Suburban Gem
In this day and age of continual change, how reassuring that some things stay consistent. Nowhere is that more true than Mt. Lebanon Golf Course. For nearly 60 years, Mt. Lebanon has offered a nearby place to play the great game of golf and a chance to greet neighbors and old friends.
That's what makes Mt. Lebanon and especially it's golf course, special, the people. The people that work at the course are consistently friendly and conscientious, trying their best to ensure that guests enjoy a relaxing 9 or 18 holes at a pace that experienced golfers can appreciate and newcomers can learn from.
Am very grateful to have this old and local treasure and to have it staffed by people that care.
Great Public Course for the value
As a Mt Lebanon resident, this 9-hole course is the best local option. I play this course frequently, and it continually reminds me of its worth for the low price tag.
For a public course, it is extremely well maintained. It was formerly a private, country club course but it has since become a public course and a local favorite.
It doesn't play very long from the Blue tees, bigger hitters like myself will find that many holes are easily reachable with a 250+ yard drive and a short iron / wedge into the green. However, this short length is combated by side-sloping fairways and many elevation changes like other Pittsburgh courses. For seniors and women it seems to be a perfect length, reachable but not unnecessarily long.
There are few fairway bunkers and no water (won't lose too many balls), and many of the fairways run adjacent to eachother so a wayward drive will not be as crippling of a mishap as on other, tighter courses.
Overall, this is a great public course for someone who lives or is visiting the South Hills and is looking for an inexpensive, relaxing, and relatively easy round without dealing with the woes of many municipal courses.
The prices continue to go up with no real measured improvement in course maintenance. It's now $16 to walk on a weekend and $24 to ride. If you equate that to $48 for 18 holes, there are many other courses out there that are better value. $12 to walk and $18 to ride seems about what it should be.
