Not what it used to be
The cookeville golf club is a staple of the city and very well known to the golfers of the area. With its emmense history it's hard to not go there expecting a great day of golf. After a few games there recently I have been very disappointed. The grass is swamping if it's rained at all during the week. The rough is lets just say, rougher than what is acceptable to play on. They are very big fans of the carts on path only rule. But you can expect big chunks of the path to be missing, littered with potholes or be connected at the other end of the fairway, but remember, "carts on path only!" As your making your way from one path to the next you might be encountered by oneof there numerous disgruntled employees who race around all over the fairway with their own golf cart to come and tell you to stay on the path. Overall, dealing with this facility is a headache. You'd be better off just going to ironwood or white plains golf course if you're looking for a relaxing day out on the course. They really all seem to have the same difficulty. The cookeville golf club however is riding the coat tails of its founders glory days and refuse to put money into the upkeep of the course.
Fun course, unwelcoming staff
Course is fun, kept up around tournament times so look for thay, on the downside I have been playing at this course for the past 3 years and I've never had good service. (I bring at Least one person with me about 5 times a month)
This most recent time visiting was the last straw,
I believe his name is Matt and he was extremely rude and I will not be returning because of him. If you use Golf Now or are not a member at the club, he wants nothing to do with you and you're wasting his time. Staff friendliness is the most important factor in getting returning customers.
Fun course
This is a fairly easy fun course! Won't lose many balls... Favors a driver who pushes drives to the right! The tee boxes need some attention but it's early in the year. The rest of the course was in decent shape and should only get better as the weather warms up!!
Staff and course condition
First, the course manager named Matt is very unfriendly. He is very welcoming to Club Members but if you're a Golf Now user he is quite the opposite. He seems irritated at Golf Now users and even made a comment saying "they are practically giving it away" and "the club gets no money from this". (Referencing the deals you get from golf now) As a paying customer and a player fairly new to this sport, this is very discouraging. I like to take advantage of these deals local courses offer as I am trying to getting as many rounds in and as much practice as possible. I have recently looked in to buying a membership at a local course but after service like that, Cookeville Country Club is off my list! On top of poor service the facility is outdated and the condition of the course is poor. The greens are good but fairways, tee boxes, and the surrounding areas are unkempt. I can overlook all that ,but with the poor customer service Matt provides to non-members, I'd rather take my business elsewhere.
good
Good course. Good condition for time of year fast greens
Rough gem
Gave the appearance of a true private country club than gas run low on money or list support of it's membership. Best quality was above average greens and friendly staff. Very poor fairways and bunkers.
Great greens
Great course. Greens are in very good shape! Fairways, tee boxes are in good conditions, carts are nice and also clean. However the bunkers are not in good shape, they are lacking sand. Great staff in pro shop and also restaurant.
Course in great shape
An excellent day to play on a great course. Our foursome enjoyed the round. Fairways and greens are wonderful. Would have given 5 stars...carts need upgrading and distance markers could be improved. Senior and women tees are too close together! One of the best courses in the Upper Cumberland!
great small country club
I'm 64 and played from the club tees. The length of holes were reachable, the rough was managable, greens fast, true, and held high approach shots. The practice areas for putting and chipping are too small. I'm planning to play the course again before I leave the area.
Excellent
Great COURCE, well maintained, loved it. Hope to play again soon. Thanks to Golfnow for making it possible and a special thanks to the staff at The Cookeville Golf Club. Terry Geren
CCC
Older course but really needed to be manicured a little better. At the hot deal price it wasn't a big deal but I know they charge $35 + on the weekends and it's definitely not worth that at its current condition.
Seen it better
Played this course for a long time now. Always been a favorite but the course was not as well managed as it had been in previous years. Not sure if they are getting it ready for the Golden Eagle golf tourney or what? Needless still a must to play if you have never played it and are in the Cookeville area!
Avoid for a month
Greens are like sand traps. Absolutely pathetic. Airating greens which I understand but they don't need to soak them with sand. Ball kicked every which way and there were more sand on the greens than there were in the traps. Normally a great course but avoid it for about a month until they get some grass on the greens. Worst part is nearing of this on golf jow when we booked the tee time!
Conditions very good after harsh winter
I look forward to playing the course after it recovers from the winter
Favorite in Cookeville
This is by far the best course in town. As far as challenging it's about average but the staff are great. They take very good care of the course. The only negative thing I can say is about the bunkers. They probably haven't been raked in 10 years.
Excellent
Excellent golf experience. Very nice course and all personnel was excellent. Will continue to golf there when possible for me.
Great value for a well maintained course.
I play this course often especially when I can get a great price on GolfNow. I would say its a close race between this course and White Plains for the nicest in Cookeville, I prefer Cookeville Golf Club though. You'll find nicer courses within 30-45 minutes of Cookeville but this is a fine course close by. The course usually flows well and typically isn't packed with people as long as you don't come on a day when they're holding an event. One negative is their driving range, its pretty small and most of the times I've used it the balls are dirty making me wonder if they even have a ball washer, this obviously will lead to club wear.
The folks that work at the course, from the Pro Shop to the Cafe are very friendly.
I drive an hour and a half to get to this course so that says a lot. I found the staff to be very friendly and they've done well to keep the course in the shape its in especially with all the rain we've had.
Great value
07:30 T-time and the course was being prepared for us. Very friendly staff. Wishing this course was at home in Illinois.
