ColoVista Golf Club
About
Located in the Lost Pines area of Bastrop 30 minutes east of Austin, ColoVista Golf Club is a dramatic, immaculate course that’s consistently rated one of the best in Texas. Some actually question whether it is in Texas, given the unusual terrain that the course flows through.
The highlight of the course is the now-famous 191-yard No. 15, which is perched on a bluff overlooking the Colorado River and has been called the prettiest par 3 in Texas. From a cliffside tee, the hole drops over 120 feet down to a green surrounded by bunkers and swales. Because of the wind, the best play is a hard punch shot that at least has the chance to lessen the impact of the breeze.
The front nine is more of a links-style track that definitely contrasts with what you’ll see on the back. The opener is a tough, 468-yard par 4 that plays downhill.
The back nine, considered the better of the two, makes the most of the rugged terrain and extreme elevation changes. The view from the bluff is spectacular; giant pine trees line the fairways, and the 90-degree doglegs all add to the character of the nine.
After being closed for around two years, the course has had a comprehensive renovation that includes re-definition of tee areas and fairways; bunker restoration; re-grassing for improved playing surfaces; and new tee markers, signage and pin flags.
Getting there : From Austin, take Hwy. 71 east to McAllister Rd.. Turn right and follow the signs to the course, which is located 4 miles east of the river in Bastrop.

Overview of front 9 Photo submitted by cklep1969 on 07/28/2013
practice round before SEGA tournament
Course is in fair condition. Cart paths need major repair, the day we played there was nothing to eat other than a few snacks.
In a pinch
This is a decent course to play in a pinch. Kinda rough all around ie..greens, fairways, and cart paths but not a bad place to play. I think the $29 Monday green fee was a little steep after playin the course but would play it again for $20. Too many other courses in the area that are in better shape for either the same or less price. JF
Flatlands & hills.
Course still recovering from being closed for 4 years. I strongly recommend that you play there now before it gets completely refurbished & the price goes up and it gets overcrowded. It is definitely worth the trip.
Gone Downhill a Good Bit
Though the course has reopened under new ownership in the last 1.5 years, there is still quite a bit of re-investment and TLC this course needs to bring it back to the prominence it once had. Sand traps are overgrown with weeds and brush on many of the holes.
Greens are in fairly good shape as are the fairways. Not a lot of staff around on a Sunday morning. Not a lot of players around on a Sunday morning for that matter. Time and money --- that's all the place needs.
A Diamond in The Rough
With a modest financial investment, this course could be one of the top courses in the Austin area.
Clean up the bunkers. Grass is where sand should be. Raking all the bunkers to start the day, would be a big improvement .
A little edge work would go a long way.
First time @Colovista
I played here on a recommendation of a friend, the front nine is fairly benign, the back nine much more interesting and challenging and visually pleasing. The course condition was below average, wild grass growing in the fairways, slow greens soggy spots around the greens due to over watering.
This would be a much better course with better attention to the course conditions.
Re-discovery
This was our first time playing this course since it re-opened. It was closed for 8 - 10 yrs. New owners have done a good job of getting course in playable condition after being dormant so long. Hopefully they will continue to upgrade and maintain course and it will eventually be in the condition it was when it initially opened.
Best for the money in the area
The course and the staff are great, and they have nice improvements planned for the facilities. The front nine is forgiving, and the back nine will test your course management, making it fun to play. It's one of the best maintained courses in the area.
Seems to be getting worse
Played a month ago and the best part were the greens. Today, the greens were extremely fuzzy, slow and bumpy. Lots of brown and bare areas on the fairways and around the greens. Living in Bastrop, I'm really trying to support this course, but they're making it really hard because conditions seem to be getting worse. You can play Pine Forest for half the price and the course is so much nicer. I'll try ColoVista again next summer, but they have a lot of work to do!!
Jewell of a morning
We had a great time playing this course over the weekend. Been 2x before the fire, and was not sure what to expect. Course was in great shape considering the drought. We had an early tee time, so the greens were nice and wet :)
Enough of a challenge to keep you interested, but the clean air and peaceful surroundings were excellent. Though it's a drive from Austin, if your in the area give it a try.
Colovista is Back
I had not played ColoVista since it closed. After the big fire there I thought for sure the course was gone. But I was pleasantly surprised that it was almost a good as before. The course was untouched by the fire and the views remain majestic as before. It was a hot day but the refreshing breezes in this part of the hill country made things feel really great. ColoVista is back!
Terrific golf experience
There is nothing wrong with this course that a little rain would not fix. The fairways are in good condition and the greens are fast and run true.
Three of my foursome had never played there and they were all pleasantly surprised and want to go back. The links/parkland combination and the changes in elevation are wonderful.
THIS COUIRSE NEEDS A LITTLE WORK
SEVERAL BUNKERS ARE STILL GROUND UNDER REPAIR AND HAVE BEEN FOR LONG TIME. GREENS ARE IN FANTASTIC SHAPE.
Colovista Hidden Gem
Played the course for years before it closed and I was excited to see it reopened. Greens and course were in great shape. And the views were beautiful. Had to go off the back nine because of seniors skin games. So get there before nine or you will have a long wait. They will not let you pass and super slow. I strongly suggest you play Colovista. Great value and challenging course.
Great course
One of the best courses I have played! The greens are very good. A nice little challenging course. D
Great fun !!!
Felt like a private course. Played in the afternoon and had the course to ourselves. Very open but fair course. Greens were hard and did not stick but rolled very well. Variety of holes allowed me to use every club in my bag. Great fun and will play again many times. No Marshall on the course and Grill was not open.
Great Course
This is a great hill country course and a great value. We drove 60 miles to play this venue and will do it again. The back nine really gets your attention with some spectacular holes.
Corse management
We had a 10:00 am Tee time and did not get off till after 10:30. Even though we had a tee time it was first come first off no starter. We got stuck behind a really slow fivesome who would not let us play through and no marshall to speed things up. After 4 holes there was an empty hole in front of them
