Enjoyed the Historic Course
Cannot beat winter golf on a historic course! Great price, incredible food, and a fun open course. Can't wait to be back!
Impressive Comeback — Great Value on GolfNow Hot Deals
When I first played Dothan National back in 2019, the course just wasn’t in good shape. The greens and fairways needed a lot of attention, and overall it felt neglected. I remember leaving thinking it had a lot of potential, but it just wasn’t there yet.
Fast forward to now, and the improvement is remarkable. Over the past six months, you can clearly see how much effort has gone into bringing this course back. The greens are rolling much better, the fairways have really filled in, and you constantly see maintenance crews out working. Whoever is managing it now deserves credit for the turnaround.
I usually book through GolfNow Hot Deals, paying between $17.99 and $23 for 18 holes with a cart, and for that price, it’s absolutely worth it. The staff is friendly, the carts are gas, and the clubhouse and food have always been solid.
It’s still a work in progress, but it’s become a fun and enjoyable local course again — one I’ll continue to support as long as they keep moving in this direction.
Great course to play
Over the years we have played this course. It is a challenging course. They have made some good improvements. We had not played there in a while but this time the course and greens were in great condition.
Played many times
We have played many times here. It has been about a year and a half since we played. They have made many improvements and the greens and fairways were in great shape. We won’t wait so long to play here again.
Pleasantly suprises
We had played there over a year ago and the greens were pretty bad. This time the greens were very good and the course was in great shape. They have made some cart path improvements. We will play it again soon.
Dothan National, Aug 2025
Staff were very helpful, friendly and professional. Nice course layout, but due to recent heavy rains, course conditions were not optimal. Some greens were in bad shape and long, as well as some wet areas still on the course. All in all, decent for the price.
Much improved greens
Course was still a work in progress but greens were much improved. Glen was friendly and a pleasure to speak with.

Has potential but not taken care of
Liked the layout but the greens and tee boxes were terrible. No difference in grass height between tee boxes, fairway and rough. About 3/18 greens looked decent, others were the worst I’ve ever seen.
Greens getting a lot better
Groundskeeper has been doing really good on improving the greens. Sand traps are still lacking and not sure how to improve that without bringing in new sand.
It is slowly improving
Until this year, I hadn't played Dothan Natiknal in over 5 years because it had gotten in such an undesirable condition. Many greens were basically dirt, sand, a fungus. The fairways were so hard and bare that you couldn't usd a normal golf swing.
I don't know if they made a change in Maintenance Director or what, but the greens are massively improved and the fairways have enough " grass" to swing normally and get an expected ball flight.
Now I am not saying it is worth $40+ for a round, but for $28 or less, it is a good enough of a deal.
Great layout! But in desperate need of some TLC on the greens. Simply mowing and cutting the cups would be a nice start.
Great lay out
Course design is good - course condition was poor. Greens needed mowing, cups hadn’t been cut in days.
Course is improving
I played this course because I got a really good deal through golf now. When I went online at the last minute to book the round, it appeared as though it would be pretty empty at the course because almost every time slot was available. However, when I got to the course, it was quite a bit more busy than expected. There must be a lot of walk up people who just so up to play rather than booking online so keep that in mind. Because of that I was behind a 4 some of newer players who were dreadfully slow. Don't mind people learning to play the game, just would like them to learn to play a little faster. On the course conditions I would say at the moment they are average for a course of this price range. The greens were furry and slow. It looks like they are working on getting the grass to grow in and had not cut or rolled the greens in a while. Having said that, most of the greens did look pretty good. A couple of them had some rough areas still but overall they were filled in and when they are cut and rolled, should be very good to play. Most of the fairways were is decent condition with only a few being pretty rough and sparse. On those few fairways I would say just make an agreement among friends before your round to allow finding a patch of grass to move to and hit from, otherwise you might be hitting off of dirt. Would I play here again? Yes, but only if I could get a good price again. I don't think it would be worth full price charged with the current conditions. The driving range is a bonus at this course however, as they have a self vending ball machine that you can use your debit card to access and the range has the top tracer technology for tracking your shots or playing games if you desire that. If you're just wanting to practice the range is great for that. They have a concession counter at the range as well, but it was not open at the time I went.
Not as good as it used to be
Evey year when we head down to the beach we always stay the night in dothan and I will play dothan national the next morning. I always thought it was a good value course and in good enough condition. This year it was in much worse conditions. Lots of dead grass on greens and they were fuzzier than chewbacca. Overall conditions were generally just worse than years prior. Going to have to spend the extra money and play RTJ next year. Hopefully this is a one off but I doubt it's going to be.
