The Grizzly Golf & Social Lodge - Grizzly Course
About
The Grizzly Course is a collaboration between Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead. Since opening in 1972, this challenging layout has been host to numerous PGA, LPGA, and Senior PGA events. The golf course features long, curvy fairways lined with towering trees and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout. The three final holes feature water hazards, which are also accompanied by a difficult array of bunkers. It offers a fair amount of difficult holes but overall the course is playable for a range of skill levels, which is why it is an appealing layout for tournaments. In addition to the two courses, the Golf Center also boasts an 11,000-square foot putting green and an Academy Course with four championship holes.

stacked up on fairway! #Grizzly Photo submitted by todski26 on 11/12/2012
Not what it used to be...
The Grizzly used to be one of the premier public courses in Cincinnati. Now, it is in terrible shape, the layout is dumb, and the greens are terrible. However, people still flock to the course because of its reputation, and the rounds are SLOW!!! When we played, it took us over 4 and half hours to play 14 holes. There were no rangers and no where to go. So we quit. There is no reason that golf should be that slow. They charged us a lot of money and I didn't even get to finish the round because of the pace of play. Furthermore, there are a many way better courses in Cincinnati. I will not be back to The Grizzly unless they make some major changes.
Nice people
The clubhouse staff was friendly and accommodating. They didn't mind when my playing partner arrived late, and got us on the course without any hassle. The clubhouse staff was also very cordial, and the lunch special was great.
The course is quite scenic and challenging but not overwhelming to the occasional hacker.
tight course in good shape
fast play,in good shape for november. sand bunkers could use some fluff
Weekend play was ridiculous.
We booked a 2 pm 4-some. The Marshall had 3 sets waiting when we arrived at the first tee. It was grueling, and there was a local in jeans and a t-shirt looming as if he was going to be let in for free at a lull. It makes me wonder how many of this guys "buddies" were playing ahead of us for free. The weather was great but they were not in control of that nor the course play. Sad.
Great price but too slow of play. No Ranger to make sure pace was kept.

The course has a couple of beautiful holes, particularly the closing Par 5's.
This is a good course and it was in good shape, given the time of the year. Rough had just been airiated so that impacted balls not landing in fareway. But the course overall was in good shape.
Decent course for $25 or less
It is not the same course that Jack designed but a decent value for $25 or less. Generally in good condition but the par 5 are certainly too short for the current equipment. I wouldn't pay $35 or more but it is a decent track for a $25 greens fee on a Friday afternoon or weekend afternoon.
Decent course but needs a little work
Most holes are clean and very green for September. But other holes were shaggy, full of leaves and in serveral places, overrun by goose droppings. Our round took over 5 hours because of a father in his 50s and a son in his 20s hit the ball 30 yards and drive to it, do it again. Last hole we had 5 groups waiting. Not the courses fault but our round suffered.
Challenging, interesting course.
I liked everything about this course with the exception of the greens. No doubt it gets a lot of play, but the greens were pretty pocked up. The fairways are wide enough, the tees, fairways and rough are well-maintained, and the staff members were very friendly. It's one of those courses you need to play several times if you're looking for a low score. Very good course.
Fun course!
Played the North and West courses at the Golf Center at Kings Island with three other couples (two foursomes). The course was in good condition in spite of the drought earlier in the year. We had a great time.
Great layout and well maintained.
The course was in great shape and the greens were pristine. Each hole from the tees was scenic and looked very challenging. However, I found the landing areas were fair and not as daunting as they appeared from the tees. I would definetly recommend the course and plan on returning before heading back home to Georgia. Great value for the dollar.
Grizzly course not what it used to be
The Grizzly used to be one of the premier courses in the Greater Cincinnati area. It is under new management has gone way downhill. The course was in terrible condition the day I played. Fairways and greens were both fried. Yet, for some reason it is one of the busiest courses around and play is always slow. We hit 4 1/2 hours and were not even to 16 yet, so we quit after 15 holes. It will be a long time before I play the Grizzly again.
Hello, skylarcy. Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. With that in mind, we are working to best control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. Thank you for playing and we hope to see you again soon.
