I was very disappointed in the condition of the course. Thankfully, the greens were in good shape. The fairways were pathetic as were about half of the Tee Boxes. I played this course 4 times last year.. It seems like they are deliberately neglecting this course and concentrating only on The Olde Course (which is also located at Cobbs Creek). I got a good deal on the green fees and was still disappointed ; had I paid FULL price, I would have been angry and disgusted. I would NOT recommend playing "Crap-a-Dung" right now. Play the Olde Course, instead. They share the same "clubhouse" and pro shop.
Disc Golf Course
Pretty sure this was a disc golf course with greens plopped down at the end so they can charge you 30 bucks. Would be surprised if they ever employed one groundskeeper. Homeless people literally sitting in the rough on various holes.
Rough and Rugged
Has always had an interesting layout, but they have really let it go. It is in as bad a shape as I have seen in the 20 years I have been in Philadelphia. It, however, is still a good place to go and get your cuts in .
Recompete the management company
Worst round I have had in years.
The course is in deplorable condition, grass not cut. The city should recompete the contract for the management company. No sense of professionalism shown by anyone there. Who lost walking from the parking lot across the street to the next hole, some fat man standing on the deck of the trailer yelled at me to come over to him. When I asked him how I could help him his response was: “You gotta pay”, I ireied to him that my tee time was early in the morning and I was crossing g over. His correct and professional question should have been something similar to; Excuse me sir, could you kindly tell me your name and tee time? I have his name and and his managers name and will file a formal complaint. To add to the frustration of this course, they double billed my credit card.
Through the day the fellow turning on the greens sprinklers waited until we were approaching the green to turn on the sprinklers, turned them off after we putted and then went to the next hole to do the same thing. I finally caught up with him and stopped the silliness.
Save your money and watch golf on the TV or use the $6 dollars for gas and play a round at Skippack, Kimberton or Springfield CC.
I recommend that we vote Karakung as The #1 worst course in the area
This isn't a golf course
I'm not one to write reviews, or to complain after spending a nice day outside - but everyone should know what they are signing up for.
We lost a total of 24 balls between 3 of us - most were hit in the "fairway" or just off (pictured here). There is no effort to do even a SMALL level of course upkeep. Everything is overgrow, there is literal TRASH everywhere, and we had to wait to tee off because a homeless man was sitting on the green.
I'm asking for my money back, don't waste your time or money unless you plan on playing a game that isn't golf.
It’s a joke how bad this is. They make you walk the course, it looks like it hasn’t had the grass cut in years. There aren’t even fairways. Lost several balls cause of how overgrown everything is. Greens were pathetically bad. Even at $30, this was highway robbery. Do not go here. To top it off, lady in the office had a major attitude. Won’t ever come back
Awful... do not spend money here
This course was absolutely terrible. Do not spend your money here if you like golf. What they called fairways were hayfields, and also had zero direction on the course layout. The woman working the Clubhouse was miserable. Waste of time... bad experience.
DO NOT PLAY HERE! The Karakung is in horrible condition as Ive heard its been for years. Play the Old Course if you dare.
Kick golfphilly off the course!
Ever since they golfphilly people bought the place/took over, the courses just get pumped full of people. There is no reguard for the history or courses. Live 10 mins away and would rather hit anywhere else. Its a real shame. They dont even tell you the olde course used to be a nuke shelter by hole 5/6. Growing up on the courses both used to be well maintained. Now cobbs is in it for the money. Just think they used to hold pga events back in the day. Never again will the glory days reign. . Get golfphilly out!! Go work on fdr mike needs help!
A hunt on a course...
The conditions of this course were the worst I’ve seen. The grass was poorly mowed (high in some areas, uncut rows, grass clippings everywhere), most signs were either missing or hard to see, and the amount of trash/broken bottles on the fairway was unbelievable. On the 11th hole I witnessed no less than 3 water snakes in pile of trash that collected near the “water”. You really can’t tell the fairway from the rough. Not recommended at all.
Disappointed in the maintenance of this course
This course wasn’t properly maintained for days. Lawn clippings everywhere. Knee high grass in most fairways- waist high grass in some. Course layout is fun and conducive to good paced play and the staff is always super friendly at the pro shop but seems like the care/maintenance of the course is an afterthought of getting bookings. It was good to get out of the house during a pandemic but disappointing experience on the golf course, purely due to the maintenance- a very fixable issue. Next time would love to see this course properly maintained.
Worst course I've ever played, save your money
Went in with an open mind, and that quickly changed. There was little distinction between fairways and rough on most holes and even the holes that had noticeable fairways had patches of grass nearly a foot high. The first cut of the rough was so deep that if you didn't know exactly where your ball landed you spent ten minutes searching for it. The course clearly hadn't been mowed in one or two days and whenever it was mowed the clippings were left on top of the grass. The tee boxes were rock solid dirt. I am not much of a golf course snob, and never get to upset if conditions are poor but these were absolutely brutal, I stopped playing after 12 holes because it was so unbearable. Wanted to play the Olde Course soon but won't be going back because I felt so robbed playing Karakung. It's embarrassing they even let people play this course for money.
The course is a nice test of your golf game. It has character but still lacks well manicured t boxes and fairways. It is getting better from a few years back and you can see all the work being done to restore the course back to its glory days.
