North Shore Golf Club
About
North Shore Golf Course in northeastern Tacoma has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1956. It has built its reputation on the quality of the greens and fairways. The classic layout provides enough of a challenge for experienced golfers without being too intimidating for beginners. The layout will test your short-game skills with undulating greens that roll fast and true. Bunkers are also carefully placed around the greens and there are trees lining the narrow fairways. Accuracy is essential for a low score but it will also take some quick and strategic thinking since the setup on each hole presents a different challenge. North Shore is a tough, but fair course for players of all skill levels. There is also an all-grass driving range and practice facility available.

Worst Round of the Year
I will never play here again. I made it through five hours and fourteen holes amongst people and their pets using much of the course as an extension of their apartment patios before walking off. Not once during the round did I see a Marshall or anyone else keeping track of trespassers or golfers playing 20 minute holes.
Good Public Course
This has been my home course since 1983 and for good reason. The grass tee driving range is excellent, or there are mats available for those who would rather practice under cover. Greens and fairways were in great shape today. Well worth the drive. Give it a shot!
Pretty Good!
As I said in my summary, it was pretty good. The greens were nice and soft so we could fire right at the pins. Moderate to easy, it was good for everyone's self esteem as we play a lot at Canterwood and Gold Mountain's Olympic course.
Good older course
We hadn't played here in 15 years. It is a good course to play.
We liked the pace of play - 4 hours.
Good course
For theoney we paid it was a good course. Would
Not pay full price. Fairways need a lot of work.
Keep it straight
Nothing but trees, maybe two holes had water and the sand traps were minimal. No crazy dog legs or up hill approaches; but a great place to teach someone the game or refine the fundamentals. I had a great afternoon here and the practice area is above average.
no good

Greens in excellent condition
A bit out of the way but worth the drive. Have played this course occasionally for many years, it's in the best shape I've ever seen it.
The course crew could have been more considerate in their mowing while we were playing.
Although we enjoyed the course conditions and understand what it takes to keep them up it would have been nice if the mowers had been more thoughtful about when to shut down. Perhaps keeping a bit more distance from us while preparing for a shot would have been kinder as well. I know they have their work to do but I did spend money to enjoy my time on the course, not to feel like I was an annoyance to the grounds crew.
Good course
Good course. Tee boxes were pretty bad in places!!
Fun course
Fun course to play, will recommend. Sign up for golf now.com. Great deals.
Liked the course on of my favorites. Have play it several times over the past 10 years.
First 3 are tight. Last 3 are TOUGH.
Decent course. We got 6:48a tee time, think we were the only ones there. Twosome walking and we were done in about 3h 10m. Several challenging holes with 16-18 blowing up my round. Greens were hard and fast. Took a few holes to figure hitting slightly shorter club and allowing release and run on back/middle pins. Thankfully approach areas were hard too and front pins you could bounce them up as well. Course was not affected by recent rains either. $30 walking was a little steeper than I think it's worth given its GolfNow deal. There are better courses on GN for $30. Overall decent course though.
Course is not taken care of well
This course is always terrible the 2 times I have played here and the round is always slow...I hope to never play here again
Good course with dry weather
The greens were recently punched and were bouncy but with the dry warm weather they were much faster than anticipated. I will be back soon with the good value
great course
Many people thought this course was closing but it is ALIVE AND WELL. It's in great shape and plays pretty fast. Has some good par 4's and #17 is one of the best par 3's in the state! Also has a great practice facility.
Super staff, great value, awesome practice facilities
I love North Shore. The pro shop staff have always been super friendly and flexible about trying to get me out there. Dawn, Sean, CJ and David (the Pro) are the best. If my golf game was as good as the staff I'd be a scratch golfer. : )
great water holes
I've played this course for years. Always in good condition and fun to play.
Great condition for March
Played in mid March and don't think I had a ball plug once. First course I've golfed this year that I can say that.
This is a well-established course in the Tacoma area that provides a challenge on almost every hole.
This is a course where the Usual Gang of Suspects makes a point of playing several times each year. Greens this time of year are beyond excellent and staff has done a fine job of keeping the course very playable through the inclement weather that is now upon the area. Staff is particularly friendly, accommodating, and helpful and make players feel most welcome. They keep carts in great shape. Would recommend this course to any golfer who is looking for a fun and challenging course to play in about 4 hours.
This course was a fun time.
This course was a fun time paired with great people. It was challenging at times but an awesome set up. Definitely will be back.
