Welcoming to outsiders
I was in RI from Chicago & wanted to experience a course on the east coast. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Had no clubs or prior knowledge of the course. The staff was very welcoming & patient getting me all set up with everything I needed. Very nice course, really impressed with its design & play. Would definitely recommend if looking for a great course with a reasonable price.
short tight course with well kept greens
short tight course. stream crossing the first 3 holes will challenge beginners pace of play is good unless you hit the first/tenth tee when others are playing first nin or their second nine.
Fun Time
It was a great day for some golf! Very nice course, inviting staff and even made some friends while waiting to tee off. Definitely would/will play Harbor Lights again. Great first time experience at Harbor Lights!
Lipstick on a Pig
It really is a pig... the course itself. Horribly designed - just the worst. Give me a 10 year old and a "design your own golf course" video game and take the worst design she comes up with and build it - then take great care of it. The conditions were very good. Sand in the bunkers. Nice greens & teeboxes. Scenic paradise.. but the layout overshadows everything else. You really should be wearing a protective helmet at all times on this course. I'm not sure if there's a spot ANYWHERE that is safe. Each hole shoots directly into another hole, and the tee boxes are usually right next to the previous green, making it difficult to tell if the party ahead of you is done or not sometimes.
Add to that it's an extremely short course... so if you hit 250 you're almost driving greens on every par 4, and you can't even hit driver on one of the par 4 holes since it's only 225... So every par 4 plays like a long par 3 and the pace of play reflects that. It seems like a course that's designed for the elderly.
I'll be back when I'm 75yrs old and can only hit it 190 off the tees.... and I'll bring my hockey mask.
Ok but won’t return
Harbor Light was fair at best. The layout is not great, with short holes packed into a tight space. The tee boxes and fairways were not in good shape, the greens were a bit better. Just didn’t feel like a full golf course, even for the modest fee charged. Sadly, I will not return.
Tight and slow
Fairways were extremely tight. So tight, the word “fore” was heard often. Play was extremely slow, due to very inexperienced players with no golf etiquette. Would have been nice if the starter head done a better job of instructing clearly inexperienced players, on the first tee, that they either need to play fast or let faster players through. Despite the fact that play was so slow, there was no marshaling at all.
Nice small course
The course was fun and in good condition, but most par 4s are drivable (more like long par 3s), and the layout is very simple. It’s excellent practice course and it is a good price for the area, but don’t expect to take out your driver at any point.
Good Course
Good course for someone learning. Not long at all, so waiting between holes. Groups are waiting for greens to clear on some par 4s. If no where to be it's a fun easy course to just get out n play.
Quick Practice 9
Harbor Lights is a great place to get in some practice play, or to have a fun, casual day with friends. Course runs short and narrow for the most part, the exception being the two 5’s that bookend the sides of the 9 hole course.
It can get muddy in certain spots, but if you go after a few straight days of sun, you won’t plug your ball. Greens have some challenging slopes that make distance putts fun.
The tiki bar with views of Greenwich Bay is fun after the round.
Bad day
Course grass over grown and very thick. If you missed the green or fairway grab another ball, you will probably never find it. Was a long wait at the 1st/10nth tee no starter to monitor and speed up pace of play. When I ask the pro shop personnel they said it’s a holiday that why it was slow. I would have left if a didn’t already pay for 18 holes. I won’t go back unless every other course is booked.
