Needing some love.
Cottonwood is a very good layout, but seems to have fallen on tough times. It may be that things will be better as spring comes. I hope that is the case because it could be a very good option.
Very nice layout
Greens were in good shape. When wet the clay sticks to ball and clubs too much. I would not know how to correct this other than making sure there is plenty of soapy water in ball washers. When course is dry it is a great course to play.
Excellent shape
Course in really good shape. This extended drier weather has really helped. Tackled the blue tees!
Great shape
With some extended dry weather the course has firmed up nicely and is playing very well. Playing from the blues definitely ups the challenge.
Great value and fun course.
The course was better than I was expecting. Greens rolled smooth and fairways were great. Enjoyed not having to hunt for balls and trees made shot positioning important. We will play again.
Great layout, great value!
Wish they would move the water hazards, they always seem to be where my ball lands...lol. Course playing a little soggy at the moment. Definitely a lift, clean, replace situation right now.
Worth playing
My experiences with Cottonwood go back nearly 30 years, through many ups, downs, and name changes. A terrific layout, it has always suffered from varying degrees of neglect, but never lost the potential to be a stunning golf venue.
This round confirmed that current owners are making a game effort to maintain the course at a satisfactory level. Fairways were smooth and uniformly playable. The rough was properly groomed, although weedy in some places. Sore spots included the greens - most had several, some times many, brown/dead spots detracting from appearance though affecting putting less than I expected. Another tell-tale sign of stretched maintenance budget is sand trap condition...most of the traps here contained nothing more than white/gray silt.
I'd love to see Cottonwood return to its early glory days. This is a $50-75 layout (outside of Montgomery Co, that is) but is currently falling about 30 bucks short.
Awesome course!
First, would give course conditions 3.5 stars at the moment. Sand traps definitely need to be softened and fluffed up. Clearly the greens are in recovery mode, but roll smooth and are very playable. Beyond that, it is a fantastic course. Great layout, challenging, and rewards taking rchances while providing consequences for not correctly executing those more risky shots. Do not get caught trying to play from the rough, it is brutal. Definitely looking forward to playing this course more.
Greens are in great shape
Greens are currently in great shape. High iron shots hold the green very well. There are a few places through out the course that should be marked as ground under repair. The club house isn't as nice as a few years ago but staff is friendly and helpful. I will being playing here often.
