First time and last time men’s locker room user.
The men’s lockers are small. The benches need to be raise some. Not much space to walk. The men locker room needs to be updated. New bigger lockers would be a start.
Mr.Bill
I love this course. The course this year had some trouble with mowers breaking down. The loss of these mowers left the mowing crew behind and took a while for them to get caught up. Now things are getting back to normal. Thanks Mark for all you do for the golfers.
The Pro Shop. There isn’t one. Maybe there is a way to sell used golf equipment that golfers bring in to sell on consignment. When something sells a fee is paid to the course or a space is rented. Each seller would need to furnish a Seller’s Permit before they could leave their golf items. The sell would be responsible for submitting sales tax. (If a sell does not reach the minimum sales requiring a permit, the would not need one.)
This year the concession area lacks in hours and a variety of food. The past four years these have not been a problem. The food they serve this year is very good. The people are friendly. However, when long time members where ordering breakfast, they were told, “This is not a Restaurant”. No pancakes, French toast, eggs, and so on. Prices seem to be in line.
I do not know what the city charges them to have the concessions, but may be it’s should be reduceded. The grill, bar, back room setup is not efferent. Tap beer is unavailable do to this setup. This area all needs to changed/remolded.
A Bugs Life
While the course was generally in good condition, it was difficult to differentiate the rough from the fairway at times. The story of the round were the bugs...millions of them. It was virtually impossible to concentrate over a shot or putt when you have thousands of gnats swarming your face. We tried multiple layers of bug spray to no avail. And no, we were not playing at dusk. This occurred at 1:00 PM on a day when it was over 90 degrees. I would not recommend the course for this reason alone.
Had a little rain not much course looked great greens were nice, and the course had nice challenges to it.
Course was in good shape
Course was in good shape. Have played here many times, and that's usually the case.
Pace of play was SLOW -- not by fault of the course, but a slow foursome who were not letting anyone play thru. Idiots!
Nice course and good value
Only recommendation was for a Marshall to move along slow players.
Great course
Fall creates a leaf problem but it was managed well. Staff was the best.
Nice course
First time out this year shot 41-45. Took a snowman on number 13, my own fault. Other then that I can't complain 3 1/2 hours to play letting 2 singles play through nice course.
Very nice course
They have done many things to improve this course. Enjoyed my round. Would recommend.
Best golf value in Rock County
This is the course my dad would play often when he was younger. I really like this course because of its challenge and the uniqueness of the holes. The many water hazards (several added recently as part of a major renovation) and endless number of trees that border every fairway will keep you in check. The prices here cannot be beat. You can often play 18 with a cart on the weekend for under $25, sometimes as low as $12(!).
The drawback to this course is where it’s located. If you desire a quiet and relaxing setting for your round, this may not be the place for you. It’s rare that you don’t hear nearby engines revving and constant dogs barking from the surrounding neighborhood. The 10th hole shares a fence with a playground and sports complex, which can get quite noisy during games or when kids are playing basketball with their car stereos cranked up. The course also shares a parking lot with the municipal pool, so you might hear a lot of children playfully screaming. To put it as nicely as possible, the clientele here is sometimes questionable. You might see guys wearing wife-beaters on the course. Etiquette can be lost with a few golfers so you’ll see lots of unrepaired divots and unraked bunkers. I once almost got into a fight with someone because I accidentally picked up their ball. The pace of play can be slower, but a ranger does keep track and warns people if they're playing too slow.
Negatives aside, the challenge brings me back. The first 3 holes have you hitting over large water hazards. Hole 7 is a short par 4 with an extremely narrow fairway and large trees on each side just waiting to envelop your drive. Hole 13 has a creek winding through the fairway which you must cross twice. Hole 14 is the obligatory hit-over-a-pond par 3, and finally hole 18 has a pond to cross in the middle of the fairway. The par 36 front only sports one 3-par hole, while the par 34 back generously gives you three of them.
There is no driving range, however there is a brand new practice range where you can warm up by hitting into a net. The bar isn’t bad with an OK drink selection and a few food options. The staff is very friendly, but I don’t recall seeing a beverage cart the last few times I’ve played there on busy weekends.
