Pine Forest Golf Club
About
Built by Don January in 1979, Pine Forest Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas provides a true golf adventure through sneaky elevation changes and red bluffs, with blind tee shots and holes along the Colorado River. No. 3 is a picturesque par 3, playing 170 yards downhill, with a green framed by the red bluffs. On no. 6, keep the tee shot right to avoid a blind second shot, and watch out for the tough, two-tiered green. The seventh hole plays along the Colorado, and is protected by a massive cottonwood tree on the left. On the back, make note that the highest point on the course is the 11th green. For the home stretch, make the most of the two downhill par 3s. No. 12 plays 180 yards and you'll need to leave it below the hole. The 16th hole is longer at 225 yards and is protected by a beautiful oak tree on the left.

Great shape!
Greens are really great shape, fairways good and layout is excellent, lady behind counter was rude but definitely recommend this course!!
No management this course
It looks like a good course in terms of course layout.
However, it is not managed well. Some fairways don't have grass and bunks remained with natural soil. Greens do not manage at all. You can find soil in the green easily.
Great Shape!!
Greens are in excellent shape, fairways really good for this time of year, can't beat the value, definitely recommend!!
Course
We did not use the clubhouse amenities only the golf. This place could be a treasure IF they would mow the F’N greens (terrible) ! Fill in the holes in the fairways! T boxes need help ! Other than that it’s a senic 4 hrs!!!
Excellent greens
The greens are really good. Fast, true and in a great shape. Good free keeping. The layout is interesting.. For my taste a lil too much blind tee shots. If you’re straight you’ll find them all.
Could be great
Could be a great course. Fairways are mostly mowed native grasses. Don’t waste time reading greens. Just hit it firm at the hole and hope it takes the right bounces off the crab grass and ant mounds.
Fun course
Great layout , cheap beers, challenging lies and lots of elevation change.
Greens need some help and lots of ant mounds that your balls run into.
Once the greens are taken care of it’ll be a 5 stars for sure.
Not bad for the price if you get a good deal on golf now
Cool course terrible management
Could be a really really nice course if they kept it in shape. The views are awesome but there is barely a fairway on most holes because they don’t cut or maintain the grass
Great value- friendly staff
Our group played here twice within 7 days. The first time we played the course was very dry aligned with an obvious drought in the area. Our second trip through on Friday had saturated conditions making the play very different. The greens need chemical intervention to stem crab grass intrusion. Rugged course. Friendly staff. Good food at the turn. No beverage cart. Overall good value both times.
Rough course
The course condition was terrible. Water everywhere mixed in with deadpan in and around fairways. Grwwns were unkept and furry.
Maintenance
Fairways are in need of desperate attention as are the greens. The roughs however are excellent! Fairways are full of giant potholes and dead patches. Greens are littered with crab grass( or some foreign grass) so when you putt and hit one it sends your ball flying off line making reading the green impossible. Played on a Saturday morning and the entire course was soaked. It hasn’t rained here in awhile and the fairway potholes were level full with water. Greens were so wet you left divers from just walking on them, if your ball hit the green on the fly it was buried in the ground, ball spin was a myth today. It has the potential for a great course just needs upkeep.
So much potential
This course has a very cool layout but is a total goat track. They were the worst greens I've ever played on and most of the Fairway grass isn't even Golf Course grass. Once I got done with the front nine three people that live out there jumped in front of me and I had to wait 15 minutes to tee off on the 10th tee. I don't blame the golf course so much for that but it was still poor golf etiquette from people that live on a golf course.
