Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses (2020 #4)
Reviews
Excellent
Course is certainly worth the regular rate to play it. New Owners have really been doing a good job of steady improving this course. . Perfect little 9 hole course to work on your game. Can’t say enough about how Friendly and Courteous the staff were. I will definitely be going back.
This course is a goat ranch.
20 years ago, Denham Springs Country Club had it going on. Now, I see a couple grass cutters. They must never play golf. The fairways are centipede grass and are cut long. Around the greens, it looks like the mower wasn't level, and it goes from scalped on one side and long on the other. If you hit the ball in the rough, get another ball. Unless you walk on your ball, you can't find it. The tee boxes are dead. The greens are in really bad shape. There's no such thing as roll. The course sucks. Sad,sad sad!!!
Needs a lot of work
First time golfing at this course. I’ve been trying to find some nice courses in the Baton Rouge area. This course needs a ton of work. The fairways are the same as the rough. Its hard to hit your ball even in the middle of the fairway. The tee boxes are literally dirt. When I was there the course maintenance staff was just sitting in the building instead of working on the course when there were not many people out. I will not be back until I know its been worked on.
Kind staff, average course
Course probably should have been closed due to wet conditions, but they wanted to allow members to get some swings so they left it open. Appreciate them doing so. Several greens under construction. Standard 9-hole set up. Fair value for the price.
Overbooked
We booked a tee time but had to wait an hour and a half for a cart.
Gets better and better each time.
The greens could use some, work but what course out there couldn’t! The quality of the greens and the course in general gets better each time I play
Disappointing in several ways
This used to be the Denham Springs country club. Which makes it more appealing that the course conditions were soooo bad. The tee boxes were hard packed dirt. Multiple greens were more sand than grass. The grass in the fairways was so longbthat it was difficult at times to find your ball IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FAIRWAY. The tee box deal was pretty inventive for a 9-hole course to make it into an 18-hole course. The practice green was ridiculously unkempt and did not represent other greens on the course. I’ll be checking this off the list of places I’m willing to play after 1 “adventure”.
Course staff
The golf course staff is absolutely the best. The friendliest people I’ve ever talked to at any golf course in my life. I live near by so The Pines is my go to spot for a quick 9 holes or if I’ve got the time, 18. The golf course itself I would say is great for beginners. It’s not a difficult course and if you are not a beginner, it’s a great course to practice. I go here with my buddies all the time to practice and just have fun. I’m not reviewing this course to critique the small things that I think need to be fixed or pointed out, just a review for the people who have never been and can’t decide. No one is here to judge you at this course! All around great people, from the staff to all the players. It’s like a perfect little community!
Course Conditions
Still have som ework to do on the greens. AKA #3 :)
