The Springs Course at The House on the Rock Resort and Golf Club
About
The Springs Course is the original course at the House on the Rock Resort & Golf Club. There is also the North Nine Course, which was added more than 20 years after the first course. Despite the difference in age and length, both golf courses provide rounds that are as scenic as they are challenging. The Springs is a Robert Trent Jones design, although the lush terrain of the Wisconsin River Valley also deserves credit. The course sweeps along the valley floor and incorporates Jones signature elements, including narrow landing areas and plenty of bunkering. Water hazards also come into play on almost every hole. Two notable holes are the ninth and 18th, par 4s that wind back to a massive double green guarded by water on one side and sand traps on the other.

We were surprised that they recently had aerated the greens without much top dressing so the holes were very exposed any really effected our putting. We should have been told that they just had aerated the greens
Once great, now needs some TLC
Have played here for decades and love the setting. Unfortunately, every year the conditions deteriorate. Bunkers were largely dirt, trees are overgrown, and some of the greens/tees are in rough shape. Still enjoyed the round, but recalibrate expectations if you've been here before.
Beautiful place, amazing scenery
Beautiful place to play, amazing scenery, greens could be patched up a little bit but other then that it’s a great course
Not a bad alternative to some of the other courses in/around Dane County, especially if you can get a good rate
Pace of play was terrible with a bunch of guys celebrating someone's birthday. That's fine but that's no reason not to be mindful of those behind you piling up.
great course
Very challenging because of the wet conditions, because of all the rain.
Price did not match the quality
For a $100 round of golf you would expect the course to be in better shape. Most of the greens have giant dirt patches and were dead. Bunkers were for the most part poorly kept up. Played on better greens in march. Avoid this place and spend money elsewhere for a better experience.
Nice layout
The Layout of this Robert Trent Jones designed course was excellent. Nice views, sensible hole layout and no goofy connections.
We all noticed that the course is not cared for as well it should be for a premium course. The greens wee in bad shape and there are heavy weeds along green edges.
Great layout
As with most Robert Trent Jones designed courses, the layout is great. No weird holes or the like. It is in a beautiful setting in the hills.
The reason for the less than top rating is the condition of the course. Many of the greens had bad spots and the green edges were weed covered. It just seemed that for a very nice high quality course, it lacked care. Most of the sand traps were also in poor shape. We liked playing the course, our first time, and would likely go back.
