Fun course to play
It was a great course. The weather could have been better, but that didn't take away from the course itself. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that hasn't been there before to try it out - it's worth it.
A fun Labor Day roung
An enjoyable 18 holes paired with a mother/son and a local guy. Good pace of play with oversight from marshall. Could of used a beverage cart.
perfect summer day except....
It was a beautiful summer day. Mid '70's, little wind, but no cart girl until hole 15! The marshall did bring me a bottle of water that really was appreciated! Course and greens were in great shape.
Mediocre Conditions on a Hilly course
On this hilly course there are several holes which are interesting. Unfortunately the poorly cut fairways made the course play much longer than the 6260 yards which is listed for the length from the white tees. Greens were average in quality, and nearly all of them have a lot of tilt to them.
My partner and I chose our tee time because it stated that 4 spots were available at that time. However, the golf course paired two other young men, nice men, with us. They were non-golfers, and the entire round they were in trouble and looking to find their ball in the right-hand rough. That made it very difficult for us to play well.
A fun day of golf
I was paired with 2 guys from Jackson and a young man from West Bend and we had an enjoyable round with a few good laughs and a few good shots. Cute cart girl too!
Great value in Ozaukee County
Played the course for 1st time with 2 friends. Great layout and wonderful value. Right up the road from the Bog which is overpriced. Easy to get to, pace of play was great. 3:45 for the round. Really enjoyed it., Will be back next summer. Try it some time.
Have been playing Hawthorne Hills for over 45 years
The course is in great shape. We played on May 31 on one of the first nice golf days of the year. It was crowded, but the pace of play was very good. I have always been treated very well by the friendly staff. The course is playing a bit easier as many trees have been lost to disease, but the changes in terrain continue to be a hallmark of the course.
Great public course
Beautiful country setting for a course that is fun, interesting, and yet challenging. Greens are fast and true with a few that are almost unfair. ( too much slop) With all the rain this spring, the course was still very playable. One of the best public course I’ve played. Also very reasonably priced.
46 years of golf
I still have my Ozaukee County golf ID Card from 1973. It is no longer valid, but it is fun to remember having hair and it was not white. I do enjoy Hawthorne Hills. The first hole is a lovely sight. It always reminds me of the many times that I have played there. It is well maintained and I have always found the staff to be friendly and accommodating.
Best Municipal Course in SE Wisconsin
I grew up in the Mequon area minutes away from Hawthorne's sister municipal course Mee-Kwon Park. This course has always been one of my all-time favorites. Haven't played here in over five years, but here are my Pros/Cons from what I recall:
Pros:
Challenging layout with a lot of interesting holes. Average golfers can still play well, even from the Blue (back) Tees. Greens are well maintained, sometimes a bit slow and soft, but overall in good shape. Water (ponds) come into play on several holes which adds to the course layout.
Cons:
Kind of in the middle of nowhere. The clubhouse has never been renovated. Tee boxes sometimes aren't maintained well - excessive divots. When I was little, one of the rangers who I saw working there regularly made me cry. He was very unpleasant from what I can recall. I would hope the staff has grown to be a lot nicer in 20 years!
Overall:
Even though it's out in the sticks a bit, I would recommend any SE Wisconsin resident make the drive to play this course. It's a fun layout and while challenging you can score well and enjoy yourself.
