Want to play the best public golf courses in Tennessee?
GolfPass releases a Top 20 Public Golf Courses in Tennessee every March thanks to YOU. We create our annual Golfers' Choice lists by curating the reviews submitted by everyday golfers. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages.
Each course needed at least two reviews and at least some public access to qualify. As a nine-hole course, Sweetens Cove isn't eligible for our list. Also The General's Retreat and The President's Reserve at the Hermitage Golf Course along the Cumberland River outside of Nashville didn't receive enough reviews in 2024 to qualify.
We make our Golfers' Choice best-of lists user friendly. Simply click on the photo of each course to learn more about the facility or to book a tee time (in most cases).

What they're saying: "I played today (in shorts bad decision, thankfully pro shop had a pull over I bought) and it was great. It was my first time back on a golf course in about 15 years. I had zero clue what or how I was doing but it was fun. Staff was constantly making rounds and checking on everyone. Course was great! All around a great time." - dhuddleston41 -
Avalon Country Club
Green fee: $45-$75
What they're saying: "Great golf course layout with hilly terrain. greens and fairways were in excellent shape for nearing the end of October 2024. Course is always maintained and manicured well. Great starter interaction if required. Friendly restaurant staff and menu selection." - Fkerze70 -
The Golf Club of Bristol
Green fee: $63+
What they're saying: "Played after hurricane Helene and the course was in great shape. They had over 20 trees down but it did not affect the round at all. A fun course." - nonsmokingjoe -
Cattails
What they're saying: "Course in great condition, staff was friendly and helpful. Only thing that bothered our 4some was to many twosomes - (courses) need to pair them up. Our foursome was pushing a twosome, I think they were play 2 balls and ball hunting as well. A ranger would have helped speed things up." - Flash4
-
Lake Tansi Resort
Green fee: $39-$65
What they're saying: "First time playing this course and I'm very impressed! Course is near perfect from tee to green. Only issue I had was our foursome was behind a group of elderly men playing also as a foursome. We had a 5th join us to help with the pace because they were not interested in speeding up or letting us through. By the 9th hole we are all waiting on them to clear the green when the ranger came by and told us they didn't allow five in a group. Even though we had to still wait every shot and there was nobody behind us. I think it should be a case-by-case basis or maybe enforce the slow play rule of letting faster players through. Other than that, I give it an A+. Will definitely go back." - OBulldogs -
Lambert Acres Golf Club
Green fee: $30-$50
What they're saying: "Lambeau is always in good condition. It was still a little soggy in places after all the rain last week. It was a perfect day for golf, so it was very crowded. Got backed up a few times, but that is expected. Less then four hours is always a good round." - rericus -
Paris Landing State Park Golf Course
Green fee: $26-$49
What they're saying: "Course was absolutely stunning. Views were incredible over the lake, fairways were incredible, greens were medium speed and everything was well cared for." - GolfPass Reviewer -
Gaylord Springs At Gaylord Opryland Resort
Green fee: $69-$109
What they're saying: "Very cool golf course! Flatter than where I play but was a very fun experience." - Denverfan7 -
Clinchview
Green fee: $18-$38
What they're saying: "Hadn't played here in a couple years. Course is in great shape considering the hurricane rain had it pretty wet. Greens were tougher than I remember. We'll definitely be back on a drier day to get the full effect." - bcbutler3 -
Fall Creek State Park Golf Course
Green fee: $33-$61
What they're saying: "Course is in fantastic shape, greens are really quick too! The course throws everything at you with dog legs in both directions and requiring you to hit all the clubs in your bag. Do yourself a favor and play it in the fall with all the beautiful foliage." - mtxgeorge -
Bear Trace At Cumberland Mountain
Crossville, TennesseePublicGreen fee: $21-$80
What they're saying: "Enjoyed the lay out...very scenic! Friendly staff... would have liked more options on alcoholic beverages but will definitely return." - GolfPass Reviewer -
Gatlinburg Golf Course
Green fee: $50-$75
What they're saying: "This course is very tough, especially the back nine. The front nine is pretty wide open, but the back is very narrow. It was very busy on a Saturday, so pace was kind of slow. But the views were so worth it! Highly recommend!!" - Golfpass Reviewer -
Dandridge Golf & Country Club
Dandridge, TennesseePublicGreen fee: $33-$45
What they're saying: "I love each of the 9 hole courses. I seem to never get tired of playing Dandridge based on the change up of course order." - GolfPass Reviewer -
Greystone Golf Club
Green fee: $60-$70
What they're saying: "All in all, if you are in the area, even if you want to take the drive from Nashville, I like this option. Nashville area public courses are overpriced for the layout/conditions. Greystone was very reasonable with the price and the layout is great with some elevation changes, some water hazards, some trees, some rocks and some wide-open spaces. It has it all and was certainly worth it. The pro shop had good personalities and people seemed to be in good spirits at this course." - KevinWMcBride -
Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle Golf Club
Green fee: $36-$49
What they're saying: "Great course. Pace was really slow for the first few holes but opened up nicely. Played here a few times and the course is in the best shape I’ve seen. Never have any issues here and I’ll definitely be back!" - JesseToler
