Overview of front 9 Photo submitted by cklep1969 on 07/28/2013
No effort
The course was in Terrible shape 5.27.23. Fairways are like a battlefield. Cart paths are like a battlefield. Sand traps are not sand traps as there is no sand (they are small lakes with weeds growing thru). Literally zero effort put into making this course decent. Food options are a hot dog machine not even turned on, cold. No drink cart making rounds. Got a good rate thru a 3rd party and was still barely worth the money paid. Really beautiful views on some holes...just too bad nobody cares to make the course nice. The staff was really nice too, but I will not be back.
Hole 15 is the Only Pull
I went With good friends and was frustrated with the fairway conditions. You are not paying premium prices by any means. But it did affect performance. A member of the staff came by and told our group to “play faster” which has NEVER happened to me in my days. Our group was playing objectively fast and was often waiting on the group ahead of us. Very disingenuous thing to say. Overall would not recommend. However, hole 15 had a beautiful view.
Excellent views, good pace but course needs some love
First of all absolutely Gorgeous course with excellent layout including challenges especially hole 7 and 16. The course has great potential considering it’s age if we’ll taken care of. I do feel as though the course hasn’t been taken care of well in a WHILE. staff is super friendly however club house amenities are scarce when it comes to food / drinks plus there is no water on the course either.
I would definitely play here again just for the views and layout hoping the course gets some love it deserves.
Nice course in area
Course conditions vary on the time of the year, as does most of central Texas. Staff are always courteous and helpful. Pace of play is great, and the layout is fun to play. I play here a few times a month and it’s one of the better courses in the area.
Nice Golf Course in Bastrop, TX
I've read some less-than-positive reviews of ColoVista but I enjoyed my recent round. The greens were a little sandy in places but, overall, rolled nicely. Good value and a very friendly pro shop staff.
Seriously?
Course conditions are horrendous and pathetic. Bunkers, fairways, greens, tee boxes all very poorly maintained. It's a shame how bad this course is, especially when you see the news articles hanging on the wall from when the course was highly praised (probably 20+ years ago). The course layout is quite nice but barely playable due to conditions. Clearly whatever funds are made go into the manager and club pros pockets and nothing goes into the course. GolfNow should require honest photos of the courses in the listings. It's like a 45 year old guy that's 200# over weight using his high school football pic for his dating app.
I got a tee time as a single on Saturday( only one slot available for the time I chose so you would assume I was playing with a group) when I checked in they said I would be with a two some as I arrive on first tee there was a group of five teeing off. No twosome ever showed so I was concerned about playing as a single behind a fivesome. I decided to see if I could get a rain check but the guys behind the counter belittled me about playing as a single on a Saturday. Very pathetic and rude. Given the disarray of the course they shouldn't have acted like they have a four star course. I won't return unless tee time is under 20$ including fees and if anyone ever asked me about the course I'll be brutally honest and tell them to run and run far. Now I know why the news articles are framed and hung in the bathroom( in case of emergency break glass and use articles for toilet paper)
Probalby won't be back
I'm played this course a handful of times now and I'm always disappointed.
The people there are nice and the pace of play is always pretty good (because there aren't that many people playing this course), but I simply can't play a course that is in such bad condition every time I play it.
I mentioned this to the staff the first time I played there 4 years ago. They told me work was being done to improve the conditions. It's been four years. I've made the hour drive out to play this course six or seven of times in those years, and not much has improved.
The course is patchy and bare. The bunkers fill with water. The greens are shaggy. So are the fairways.
I could go on.
Staff friendliness and a good pace of play can't make up for a poorly kept golf course.
The only reason I went to Colovista this time is my son is taking up the game and I didn't want to play a course where his play would hold up a lot of other prople behind us.
I very likely will not be back unless the price drops to under $25 (which is still probalby more than this course deserves), or I talk to at least 5 people who tell me the conditions are dramatically improved.
It's just not worth the drive.
Needs Work
Right off the bat on Hole 1, great tee shot, middle of the fairway… but my ball ended up in a patch of damaged swath of ground that spread over most of the fairway.
More of the same type of damage was found on most of the course - including fairway landing spots and even the greens. . Greens May have been damaged by a fungus or something - it was like putting in a bumpy sand trap at times.
the conditions improved somewhat on the back nine.
Front 9 was pretty wide open with very few trees and some ponds as water hazards.
Back 9 has lots of trees and some fun holes with dog legs and tight tee shots.
Mixed review
First time playing Colovista and mixed review. Front nine is pretty open but back nine is fun layout with some elevation changes and lots of fun. Fairways were bare in some spots and bunkers were bad throughout. About 2/3 of the greens are ok and the other 1/3 have quite a few bare spots. Overall enjoyed it and will be back.
Do not come here!
The last time I had played this course was in my freshman year of high-school, and I remember it being beautiful. I was wanting to swap it up and decided to drive out the 1 hour and twenty minutes to get there and was appalled with what I saw. The course looks as if it’s been used for a dirt rally competition, and as if they are trying to make the fairways complete mud. Absolutely not worth $50 let alone $5!!
