Good course, rough tee boxes
Played an early round with great weather. Staff was very accommodating and let me play the two 9s that I wanted to (there are 3 sets of 9 holes you can play). I like the South and West courses the most. Pace of play was good. Had to wait on maintenance to change the hole locations on the first 4 holes I played. The back 9 pace was fine, was behind 2 groups of 4, but I wasn’t in any rush to play thru. Fairways and greens were fine. A couple of greens that had some rough patches and the fairways sometimes blended in with the rough. The tee boxes, however, were HORRIFIC. Very patchy, basically teeing it up in dirt on every hole. The worst shape I’ve ever seen then in. Hopefully they can figure out a better way to maintain them for next summer.
Sublime
South Hills Golf Club is my new favorite local course. I’ve recently moved up from Florida, and am on a personal mission to maximize my Golf Now app (wink-wink).
This course was lovely, not too short or long. The new West course is, so far, my favorite, but still need to play the North course. Starters were extremely helpful managing timely play. As a solo golfer I found most groups extremely accommodating to let me play through. Very kind folk up here
I will definitely be back and bring friends!
It’s a STEAL!!
I almost don’t want leave a review because I don’t want a lot of people flooding to come to the course because then the prices will increase. Lol. This is the true steal!! The north and south nine holes are very competitive, but that west course of nine holes….game changer!! I would’ve given it five stars all the way around but unfortunately I think the restaurant that’s connected to the clubhouse is a little bit overpriced. The people there are amazing but it’s hard to charge four dollars for a Gatorade at the bar and $2.50 at the clubhouse, and they are connected to each other. If somehow they could work that out because it’s a little deceiving, five stars all the way around!
Nice new Clubhouse. Should have spent a couple bucks on the course.
Started with the driving range. Mostly dirt with a few weeds to hit off of. But it did prepare me for the course. Fairways were barely defined and mostly weeds. Tee boxes were just as bad. Bunkers were filled with weeds as well, worked out on the one bunker I was in. Ball ended up on a clump of weeds. Can I still call that a sand save?? Greens were so-so. Lots of bare spots. West course, 3rd green has huge piles of sand all over it. Had to move my ball to avoid the sand piles just to have a putt. VERY DISAPPOINTING..Just left after 15 holes.
Unneeded slow play
As mentioned in earlier review.. Slow play. We had a 3 some in front of us, playing the blue tees. Should of been whites with out question and one from the golds. No consideration for other golfers. We had a one some behind us.. Sure many consider a 1 some does not have the right of way and never let them go through.. we did, but then he joined us for the last 3 on the front 9 as the 3 some was not letting anyone through. We stopped at the turn for a potty break and water.. got to number 10, 2 some behind us jumped in front.. Rule 8 at this golf course is.. if you stop you lose your position making the turn.. Where is the ladies room on the front 9? hmm.. Now we have the slow 3 some a one some and a 2 some.. I quit after 14.. Mrs kept playing.. I just drove the cart. We will not return under these conditions. Be prepared to help pay for that new clubhouse and restaurant.. 475 for a dog?
Course great shape/ pace of play bad
Course in great shape. Only real complaint was the pace of play and no ranger to be found to get things moving. At one point in my round there was two groups on the tee, one in the fairway , and one on the green on a par 4? Weather was not an issue. So not sure what happened. For most of my round I had ten minutes between shots after getting to my ball.
Great course conditions but pace of play big problem. 4 groups on par 4. No ranger….. be one of the best priced/course condition course in are if they get pace of play working.
