Tucked amidst the waterfalls, peaks, forests and canyons of the Columbia River Gorge lies a rustic mountain resort called Skamania Lodge. The Lodge offers a challenging golf experience you will not soon forget! This 9-hole par three course winds through the forest and around ponds, with peace, quiet and perhaps some curious wildlife many times your only company. The course is designed for walking with a very few carts available for ADA purposes, which must be reserved in advance by calling the Golf Shop. Located about an hour east of Portland, cross the Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks and follow the signs.

A great course to play at least once. Historic Skamania Lodge

Course was very tight with tall firs lining the fairway. Needed to keep it in the fairway, so often I was afraid of a full swing. Several shots where you could not see the green from tee. Several holes were either up the hill or down the hill, requiring some thought on what club to use on downhill hits. Not easily walked. Greens were in good shape. Pretty views in the woods and one great view of the Columbia River.

Beautiful

Narrow fairways, beautiful setting. Anyone ever coined the phrase "forest golf"? Left more than a couple balls out there for the squirrels.

Excellent and Fun Course

We had a great time playing the Skamania Course, the view are fantastic and the layout is challenging. Need to learn to put away the driver and hit precision shots.

Great golf course! !!

Love this golf course! This course favors accuracy over distance. Miss the fairway and you are in the woods, very little intermediate rough. Most fairways are narrow, lots of trees and ivy on the sides. Lots of elevation changes. Nice greens and well maintained. Quite beautiful views of Columbia Gorge with picturesque ponds. Cart paths are all concrete. Nice lodge and practice areas. My favorite golf course in the Portland/Vancouver area. You must play it!

Friendly and accomodating staff

Skamania is a beautiful layout, with awesome views. Keep your ego at home, as many tee shots from the whites only require a 3 to 5 iron.
Even though some of the par 4's are relatively short, they require solid shotmaking ability.
Fun course with a great staff!

Very good

Difficult course but a beautiful place to play. Use a cart unless you love walking steep hills when you golf! Bring your camera for gorgeous shots of the gorge.

Challenging if you do not hit it straight.

I think this course was very pretty. It feels like you are on a nature reserve surrounded by a resort. The course is not long but if you do not hit it straight you can get in trouble. You need to make sure you are stocked up with golf balls. The views from the tees are terrific and you ofter see hikers coming along the cart paths. The greens were in good shape and the distance was often marked.

This course is very technical

When playing Skamania Lodge golf course you must be prepared to hit off uneven surfaces. One minute you are hitting up hill and the next you are hitting from an elevated position looking down. If you are someone who usually needs a wider target, then this could be a long day. At a minimum bring a few extra balls, because the fairways are pretty narrow and the ruff consists of lush forest floor. Finding your ball after a missed fairway can prove extremely difficult. On the other hand one can't help but appreciate the beauty from which you are surrounded. Some of the tee boxes provide outstanding views, take a moment and snap a photo or two. You will be hard pressed to find a more unique and challenging course anywhere in the Gorge.

Great Northwest Experiance

This is one of the most beautiful courses in the northwest and because of the narrow fairways one of the most challenging. It requires you to throttle back a little and use your irons. The club house attendent was very friendly and it was not crowded. It's a little bit of a drive but well worth it.

Beautiful. Bring extra balls.

Skamania is a beautifully maintained course with breath-taking vistas of the Gorge. The putting surfaces are smooth, moderately paced, and fun to read (or at least attempt to).

There is a premium on accuracy - the course is very narrow and there aren't many bail-outs. If you miss the fairway, you will most likely lose your ball in dense woods or off a cliff. So, unless you are extremely accurate with your "big metal", leave 'em in the bag. There are no holes that are particularly long - a 5 metal or hybrid is sufficient off the tee for most par 4/5s.

Take a cart, even if you are an avid walker (as I am) - this course is very vertical. You'll have more time to appreciate the views and consider your tee shots carefully.

The course is well appointed with good restrooms and refreshment stations. And the lodge has excellant dining options for your post-game meal.

Follow the bouncing ball.....

Skamania Lodge's course was extra tough after the searing heat has dried out the course and the greens. Normally you can get a favorable bounce or stick a green due to the moisture of the Cascades. Unfortunately that isn't true now that we have had a number of days over 100 degrees. Try bouncing your way to the pins and find happiness with a great putt or two!!

beautiful setting/scenery

This is an incredibly narrow course, plan on losing balls unless you hit every shot straight. The fairways and greens are in excellent condition right now. Because this course challenges you to play smart and hit straight it is one of my favorite courses. Stunning scenery adds to the experience.

A Hidden Gem

If you haven't discovered Skamania Lodge, just 45 minutes from downtown Portland, you should check it out.

This is an upscale resort course (at affordable prices) in the magnificent Columbia Gorge, just across from Cascade Locks. There are NO homes or structures bordering the course and no two holes parallel each other that you would notice due to the thick stands of forest land.

The course features an outstanding variety of holes in terms of uphill/downhill routing, doglegs both left and right, and both short and long par threes. For any but the straighter hitters, tee shots will be a challenge, fairways are lined with dense forests that should you hit into, make finding your wayward ball difficult if not impossible to find. But you can rest easy and just hit a fairway wood on the tighter holes because you don't need driver length on most of them anyway.

They have a beautiful proshop, grill area and fine pracitice facility. Rates on GolfNow for Skamania are a bargain and include cart...you wouldn't want to walk this rather hilly layout anyway.

I recommend it to my friends and hope you give it a visit. It's a hidden treasure in the Columbia Gorge not far from Portland.
