Pine Forest Golf Club
About
Built by Don January in 1979, Pine Forest Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas provides a true golf adventure through sneaky elevation changes and red bluffs, with blind tee shots and holes along the Colorado River. No. 3 is a picturesque par 3, playing 170 yards downhill, with a green framed by the red bluffs. On no. 6, keep the tee shot right to avoid a blind second shot, and watch out for the tough, two-tiered green. The seventh hole plays along the Colorado, and is protected by a massive cottonwood tree on the left. On the back, make note that the highest point on the course is the 11th green. For the home stretch, make the most of the two downhill par 3s. No. 12 plays 180 yards and you'll need to leave it below the hole. The 16th hole is longer at 225 yards and is protected by a beautiful oak tree on the left.

Course conditions
This course is currently in terrible shape. The greens are awful and the fairways are pretty poor. I used to play this course years ago and it was great, but those days are in the past.
Could Be a Gem
I played this course 15 years ago and it was immaculate. Since then the property has really gone downhill. The greens are a combination of mud, ant mounds, dead spots, and dead grass. It is virtually impossible to put on 14 of the 18 greens.
We were told the new owner is going to spend a lot of money fixing it up and that would be wonderful because this could be a gem of Central Texas. The holes wind through the forest with the Colorado river on about six or seven of the holes and it’s just beautiful. It just needs some tender loving care and money to bring it back up to playable conditions.
They could charge double what they are currently charging if they would just fix it up.
The course has a great lay out. They just need to put money into the course. The fairways were muddy, with standing water. The greens, were like putting in the rough. The course could be a great one, with the lay out. The course has elevations, which are fun, and challenging.
First Time
The staff was friendly and helpful. I played early morning with my 11yr old son but they got must of their traffic mud-morning. The The staff was friendly and helpful. I played early evening and was surprised to see the heavy traffic on the course. TheiR rates are very affordable nor beginners like your son. The marshal worked the course and was friendly. The course was fairly nice. There were several holes with a lot of trees. There were some sand and water hazards as well. The greens had a few bad spots on them and it looked like nobody fixed their ball marks. There were a couple of really interesting holes on the course - one had a tee high up on a hill.
I'll probably go back more often for the price and pace.
Fun course to play
Feels you’re on vacation playing between houses and trees
Not worth it
The greens had ant hills and weeds throughout. The fairways had puddles and mud everywhere. Do I need to go any further?
Terrible
We drive 87 miles to play because of the layout, challenge and beauty of the course. What a shame. The last time we played nothing was mowed; tees, fairways or greens. That was after several days of rain so we thought it was justified. This time the tees were not mowed, part of the fairways were mowed, and the greens were so slow you could not get a 25 foot putt to the hole. No weed control anywhere, crabgrass terrible on the front nine and somewhat better on the back nine. Dead spots on both the fairways and greens.
We play 15 or so courses in Central Texas and while this is one my favorite courses, it will be a long time before we are back.
Great value!!
Course in pretty good shape, layout is fantastic with deer everywhere, views are great and it's worth the money!
Terrible greens
The greens are in terrible Condition. Crab grass, bare spots, uncut greens, and not well maintained.
Fairways are decent and the course layout is great but something has to be done about the greens.
Awesome
Beautiful picturesque course. Most greens were well maintained but a little slow. Based on previous course was well kept. Highly reccommend!
Great layout, slow greens
This course is on a wonderful piece of property - nice variety of holes and a friendly, helpful staff. However, the green quality was irregular and they were very slow.. There is no greens staff on the weekends, so they had not been mowed (I played on Sunday afternoon). I enjoyed the layout enough that I would go back during the week to give the course another try.
Nice scenery and layout
1st time playing the course and i enjoyed it. Yes the greens need a lil work but the layout is awesome. Views onthe holes n playing next to the river was excellent. Will be back
No thank you
The course is rubbish and the staff is quite odd and aggressive. Me and my mates will never meet at pine forest again for a round of golf.
Good value
Greens in good shape, slow but fair, tee boxes rough shape, fairways good and staff very accommodating, recommended!
