Don’t do it
Course was in very rough shape.
No starters, burnt up, on pace for a 6 hour round before we walked off at 15
90$!!?? Would consider going back for 20
$90 is robbery
The greens are destroyed. Not puttable not at all acceptable at any price but definitely not at $90. Tee boxes need major help. They have started a bunch of projects but not finished. Robot cutters I guess is the future but the course looks like they given up on it. The prices is absurd there are plenty other courses around more reasonable priced and way better maintained
Over priced & Bad course conditions!
It's been probably 20 years since I've played this course, and now I remember why! I will NOT return, nor can I recommend playing there.
First, the price. $100 for greens fees with cart, for a Friday. Ridiculous and not justified! Likely were gouging with it being day before holiday.
Second, starting everyone that day on the 10th tee. A reason for which no one there had the answer to. They said something about making the fturn and being able to get food at the grill, none of that was up and running that early anyway. Not good. Many groups were not happy about that either. We had a 0614 tee time and did not tee off till 0635. How in the world can you be that far off that early in the day? One reason is, no starter initially. That's no way to manage timely tee times and keeping pace.
Third,, the course conditions were really bad. In particular, the tee boxes and greens! Many of the tee boxes had no grass at all. Standing in dirt trying to find a place to tee it up. Horrible!!!! The greens, many of which have disease all over them, are burnt, etc, which is just uncalled for. This can't just be blamed on a most recent heat wave as these problems have clearly existed for some time.
Lastly, the course clearly has spent a fortune on their new golf carts, GPS, etc. Computer screens, and carts that will completely stop moving on their own if you happen to stray slightly off their "path". Speeds changing randomly on their own, etc. Very frustrating!! And unnecessary!! It's not that great a course that needs this kind of technology. Also, the little robotic lawn mowers all over the place are not that great either. The little things get in the way, do a crappy job, and are also not needed. Even to the point where you can see how their destroying the edges of the greens because they can't do as good a job as a human being. Put some grounds crews back to work and fix that!
But now we know why it costs so much to play there. We're all paying for these unnecessary things. Instead, the owners should be spending that money on tee boxes and greens! And get rid of some of that unnecessary stuff.
Again, NOT worth what they're charging, and conditions are not good!!
Waste of time and momey
Just a horribly kept golf course. Had probably the best design and most potential but is ruined by pisss poor conditions. Zero pride in the upkeep.
Great day at Winnapaug
The staff at the pro shop were very friendly. The pace of play was great. Each hole is very unique. No two holes play the same. The giant boulder on 18 was an added bonus. The greens rolled true and anything green played nicely. You paid a price if you were wayward off the tee. Beautiful course.
A good course
It was a very slow round as the pace of play was off. The course was in good condition though 10-13 were a bit rough. Portia-potties were very bad. Views were good and staff was super pleasant.
Ordeal
This is my take on Winnapaug Golf Course. To call that place a dump is an insult to dumps throughout this country. It’s more like an open septic pit on a hot muggy summer day just after rain. If you’re lucky enough to stay in the fairway with your tee shot, it may take some time to find grass. Don’t worry about bringing a divot tool. There’s no way to leave a mark on these greens. If the course had given us a free foursome and asked us to just pay for carts, we would still been ripped off. I don’t care what level of golfer you are, do yourself a favor and not play it. Other than that it was ok.
Beautiful historic course design, not enough effort to maintain course
One of my favorite courses to play. Old Donald Ross has his mark all over it. But there is little effort put into the maintenance. Robot mowers that miss a bunch of grass. Just no passion when it comes to upkeep. It’s maintained well enough to keep playing but this place would be a top New England course if the effort was put into it. I’ll keep coming though that’s for sure. Staff is phenomenal and always welcoming
Needs TLC
Played with 2 locals who explains greenskeeper was let go last year & course maintenance has been lacking. Much of the course was baked out. Wonderful variety of holes but definitely needs a lot of TLC (& water)
Like playing on Westerly airport
This place SHOULD be a great track…it’s not! At times I felt like we were playing on the nearby airport, burnt to a crisp hard as a rock fairways. Most of the Greens were disgustingly, pok marked with disease and or otherwise near dirt. Tee boxes are gross,..all dirt. Idk what is going on at this place but the greens keeper and irrigation system need to get their act together. This place actually asks over $100 to play on weekends…insanity!!!
Good layout/below average condition
I've played this course numerous times over the years. It's always been a great layout. The course conditions seem to be heading down hill
Not worth the money
Average layout, course was in rough shape with dirt pathways
Was not manicured or maintained
Tee boxes had overgrown edges with waiting ticks
Slow pace and over booked
Ended our play after 9 holes because of the backup
Very disappointed
Seashore gem
Whenever it’s hot Winnipeg fills the bill by being on the shore near Misquamicut beach. Course is generally in good shape, although some of the greens have different grass or something which causes them to be somewhat slow. Not enough to send you elsewhere but is a minor concern.
Winnapaug is not in best condition
Played Winnipaug on 12 June 2026. Weather was great (25 C., 20-30 mph wind), course was not in great shape. Fairways were baked like a wannabe links course, greens were resembling broccoli crowns. Shots into greens were rolling off the back and putts were not rolling smoothly due to the inconsistency of their surfaces… some patches were barely green and thin, while others were darker and thicker. Staff were wonderful and cart worked very smoothly. The value I received through the course and Golf Now was exceptional despite having played on what is considered a weekend. Love the location, hope the course conditions can be improved over the coming months.
Winnapaug Golf Course
It was a fun day playing at Winnapaug, weather was great, and the course was nice. Some greens need some work, fairways were fine, tee boxes also need some work, don't know why they have tall grass around it, but the boxes itself are good. It's a mainly open course, which is great for beginners, but some challenges, for the advanced golfer. Overall some improvement is needed, but the discounted price made it well worth playing. Definitely going to play there again.
It’s a public Donald Ross!!
What more needs to be said. It’s a public Donald Ross!!! Go there, make the drive, just get out there and play it!! Fairways and greens are in great shape. Staff was friendly club house had good gear. Which is important cause you are going to want something after playing a Donald Ross!!!
