River Place Country Club
About
River Place is finally established after years of financial problems that were resolved when Tom Kite and Roy Bechtol gave the facility new life with a redesign in the early 1990s. Located on the former Wilding Ranch between Lake Austin and Ranch Road 620, the Hill Country terrain is phenomenal, with a creek that dominates the front nine, and some dramatic slopes that never result in level lies.
The sloping is evident on No. 1, a 402-yard par 4 that requires a testy approach over a ravine from a downhill lie. No. 4 is tough because the creek rolls along the left side of the 561-yard hole before crossing in front of the green. And No. 7 is one of the toughest: a 430-yard doglegger that bends right around the creek.
The back side has a few ponds that come into play, but is void of the pesky creek. The one to watch for is No. 17, a 585-yard monster.
Getting there : From Loop 360, take Ranch Rd 2222 going west.. In about 5 miles you'll come to River Place Blvd. Make a left and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

Beautiful golf course and very professional and friendly staff
Very beautiful, challenging and exciting course that encourages a good game.
Beautiful Course
The course is set in the hill country. What a great lay out. I'm a mid 90's player and this course is just a little too difficult for my level but I'd still go back!
OK
I was not told course had Tee Boxes under construction as well as some cart paths. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. Difficult course for the average golfer. Well maintained and attractive.
Incredibly beautiful and equally challenging!
Talk to the staff before playing...several holes have drastic elevation shifts that can result in a normally accurate drive/hit bouncing into the rough. Narrow fairways, lots of hazards - bring lots of balls! Very fun course, you haven't played until you have played River Place.
Great course, poor attitude, slow play
Upon arrival at the course, each of our players was told that the price we were charged was too low, but golf shop would bill GolfNow. We were charged more than indicated by GolfNow. Pro had ATTITUDE. We arrived an hour before our tee time and were told that we would follow 5 foursomes playing a best ball scramble. We asked to go ahead but were told no. There were no immediate players ahead of the scramble but we were told we still have to follow them. After 4 hours we had completed 11 holes. No Marshall, no fast play. We left. Now pro shop can rejoice in that we got what we paid for. Too many other great Austin courses available at good values with friendly atmospheres.
Challenge
Excellent course....tough, fair. I wouldn't pay over 50 bucks to play there though. Pace of play was a little slow, found over 30 golf balls waiting to hit next shot.
Hill Country golf at its Finest!!!
If you get a chance to play this course, do it!!! You shouldn't be disappointed. We played here on Sunday 05/26 and had an awesome time. The area had recvd lots of rain the past several days which helped with the speed of the greens and caused us to be cart path only. The only issue we had on the course was some of the bunkers needed attention and there were some areas that needed to be mowed, both probably due to recent rain. However, there was very little standing water on the course itself. This course is truly in pristine condition; kudos to the grounds keepers. If you like drastic elevation changes, scenic views, and have a "go for it" type attitude you have to play this course.....it is fun to say the least. I was kind of nervous playing this course only because I had read some reviews about a rude employee in the pro shop, luckily we didn't encounter anyone like that. The staff we met were pretty nice, but it is a country club after all.
Challenging course, not long, but tight and hilly. In excellent condition, although tee maintenance moved several tees up. Definite replay.
Course was in excellent shape, especially greens and fairways. Would rate it prestine, but alternate/forward tees were used on many holes to help with tee maintenance. Very tricky course and tight on many holes. Need to know where to miss. Not long, but challenging with many uphill shots to greens making it play much longer than marked. Great staff offering earlier tee time when available and facilitating fast play. Bring plenty of balls and check score card for each hole to see challenge of every shot.
Beautiful terrain, beautiful fairways
Played this course on a visit to Austin and it was well worth hauling my clubs through the airport. The fairways were in great shape, like rolling green carpet. The greens were technically under an aeration warning but the ball rolled true, although slowly. The course is really a country club but allows non-members to play once a month through Golfnow. The staff was super friendly and range balls were free as was coffee.
beautiful course in the canyons !!! fast greens
Awesome course I would not the recommend to a high handicap but a fifteen or lower a great and challenging course staff was great !!!!club and shot selection very very important .
Fun and very beautiful views. Challenging course
Fun and very beautiful views. Challenging course, will play again
Great time
The course was excellent! Had a blast playing it. The only thing that needs attention are the bunks. The traps that I managed to get into weren't so much sand as they were dirt.... The traps I managed to stay out of looked a lot better so it was probably isolated issues that they are currently dealing with.
I'd give the place a solid 8.9 and well worth the $69 golfnow deal that I purchased through.
Beautiful Course
This course was in a beautiful location looking over all of Austin. It was not too difficult but some fairways were pretty narrow at times. Other than that, I had a perfect day of golf and would go back there anytime!
A quality golf course!
Plan and simple.....this is one of the best courses in Austin, in
Texas and the entire southwest. Reminds me of Apple Roock and
Ram Rock in Horse Shoe Bay. Fun to play with majestic views.
This is a second shot golf course with a premium on distance
control. Super nice people are anxious to attend to your every
need. Tom Kite did a superb job!
The vistas are great
Played by myself. You need someone who has played the course to help out on many holes. Course is beautiful and tough. I will play again.
Not enough space for the course
There are too many severe slopes and drop offs due to not enough space. They did a good job with what they had but I would refer to the course as "tricked up" and would not likely play it again.
Beufiful Course
Course was in great shape and very challenging. A shot makers course. Would definetly play it again. Play was a little slow due to being behind 2 very slow players but the views were so incredible, I didn't mind.
Beautiful and very challenging from the back tees
Excellent facilities with above average difficulty from the back tees. Beautiful course and very good conditioning
Best value for a beautiful course
The course was very challenging with several different depths. Nestled in a mountain like area with great views of Austin. The greens and fairways were kept up very well. Lots of strategy in play due to blind spots. If it were my choice, I wouldn't golf anywhere else within the area... best kept secret!
FAIRWAYS LIKE HEB PARKING LOT
I've played here many times and I can't remember the fairways being so hard. This course can be very difficult but when the fairways allow the ball to rollllllllll, who knows where your ball will end up. A shot dead solid perfect will end up in a creek or worse because of it. The greens were fine, and the view is spectacular, but I'd wait a while to play here.
