Pleasant place to play
I have played this course numerous times. I drive 50 miles to get there, but considering the cost, the pace of play, and the layout, it is worth the drive. Friendly staff, good condition, and cost are major factors.
Greens Are In Terrible Condition
This is one of my favorite courses in the area. Challenging, interesting layout and a friendly staff. The fairways were in nice shape. However, it was disappointing to find the greens in terrible condition. In fact, I think that some of them are not salvageable. I probably will not return until I hear that the greens have improved.
Disappointed
I played this course almost weekly 2 years ago. The course was in great shape then. Now, is a different story. The greens are so thin, pitch marks cannot be repaired. There is just as much gravel in the bunkers as there is sand. Whoever has started managing the course within the last 2 years has done a poor job with the greens.
Disappointed
First let me say I have not played the course in a while. Hole #1 had more sand on the green than grass. Not because the greens had recently been punched, but, the sand was to cover the areas where there was no grass. Even the greens that did not have sand on them were horrible. The grass was so thin and sparse you could not repair a pitch mark. The bunkers were full of gravel.
There was a tournament in front of my group and the folks in the tournament would cut across play in the adjoining fairways to play their badly sliced/hooked tee shots, stopping play for everyone else. When asked about proper etiquette, we were told that the tournaments superseded all other play on that course.
I will not go back until at least the greens are fixed. There are too many other good courses in the area that are maintained to waste an afternoon.
1st timer
!st time to play this course. I enjoyed the layout and fairways were pretty good condition. The greens were less than good. Bent grass not the best for this hot wet weather. Some bare spots and thin in some areas. They did putt well. smooth and fast. They would not stop me from playing this course. Cost very reasonable especially from golf now. I would recommend you play this at least twice or three times. As I am a good player, not great it was fun and had some challenges
Had a great time.
My first time on this course & had a great round. Since this was my first time here, I was unfamiliar with the layout and the hazards and ended up losing a sleeve of new balls. Better hole diagrams on the score cards would be nice. Make sure you bring plenty of cash as the drinks are a little pricy. Loved the course though and I will be back.
Great course and very nice staff
Saddle Creek is a very good course and the staff is super nice. That is why I have no problem driving 40 minutes from spring hill to play there.
Nice course, worth playing
Dropped down from Nashville vacation to Lewisburg to play Saddle Creek mid-week in early June. We had had several days of rain, so the course had a bit of casual water, but less than I expected (judging from the ponds and streams, the water table is maybe 2 feet below ground). Drainage was good. Fairways and greens were in good shape, and once I got calibrated on the way the greens run, was able to play it well. Lot's of water hazards (not well marked) demand some judicious and well-placed shots. This was definitely a course I'll play again.
The old drive-in theater at the end of #10 was also a bit of Americana and gave me a moment to smile. This part of Middle Tennessee is beautiful.
Country Golf
If you're looking to have a round of country in your golf....this is the course.
Very good course
Our foursome is fast so anytime we finish in four hours we should not complain. This course as well as most others should marshal speed of play because we got a two and half hour back nine back up. The course was is very good shape and the week long rain did not adversely effect this course.
RThe course's wandering creek and small lakes make it especually challenging.
The reason I chose Saddle Creek is that my son, who lives in Atlanta and I live in Louisville, is half way betweek the two cities. I had played the coure with some friends before, so it seemed to me that this wuld be a natural for our meeting place.
Time to take care of the golfers
It seems that the new owners are more concerned with their restaurant rather than the course maintenance. The pin locations were always rotated and known to the golfer. Now they stick the holes wherever they want with no clue to the golfer. There is no ranger on the course. The course itself was always taken care of better than it is now. Luckily the rounds are cheap and the beer is cold otherwise this course would be closed. Time to hire some help and get his course back into the shape it was a year or two ago.
Layout is great !
Course is in good condition considering all the wet weather this year. The only negative is the speed of getting food at the turn and they rarely have a beverage cart on the weekends.
Great course for mid Jan
The course is in great shape. Number 1 green was in rough shape, but the other 17 holes were very nice. The course was wet from recent snow/rain we have had but the course held up nicely. The tee boxes were nice and even though wet the fairways were still able to get some run. As always, the staff is extremely friendly which is nice to start your round. Have drove down from Nashville several times to play this course and will continue, a hidden gem. Only downside is on some of the greens you do not know where the pin placement because you cant see the green. The have a sheet on scorecard, and it may just be during winter, but they were never the same numbers.
course well maintained and great practice facility
Great course. Great layout. Only problem we had this time was there was a group of 4 on the back nine holding 5 groups up. If you have a foursome as your group, you should almost always let a twosome play through.
Play this course!!
This course has a great layout. Very challenging and keeps you planning your strategy for each shot. The owners of the course we're on the property the day I played and they are both awesome people wanting to make sure you enjoyed your day. I will definetly be back soon to play again.
