ShadowGlen Golf Club
About
Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Golfer Reviews
Joe
The starter, Joe is as amazing as they come. Very friendly, outgoing and as personable as they come. Always greets us with a smile, a handshake or hug. Awesome guy. The course was in great shape as well.
Disappointing day. Expensive round. Terrible pace (6 hours)
Arrived at the course 35 min before tee time to be told that they have no more carts and other groups will need to finish before we can get a cart.
Range balls were not included in the $100 round and the driving range was terrible and basically just straight sand.
Fairways were basically short rough. I wouldn’t even call it fairways but the greens were pretty solid.
Very poor course management. Had a bachelor party infront of us. 20 min per hole pace. Finished 9 after 2 hrs & 30 min.
Told the marshal but it didn’t do anything. Lady at the halfway house decided to add her own tip and sign for the transaction. When I called her out on it she acted like she couldn’t speak English.
Left on hole 16 after 5 hrs and 20 min. On pace for a 6 hour round.
Course wouldn’t refund and only offered a credit. Won’t be back
Awesome course rough greens
This is an awesome layout but conditions of the greens currently is not good. Greens are bumpy, slow, and inconsistent.
Friendly staff and a challenging course.
The staff were very friendly.
Although the fairways and greens weren't in great condition due to the hot weather,
they were decent enough.
The course was challenging.
I've played this course on and off for years, and while the course itself and the layout has always been enjoyable, the biggest improvement recently has been the management and customer experience. To be fair, there have always been some great people here and Jac and the cart girls have consistently been top-notch and are a big reason I've kept coming back.
A few years ago, though, the operation just felt disorganized. I can remember multiple times calling ahead to make sure the range was open, driving out, and finding it closed. There were also times when basic questions about course conditions or policies couldn't be answered in the pro shop. I was even scolded by a marshal for driving off the cart path on a day that was apparently cart-path-only, despite nobody mentioning it at check-in or there not being a single sign other than on the front door of building which many people don't use. It wasn't one major issue it was a lot of little things that made it seem like communication and service weren't priorities. As a customer, it often seemed like the person behind the counter was more interested in scrolling Instagram than helping golfers or staying on top of what was happening around the facility. Whether that perception was fair or not, it contributed to an atmosphere that felt disengaged and poorly managed.
Today, the difference is obvious. The course now has a full team that is engaged, professional, and committed to running the facility the right way. It feels like a true management team is in place instead of trying to have a golf instructor serve as a general manager. The result is a much smoother and more enjoyable experience. The new carts are another great example of the investment being made in the facility. They really elevate the overall experience and give the course a much more premium feel from the moment you head to the first tee.
I also want to make it clear that I'm talking about management, not ownership. Grant has always cared about this course, invested in it, and worked to improve it. As the owner, he's built something special here and has remained committed to making the facility better year after year. He's also a true American patriot, and the positive changes taking place today are exactly the kind of progress longtime customers like me have hoped to see.
Great Course
It is a very nice course, friendly staff. I was just unfortunate to meet a group of 4 who were not courteous enough to play me through and later found they worked at the course, so not a very good customer friendly thing to do.
Challenging design yet playable with a fast pace of play
Challenging design yet playable with a fast pace of play
The fairways were in really good condition and the bunkers as well. The greens were too slow IMHO but in good condition as well. I played with 3 guys who were beyond fun!
Fun course
Course was in great condition, much better than last summer. Some challenging holes but easier par 3s give a nice break.
