About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2020.
Located just south of Allentown, Pa., Locust Valley Golf Course is less than hour from Philadelphia and the Poconos and only 15 minutes from the New Jersey border. The course is player friendly enough for high handicappers to approach with confidence but there are a few challenges in store as well. The 6,504-yard layout is a manageable length but there are still a few holes that will test your distance. The terrain is mostly flat though there are a few subtle contours that can be tricky. The fairways have a lot of variation with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are tighter and demand greater accuracy. You'll also have to watch out for the occasional water hazard. Locust Valley is not the most challenging golf course in the area, but it's one of the best values you'll find in town.

Excellent layout
Great challenge and layout. In great shape. New ownership has really done a great job on condition and pricing value!
Better than I expected
I was quite impressed by the condition the course was in. Nice finishing hole!
A great course
I had not played this course in over two years. I had heard about a number of positive changes and the tors were all true. I thoroughly enjoyed my round and I will return.
Challenging
Great course. Challenging. Lots of bunkers!!! :-( Definitely will be back!
nice layout
Even though there was no practice area, the course was in great shape and greens that rolled really well. I would highly recommend this course.
Never judge the book by the cover
Part of the biggest challenge of this course is getting off the road and into the pro shop and visa -versa.
Once resigned to just parking and walking a few hundred yards to the pro shop you do much better and safer.
Played here 4 years ago and sworn Never to return.
After much pressure from my peers I returned and glad I did.
It is a 40 minute ride from our home in NJ and after yesterday I think it will be on our list to play 2-4 times a month.
Course was in great shape, enough challenges (sand traps) getting to the greens and plenty once on the greens.
Nine and eighteen are my favorite holes and don't' forget to get a hot dog and beer at number six.
Good shape
Recommend this course. Sunday got around in 4:30 hrs
Solid Classic Course
Course is in great shape. Its primary defense are mature trees and small greens with some undulation. If you stray into trees or cross to adjacent fairways your score will balloon. Otherwise it can be scored on. Played 18 as a single on a Monday afternoon in 2:15, passed only 1 group. Give it a while if you see a cheap time, you can do worse.
Locust Valley
Front nine plays a little harder then the back nine and the greens are smaller then some. overall nice course
Slow Saturday
A beautiful day, the course was well groomed and the greens were slow. Not as slow as the pace of play though. Almost 6 hours to play a round on this not so long course. A weekday afternoon course.
good value
got a tee time with the hot deals for $15 which was a good value, not a great course but was is pretty good shape tee boxes are a little hairy but for $15 not expecting Augusta wouldn't pay $30 or $40 but nice change up from the regular courses we play...
Very nice surprise
Saw this course and the prior players ratings and gave it a try. Very nice course well kept and fast greens for April on a public course. Overall the course is decent. Reachable par 5s sand traps have high faces and the water really only comes into play on two holes. Some side hill lies are inevitable but nothing unfair. Nice staff and great beer prices for the round. No food to speak of save for a hot dog or snacks but I was there to play golf and have a fun round. Pace of play was great on Easter Sunday afternoon. Played in 345. Fantastic.
Fairways
Beautiful sloping fairways were deceivingly wide. Couldn't gauge where the hole went since you couldn't see over some hills. Tree line made for some difficult shots. Overall great
No Frills but well maintained and a good challenge
We have been playing at Locust for years and it has always been a fairly well maintained, moderately challenging course. Recently they started to fix up the, ( I'm struggling to call it club house areas), and added a snack bar and on course cart girl service, which it really needed. The problem is they raised the price, and its above what you can get other better courses for. We did get a great deal on golf now though.
GREENS ARE TESTING!!!!!
Course in great shape except bunkers some sand thin and some not raked. Interesting holes. They took care of leaves on greens and fairways. If you hit off off line ball searching will take some time as fall is happening. Will play again only with Golf Now otherwise out of my price range.
This course was very entertaining.
Thy staff was very friendly and right off the top we got a discount. I'd recommend this golf course to anyone and I'm going back.
Nice Course, Well maintained.
The course was in great condition, greens and fairways were in great shape. The only thing was no ranger for 14 holes, group in front fell 2 holes behind which backed up everyone behind. Marshall shows up and sat and watch us play the next two holes. All in all would play again.
A very challenging course.
My foursome play from the blue tee box (black is the back tee box). The greens were lighting fast and ran true. Some tee boxes were beat up. The fairways were in good condition as were the bunkers. Green fees are a good value. We will be back.
