Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Alabama (2024 #11)
Reviews
Excellent greens - Overall good shape.
The course is in good shape, but the greens were some of the best greens I have played in Alabama this year. Not sure if they are always like this, but these greens were smooth and quick, then many of the greens have real undulations, making it really challenging. GREAT GREENS! The layout is good. There are several tight tee boxes (I used my 3 wood more than Driver) and several blind tees (I had to drive up to make sure I was hitting the right direction). More traps with more sand would make the course better, but any golfer will tell you, nothing is better than great greens!
I just like being on a military installation as well. Everyone is so respectful and nice. We really need more Americans to serve in our great military.
The course was amazing, everyone was so helpful and friendly, and the price could not be beat. My only suggestion would be to put a sign up for hole #8. We were confused, call the pro shop and the gal was very helpful.
Great Layout
I'm active duty and play every military course I can. The greens are excellent, a lot undulation on the greens. If the greens were flat then this course would be easy but they're not! Greens were fast and rolled true, the people are among the nicest and most helpful of any course I've played. Highly recommend this to any one. Can't wait for the fairways to green up.
Greens outstanding!
Great condition but allow 45 minutes to get on base.staff seemed aloof not very friendly
Lightning fast greens.
This is the first review I've ever done. I felt the course deserved it. The greens are best public greens I've played within 100 miles even in comparison to some of the nice destin courses, these greens hold their own. The pro shop is nicely stocked and our lunch was great at divots.
Silver Wing
the hardest part of this course was getting on base. The fairways were good, lined by rough that was about 4 to 5 inches deep.Greens looked and rolled good.some sandtraps needed some work, but with the weather ,it's understandable.
Best Condition Greens anywhere.
Best maintained course and best greens in a 3-state area. Never crowded. This course as a not for profit is well cared for. Profit is not the priority, quality is.
Rude staff
Very rude and uncaring staff in the dining area. No posted times of operation. Visited 5/26/16 and lady "working", well standing, behind the bar did not even smile when we walked in and spoke to her. Never offered to help us or advise what services were offered in the cafe.
Great course to play
The staff went out of their way for us. The pro shop has everything a golfer would want. The restaurant was very good, but they close at 2in the afternoon. The course was in excellent shape and was able to get around 18 holes (3-some) in 3 hours. Well definitely recommend this course to my friend and will play again.
this course needs work
The course itself is really not that bad, although it
can be improved somewhat. The greens are horrible.
Good other than staff....
I have frequented this course for many years as the military has continued to bring me back to the area. It is a nice course and pretty challenging. Overall course condition is nice, but the staff there is horrible. The ladies at the font did not even greet me with a simple hello. They just stared at me until I handed them my voucher for a round of golf. The manager is very unfriendly and did not throw out a hello either. This course has 27 holes which is nice but they were playing white to blue, and the whole white course had mowers and leaf blower crews on it. This might not bother some, but I find it very distracting when I continuously have to wait for a mower to see me and move to the side just to stare and wait for me to finish so he can keep cutting. The leaf blowers were worse though, but you get the drift. I think this course is great, but the staff and mowing schedule really brings it down. By the way, my tee time was 12:10pm.
