I would like to just say great job to greens staff and everyone else work on getting the greens back into good shape. In the short amount time they have been working on them the greens are already looking 1,000 times better. The rest of the course is in great shape and always fun to play. Thank you team for working so hard this last month.
Extremely Disappointed
Greens are awful not just the temporary green on the first hole. Course should be closed until greens can be fixed and that will take many weeks. Do not waste your money.
Scenic, Challenging Course
I played this course for the first time on 9/16/18. It features two par-3s with forced carries over water and three par-5s with approach shots over a large creek. Several other holes have water / marshes come into play adjacent to the fairway. The fairways are pretty generous, but if you hit it way off-line, your ball is gone.
The tee boxes and fairways (Bermuda grass) are in very good shape. The greens are bent grass, and most of them have rough areas from the summer heat. The green on hole #1 was closed due to re-seeding, and a temporary green carved out of the fairway. That was the only real disappointment for me. I didn't think the greens were as bad as they are depicted in some of the other 2018 reviews, but they do need some TLC.
I will play this course again, probably in the late spring before the summer heat takes its toll.
Downhill
These used to be a go to course for our group. Conditions are terrible especially the greens. Overall condition bad. When providing feedback to staff they seemed surprised. All the need to do is look at the green on #1 and get the idea!
My name is Steve and manage the marketing at Saddle Creek Golf Club. I know it has been several months since you posted this review, but I wanted to ask if you would be willing to re-review our course in the coming weeks? We have made so many changes from improvements to the greens, fairways, tee boxes and sand traps. We also have changed leadership and we now have a great General Manager in Brandon Jones. I wanted to ask if we gave you a FREE round would you be willing to check out these improvements yourself?
Every green has heat damage
The course should be closed until the bent grass greens can be restored, Every green has large burned out patches. No mention of the conditions was made when I made my reservation today. At this time it is definitely not worth the price being charged. The course earlier this year (May, June) was in good shape but the prolonged hot weather has had a brutal effect on the greens. The fairways are in good condition.
course ( greens mostly) needs a little love
Have played this course several times over the years and have always thought it was worth the drive. I like how different the two nines are, the practice facility, proshop personnel, and the snack bar. Felt like this course is a good value. This time was a slight disappointment. The bent grass greens were stressing severely and the first green was the worst by far. I understand bentgrass and this oppressive heat but they are fighting a losing battle without fans for air circulation at the very least. You don't see near as many courses down this way using bent anymore as most having gone to a sturdier hybrid Bermuda. The fairways were just being cut after obviously several days of extra growth and their were clumps galore especially on number 9. The sand had not been stirred up and was hard and packed. I realize some of this was due to the hit or miss rains we have this time of year. Apparently they had been hit a lot. Mosquitos were horrible but they did provide us some off at the turn and the back was much better. We teed of earlier and were done before 11 and the snack bar still was not open. Employees were nice in the proshop. I hope this experience and condition is not a sign of things to come. I drove over an hour and left a little let down.
Worth a try
The overall condition of the course was fine but many greens were damaged with large areas of dead grass. Otherwise an enjoyable experience.
Workable course
Great layout and friendly staff. Need some work on fairways and sand traps.
Great Value — Worth the drive
Saddle Creek is a fun, challenging layout with no repeat holes—every hole is different. The front nine is very park style, while the back 9 is a links style course. Par 5’s are challenging across the board, especially number 1 and 12. The greens are consistent and quick, but small.
The clubhouse restaurant/bar is top notch for a publIc course: try the club or Heart Attack Burger.
The staff is refreshingly nice, and the practice are is more than adequate, with a large green, bunker/chipping area, and driving range.
Overall one of the best values and best kept secrets in the mid state.
Nice Layout
Fun course that has a nice layout. Good staff and a good range. Back nine fairways could use a little work but priced right for the conditions.
One of my favorites
This course is an all around favorite of mine. The course has some challenging holes (a few straight and simple holes), it's well kept, has a nice driving range, putting green and an excellent restaurant. They designed the course around the creek very well. The creek comes into play on holes 1, 9, 10 and 18. There are ponds that you have to deal with on 4 holes. The course is always in good shape.
Best Kept Golf Secret in Tenneessee
Saddle Creek is located in Lewisberg, TN. I have been playing as a member for the past year. The course has been in great shape all year long.
The club house is very comfortable and offers great food and snacks.
The driving range and pitching area are close to the first hole.
I have never had a problem with the carts...I think I have only seen one person on the course this past year with a broken cart.
The front of the course is a little tighter and has some holes that require good course management. The back of the course opens up a little more.
Favorite holes...#6 and #7...lots of water.
The first hole is a challenge for me...par 5...you'll need to hit two good shots to have an open shot at the green....stay left.
The staff is always friendly and helpful... Greg Wilson the club pro is an awesome guys and I have enjoyed private lessons...good teacher.
Never get tired of the course
Greens had a setback, but they are coming back and the course is fun to play.
Pleasant place to play
I have played this course numerous times. I drive 50 miles to get there, but considering the cost, the pace of play, and the layout, it is worth the drive. Friendly staff, good condition, and cost are major factors.
Greens Are In Terrible Condition
This is one of my favorite courses in the area. Challenging, interesting layout and a friendly staff. The fairways were in nice shape. However, it was disappointing to find the greens in terrible condition. In fact, I think that some of them are not salvageable. I probably will not return until I hear that the greens have improved.
Disappointed
I played this course almost weekly 2 years ago. The course was in great shape then. Now, is a different story. The greens are so thin, pitch marks cannot be repaired. There is just as much gravel in the bunkers as there is sand. Whoever has started managing the course within the last 2 years has done a poor job with the greens.
