ColoVista Golf Club
About
Located in the Lost Pines area of Bastrop 30 minutes east of Austin, ColoVista Golf Club is a dramatic, immaculate course that’s consistently rated one of the best in Texas. Some actually question whether it is in Texas, given the unusual terrain that the course flows through.
The highlight of the course is the now-famous 191-yard No. 15, which is perched on a bluff overlooking the Colorado River and has been called the prettiest par 3 in Texas. From a cliffside tee, the hole drops over 120 feet down to a green surrounded by bunkers and swales. Because of the wind, the best play is a hard punch shot that at least has the chance to lessen the impact of the breeze.
The front nine is more of a links-style track that definitely contrasts with what you’ll see on the back. The opener is a tough, 468-yard par 4 that plays downhill.
The back nine, considered the better of the two, makes the most of the rugged terrain and extreme elevation changes. The view from the bluff is spectacular; giant pine trees line the fairways, and the 90-degree doglegs all add to the character of the nine.
After being closed for around two years, the course has had a comprehensive renovation that includes re-definition of tee areas and fairways; bunker restoration; re-grassing for improved playing surfaces; and new tee markers, signage and pin flags.
Getting there : From Austin, take Hwy. 71 east to McAllister Rd.. Turn right and follow the signs to the course, which is located 4 miles east of the river in Bastrop.

Overview of front 9 Photo submitted by cklep1969 on 07/28/2013
They have really been bringing the course back to life! The greens were fantastic. Especially compared to the Tahitian village course for the same money pretty much.
Lots of work to be done
Place need lots of work. Lots of sand dumping on most fairways. Rock cart path endless. May give it another shot next year to see how the place looks then.
Not Good!
The front nine closed and we were offered to play the back nine twice. Green were decent! Cart path onky because the Fairways were horrendous. All but the par threes. We didn't even play the second nine. Used Golfnow points to pay for the round and still felt slighted. Please get it together Colovista because you have a great layout.
Skip
Not that any Austin area courses are good but this is pathetic. Wouldn't play again for free.
Need a 4x4
Colovista is a private community located in Bastrop, Texas, which offers a unique living experience with its golf course, amenities, and home options. However, this review will highlight some of the issues faced by the community, including neighborhood amenities, the condition of the golf course, and the management of the Property Owners Association (POA).
Neighborhood Amenities One of the significant concerns for residents of Colovista is the lack of neighborhood amenities. The community is described as having no recreational facilities, playgrounds, or other common areas that would typically be found in similar private communities. This lack of amenities can be a major drawback for families and individuals who are looking for a comfortable and enjoyable living environment.
Rundown Golf Course Another issue faced by Colovista residents is the poor condition of the golf course. The course has been described as rundown and not suitable for play. This is a major concern for those who purchased homes in the community with the expectation of having access to a well-maintained golf course. The poor state of the golf course not only detracts from the overall value of homes in the community but also diminishes the enjoyment of living in the area for golf enthusiasts.
Property Owners Association (POA) and Annual Dues Colovista’s POA is responsible for managing the community and maintaining its amenities, including the golf course. However, there have been concerns raised about how the POA is handling its responsibilities and the allocation of annual dues. Homeowners in Colovista are required to pay an annual POA fee of $1,100, which is said to be used exclusively for the maintenance and upkeep of the golf course.
Residents have expressed dissatisfaction with this arrangement, as they feel that their dues are being mismanaged and not used to improve other aspects of the community. Furthermore, there have been allegations of corruption and misuse of funds within the POA, with some residents claiming that a select few are using the dues for their personal gain under the guise of maintaining the golf course.
Comparison with Other POAs in Bastrop It is essential to note that Colovista is not the only private community in Bastrop with a POA and annual dues. The Colony, another private community in the area, also has an annual POA fee of $1,100. However, The Colony offers a vast array of amenities, including swimming pools, playgrounds, trails, lakes, canoes, and much more. This comparison highlights the discrepancy between the amenities offered by the two communities and the allocation of funds by their respective POAs.
Conclusion In summary, Colovista is a private community in Bastrop, Texas, with several issues that have caused dissatisfaction among its residents. The lack of neighborhood amenities, the poor condition of the golf course, and the alleged mismanagement of POA funds are significant concerns that potential buyers should be aware of before investing in a home in the community.

Disappointing
I played here several years ago and expected better conditions. Huge, unseeded, ungrassed patches of ground were present on all fairways. I also found uneven ground and clods of dirt on many of the fairways. The cart paths throughout the course were in serious disrepair. I was most distressed with the uncontrolled fire ant problem. The tee box on hole 15 was so overrun with fire ants that it was impossible to properly set up for the tee shot. I won’t play here again.
Poor conditions
I don't think I have ever seen worse fairways. It was a moonscape of dirt patches, especially the front 9. Range balls were also about as bad as I have ever seen. On a positive note, the greens were in good shape and if the course was taken care of, I think it could be a good course. The course was inexpensive, but not cheap enough. Given its condition and remote location, I would not choose to make the journey to this course again.
We apologize for the poor condition of the fairways and range balls during your visit. We appreciate your feedback and will strive to improve these aspects of our course. Thank you for complimenting our greens, and we hope to have the opportunity to provide a better experience for you in the future.
Going back
Cool layout, friendly employee, good greens, some bare fairways. A great value for the price we paid, it’s kinda hard to find if ur not from around there. Very laid back, will definitely be returning
Greens are nice!

ColoVista - Bastrop
For this time of the year in Texas the course was in very good shape. Fairways were a little spotty but nothing that you could not deal with. Greens were great condition and fast. Overall a really nice Course with a nice layout. Front nine and back nine are unique and makes for a fun round of golf. My only complaint is that there was no water on the Course. All water stations were empty. Not good when playing in the heat.
Where besides Colovista have you been playing in the Austin area... lmao... you must be a member of Augusta National with such lofty standards.
