test. There are also a number of tricky doglegs that are practically 90 degree turns. The layout rewards straight, accurate drives and the greens putt fast and true. There are a number of challenging holes, especially the 10th and 14th, but overall Pocono Hills Golf Course is approachable enough for all skill levels.

Beautiful course with hilly fairways.
We really enjoyed this course. It was challenging and gave us a good workout. Staff was helpful.
Nice Course
Thought Fernwood was not as difficult as some mountain courses in Pa, Course was in great shape, staff helpful and friendly.Price was excellent through GolfNow. Bring some extra balls if your not hitting them straight.Would highly recommend this course
Nice course, especially considerate of women players.
The course has some challenging holes, but is not overly long. My wife enjoyed her round, partly because she played very well, but also because the women are given a break on the longer holes. The setting is beautiful and the course is pretty well maintained. We were disappointed that there was no putting green and I didn't see a driving range nearby. All in all, we had an enjoyable round.
Decent course
We played this course on an awesome hot deal. Some of the holes are a little tight and the par 3s are long. Conditioning was pretty good for the most part. A couple of VERY elevated greens make them difficult and the mountain effect really comes into play. One hole had an unfair pin placement, where the hole was on a slope that the ball would roll back from. All in all it's a course worth playing, especially if you can get a good deal.
Great course but not for occasional - vacationing golfers.
Beautiful layout with fair challenges for mid-to high handicappers. I would not recommend this course for beginners or vacationing families who just play because it's available - especially when they do not know how to treat the course. No one repairs ballmarks or worry about the pace of play. All in all, I loved holes 10 and 14 for the elevation changes.
Great value
We played this course after a big thunderstorm, so the course was slow overall. Nonetheless, the greens were relatively smooth, an the tee boxes and fairways were good. The bunkers could use some work and the layout on the back were tight off the tee but overall it was a good experience.
Great views and surroundings
Course is very tight and one fairway is in the middle of condos.
The pro shop was lightly stocked.
Overall the course is very scenic and fun to play I would definitely play there again.
course was in good shape
i booked afternoon tee times to not hold up anybody. i was taking my grandson to play and girl in pro shop was not allowing us to go 15min early because we got hot deal time and nobody was on the first 3 holes next time if i go and book early times and back down the course so be it tough luck!!!!! i would always let people go past but i will not at that place.
Greens in excellent shape
Carts were restricted to paths due amount of recent rainfall. several sand traps flooded
Value Priced
For a novice golfer, this course can be tight on alot of holes. The greens also can be a bit tricky with some severe slopes, (4 and 15) come to mind. People were fishing in the pond on 10 when I played, and they seem unconcerned about their safety. Like alot of budget golf courses, the bunkers recieve little maint. On course water was empty on a very hot and humid day.
Challenging for mid to higher handycapers.
The greens were a little slow, but in EXCELLANT condition. Fairways and first cut ruff maintained to encourage quicker play.
Sand traps could use a little TLC.
Depending on tee box location, some very challenging holes.
Overall a great value.
Odd feature
Nice course that was in good shape and didn't have many people on the course due to the heat. It did have one strange feature, on holes one and three and I believe one other hole there are power lines going over the fairway which I managed to hit with my second shot on #1. Just another hazard, otherwise nice course
Back 9 closed but no mention on GolfNow or course website and found out after an hour drive
Only played the front nine due the back being closed. I wish these courses would communicate with golfnow and let them know. Also how hard would it be for them to call all the bookings and give them a fair warning. The golfnow booking goes straight to there computer in the pro shop so what's so hard about taking my info and letting me know the back 9 is unplayable.
Course was in good condition a bit wet, doesn't seem to drain all that well. Greens and boxes were in great shape but bunkers need improvement. Fairways were fine and well maintained. Everything was cut and clean except for some goose droppings.
The course is very simple, very forgiving and a bit short. Mind you I only played the front but by the second loop we blew through it. Great course for a beginner. Good day of golf nonetheless.
Some of the toughest putting holes I have ever played on
After the flat first 3 holes, the course becomes very challenging as you climb up the mountain. Many of the greens have a slope that places a premium on the landing area. The greens protect the shortness of the course. A few holes have very elevated greens, especially love #10.
Challenging course, great value, very well maintained, friendly staff - I was almost ready to say "what's not to love" but my one negative is there the lack of a driving range or practice putting green. But, other than that - I really enjoy this course.
Fun to play
Course was in excellent condition except for sandtraps.
Fantastic, for the money.
This course is quite short even from the tips, but fun to play. It won't wow you...especially the front 9 which is quite cookie cutter and not varied at all.
If you can hit a 200 yard shot in the fairway on every hole, you have a chance to score really, really well. Plenty of <400 yard holes from the blues with inviting fairways. Definitely worth the price of a medium bucket at the range.
The course was in fantastic shape aside from the bunkers which probably all need to be redone...but the greens rolled true and were fantastic and the tee boxes were great. Overall, a great value for the golfer just learning.
Great bang for the buck.
This course is your regular mountain course. The length is around 6000 yards from the white tees but plays longer because lot of times your playing to evaluated greens. Some of the greens are tough to putt because of the slope to them. Some of your tee shots must be placed just perfect to keep ball in the fairway. I think even some pros would have a hard time hitting them. The course starts out easy with two short par fours and a short par three, all on level playing fairways, then the fun begins. Couple of the greens are just about impossible to two putt.
