Meet new people
Always great to meet nice people...but i guess golf usually presents those opportunities...
Excellent condition
Considering the amount of rain we’ve had this year, the course is in excellent shape. Nice fairways and the greens were nice.
Perfect Day
Course in good condition, everyone was friendly ... etc. we were a twosome but did not have to wait much until the second 9. Only unfortunate issue was the foursome of high school kids ahead of us started to loose consideration on the 17th par 3. As we were waiting to hit they were goofing around throwing clubs into the sand pushing each other , yelling as they took their putts..etc. A golf ball then got thrown back onto the green followed by one of them as I was hitting... unfortunate ... they are young but this kind of behavior should be policed by the staff and eliminated.
Nice Course, great value
I hadn't played this course in three years. I was entertaining a guest from out of town and was very happy with the course conditions and pace of play. We played 36 holes that day and were charged half the cost of our first round. Staff was friendly and very accommodating. They have a very good GPS system in the carts. The greens are in great condition and very challenging. Overall the day at Fort Cherry was very enjoyable.
Best for the money
Golf Now has hit the nail on the head with this course...great value.. good test...and very nice condition...probably should dump the gps..90% of players today have their own yardage devices...and this system tends to slow down play
Very good, quick, cheap round
Booked pretty last minute but easily got on, and for under $20. The course was in really good shape considering the part of the season and weather conditions. I will be going back to play the course the summer.
Wide Open
Course is always in great shape. Wide open layout with several challenging holes. Friendly staff and really nice restaurant on site with full bar. Will definitely be back again.
Early year condition
For the time of year the golf course was in great shape. All aspects of the golf course T's Fairways greens and rough.
Typical Fort Cherry Ineffective Golf Course Management
Had a regular group of golfers that make T times and play at Fort Cherry regularly throughout the year. Not that Fort Cherry is any sort of impressive golf venue, but it is cheap! Understandably so by golf course condition and layout standards. Showed up for play and players had to stand around for quite a long time, waiting for the few carts that were usable but out on the course. Most of the carts were unusable because they had dead batteries. Although, it could have been a blessing in disguise if players would carry their bag and walk so they would not have to suffer through the stupid cart control software that slows and stops carts way too often and at many non-sensical times and locations.
Anything over $25 for this course is ridiculous!
Used to play here quite often. Wasn't the best, but the price was right and it was a good value.
Then the bar got fixed up a bit and they started charging over $40 to play. You can literally play Quicksilver for about the same amount of money as Fort Cherry; which really put it in perspective.
It looks as though the positive reviews I see are all very vague and similar, which leads me to believe they were either payed for or done by course management.
The real icing on the cake for me, is the carts that will slow down or shut off in the most ludicrous of places on the course. You'll even get warned and slowed if you are just on the cart path. I believe playing around with a mother-in-law and two newborns would have been less annoying than playing with these carts.
Get the price in line for what you actually offer and I'd recommend, but at the same rate as some very nice courses in the area and I'll never be back.
good condition
the rough was very well-kept, with no bare spots and consistent height. Course has many parallel holes, but generally wide landing areas.
Only worth the trip for a deep discount
Have played Fort Cherry 5 times in the last year and the only time it’s remotely worth the trip is on a great hot deal. Today the entire course was soaked (no drainage anywhere). All but 1 cup was full of water. The other 4 times I played Fort Cherry the greens were always ridiculously firm. The GPS on the carts are horrible and slow down when passing water hazards while still on the cart path, and if you get too close to the green or hazard then you are forced to reverse even if you’re cart is pointing the direction to get you back to the cart path. The pro shop was closed since they were slow, but thankfully the bartender had the list of prepaid golfers. The only time I’d consider coming back is another $16 hot deal like I had today, but even then I’ll still be checking other nearby courses first.
Course is wide open so bad golf can work out to be good. And a history of danger zones from golf balls flying in all directions. Adjoining holes put you in danger of being hit by balls that zoom at your head. Story is that a player was knocked out & taken to a hospital when he was hit directly in the forehead by a drive from the #8 tee, while walking up his #7 fairway. I was not hit, but several times I heard Fore being yelled as balls went bouncing by. Pretty hard ground and you can get a lot of distance on the greens after your ball lands on one. One of the worst GPS & golf cart control systems I have ever experienced. Carts are slowed down & stopped in illogical places, e.g. the cart path. Inaccurate GPS information. $45 is ridiculous for this course. I have played here before over the years but now with that aggravating GPS/cart control system, I try to avoid going to Fort Cherry as long as there is another golf course open somewhere.
IRRITATING GOLF
Except for the fact that you'll be able to hit the ball anywhere and still have a shot to your green, it will probably be the most irritating round of golf you'll ever play. Balls will bounce off & roll across greens, after they've rolled over the hardpan to reach the green. Then, the cart operation will be infuriating! Controlled by the GPS system, they are slowed down when you are driving them ON THE CART PATH! & that is only an indication of the irritation the carts will cause if you get off the cart path. Someone with no knowledge of golf wrote software thinking they are going to control the cart on the course. I have heard that players have turned off the GPS unit because it was so irritating & an employee rode out to where they were & turned their GPS unit back on. But, like the Three Stooges, you can golf with your friends at Fort Cherry.
This is a fun Golf Course to play. You actually have to be able to move your ball in all directions. Greens are on slower side but can get a little quick on downhill putts.
FT CHERRY
Ft. Cherry is one of our favorite courses to play. Course is always in excellent condition.
