Woodlands/Lakeside at Shaker Run Golf Club
About
Shaker Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf that are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Woodlands/Lakeside Course is the club's original layout designed by Arthur Hills. It was later joined by the gentler Meadows nine. Since opening in 1979, the Woodlands/Lakeside combination has come to be known as one of the best courses in the state. It features challenging elevation changes that are rare for a golf course in Ohio as well as several doglegs and numerous sand traps strategically placed throughout. As the names would suggest, there is also an abundance of water and trees on the course. The fifth hole on the Lakeside nine is Shaker Run's signature hole. The tee box sits nearly 100 feet above the hole and plays into the prevailing winds. It's tricky but if you play to the right of the green, scoring par is definitely possible.

Overpriced
I walk into the pro shop to check in and stand in front of the register where a young lady is furiously scrolling on her phone, 45-60 seconds later she finally acknowledges me.
There were two starters, one was a gentleman that felt he was far more important that he actually was and the other was cordial. I am a starter/ranger at my local course and never give people a hard time or attitude.
The course itself was in decent shape, many greens had oil or hydraulic fluid all over them from poorly maintained equipment however.
I hate to sound like Debbie downer here but if I'm paying $50 to play a course I don't want to be ignored while checking in and then barked at when I pull up to the first tee because my name is not in your starter sheet since I booked on golf now. The starter seriously drove back to the pro shop to verify I paid even after showing him my receipt. The $6 hotdog and bag of chips was also highway robbery.
I will not return to this course.
Solid challenge
Keep it in the fairway or the rough will eat you alive. Had a great time andbit it was a beautiful course and conditions were terrific. Challenging approaches on every hole. Loved it.
Course conditions, disappointing
Greens hadn’t grown in from aeration, greenside bunkers not maintained
Great Course! Highly Reccomended!
I really enjoyed my round here (Woodlands/Lakeside). The course was in great shape and constantly challenges you. This course still gives you its previous private club feels even though its public. All of staff were very friendly. Pace of play was a little slow but it's a tough course so I understand.
Mediocre experience
Well behind pace, no rangers out there to speed people up. Directions on course weren’t clear on where to go for the 2nd 9 or bar at the turn.
Beautiful Course
Exciting and beautiful course with one of the best layouts in Cincinnati.
Overpriced
Woodlands/Lakeside: Rough was terrible. Some greens had debris all over them. Pace of play was awful. The carts would lock up even when you were on the cart path. And on top of all that, the cost to play was overpriced. $60 and I ‘might’ refer this course to others. Won’t be returning.
Beautiful Course
play here has always been on my list of todo's, after finally getting to play 18 here even in bad weather it was amazing views and play!
Great shape
The course looks and is in great condition for spring. It was wide open on a cool slightly windy day. No pressure from other golfers and I got off the first tee early.
Nothing easy
Top flight facility-played Woodlands/Lakeside-tough track with small greens...
Wanted to like it, but just can't because of the condition
This could be such a good course, and apparently it was for a few decades before my time, but the condition is just unacceptable for a course that charges $75. I can play municipal courses for less and get the same lousy conditions. The greens are mostly pretty good. The fairways and tees are a mixture of good, bad and ugly and "the rough" should just be renamed "the weeds". It's 65% nutsedge.
Due to its location between Cincy and Dayton, there may just not be enough population to support this course, and I think that's why it has struggled financially for so long, but they simply cannot, in good conscience, charge $75 for these conditions. They seem to have invested quite bit of money in the clubhouse. That's nice, if you don't actually play golf.
Apparently the course was supremely awful until about 5 years ago. I suspect it's better than that now but it's just a joke to charge $75 for these conditions. The staff, the clubhouse and surprisingly, the cart paths, were all very nice, but I won't be back until they figure out a much better alignment between green fee and course conditions.
Fun course in good condition, except for the rough
Challenging but very fair layout with a good mix of different type holes. Not a place for beginners but certainly playable for most golfers.
Greens, tees, and fairways were in great shape. Rough was filled with dandelions which was disappointing, I'm guessing they're saving money by not treating the rough. Grass was thick just huge swaths of dandelions. Greens were on the slower side.
At $77 for a round, it's one of the more expensive courses in Cincinnati and not walkable, but I try to get out and play it once a year because I do enjoy the course.
