Great setting Photo submitted by covers05 on 04/14/2013
Good Course for the Money
Course was in overall good shape. Looks like they're fighting some issues with some rogue grass coming in spotty on a few greens but from what I understand the new superintendent is on top of that. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Wouldn't mind seeing them flatten out a few of the tee boxes. Other than a few small issues and a less than impressive pro shop and facility, there's not much to complain about. I will definitely be back.
Ok golfer
The greens are in good condition but the sand traps need work. The traps are hard pack. The rough is really deep in spots. It's a plus to stay in the fairway.
Good coarse
Great layout and competitive. Golf carts are terrible, makes the game slow.
Good course for the money
Only paid $20 with a hot deal on golfnow.com. I can't complain. Wasn't the best course but overall it was a good value for the money. A few greens had weeds but overall it was a good course. Ill play again if I see it on hot deals.
I enjoyed my round very much. The course was in pretty good shape.
I loved the speed of the greens..quick, hard get the ball close to the hole. Require a soft touch, challenging.
Nice to visit, wouldn't go back.
Recent prior reviews were critical of course, can't disagree after playing with spouse on a Thursday morning. Was cheap ($25 green fee with cart per person), hope they make it, course could be a lot better but suspect it is tough to make a profit in the golf course business.
Like the physical design lay-out of the course, was surprised by gas powered carts, noisy.
Pace of play with foursome in front was painfully slow, playing through was not an option (a slower threesome in front of them), should have played in 3. 5 hours, actually played in 4.5.
Best feature - the grill. Our food was excellent.
Slow slow slow
They need a marshal. Quit after seeing the back up on 10. Would have been 6 hour round.
Copper Mill
Played Copper Mill for the first time on the Fourth of July. What a treat! I loved the 6 Par 3's, 4's, and 5's. The course is challenging, very different than other local courses and fun to play. Fairways were a little rough, but the greens were excellent. I'll play here again for sure.
What happened to Copper Mill?
I played CM about 5 years ago and played the best game of my life. The course has the potential to be one of the areas best, but unfortunately, it has caught "poor management" fever. We played this AM with a 9:30ish team time... it took 40 minutes to get to the 2nd tee box due to lack of a starter (critical with tee times going off every 8 minutes), no marshal to control pace of play (more critical than a starter), and people taking mulligans left and right. My foursome finished up at 3:10pm, and we watched a group of 3 and pair go home on the 14th.
Greens: thatchy. and overgrown.. they look fantastic, but roll slower than most public courses in the area. Definitely needs to be addressed and would probably speed up play.
Tee Boxes: Moved some of them myself because they haven't been moved in so long that it felt like we were hitting out of a bunker.
Fairways: The only thing that will get me back for another round (and the scenery). Although most of them look as if they got out of hand as there were clumps of dried up grass everywhere.
Bunkers: What bunkers? found a lot of pot holes with mud and drains in them.
I am not the debbie downer of golf and actually have fairly low standards (I play LSU and Webb quite frequently). CM needs to stop trying to make a quick buck and start caring about customers, or they'll close again. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that "when all tee times are booked, maybe we should put a starter out on the first tee box, and a grumpy ole man rolling around pushing people to play a bit faster" and/or limit groups of 5 to days whenever they aren't booked up.
Take it for what is worth.
Copper mill
The course has a very attractive layout and scenery. The fairways are very unforgiving, however the greens are in very good shape. Better bring your A game or a bag of golf balls!
Disappointed
CM sadly has turned into a goat ranch due to obvious lack of care and maintenance. Grass and course in general was not properly cut on every hole. Sad as i knew that the course was in great shape a few years back. Bunkers had no sand, greens were like a rock despite rain. enjoyed the day because of company, not the course.
Course is Ok
For the majority, everything is ok, BUT, I think the staff should advise the patrons of course conditions before they pay their money. The young lady didn't tell us it was carts on path until we had already paid. At least give people the option of deciding whether to play or cancel. Also, on the weekend, the tee times are booked too close together. It takes the average group of four approximately 12 minutes to complete a hole, but the tee times are being booked approximately 8 minutes apart, which means there's a traffic jam at every tee box from #1 to #18. We have stopped playing on weekend becuz of that. If you'd like more business, space tee times out & hire a couple of marshalls to keep pace of play going. The cart girls are awesome tho. Love me some Chelsey. (Sorry if I misspelled her name)
Marshals needed...or a good Starter
If you want to play a good course, and aren't in a hurry, then this is a great course. I realize that there is a lot of competition between courses to get tee times, and that budgets are tight; but the pace of play at Copper Mill needs to be improved, or it'll be gone someday soon. The bottle necks on the course are inexcusable, because there are no Marshal's no move groups along. Copper Mill, if you're reading this, please do a better job at managing the golfers that are willing to play our course. Thanks!
Mill
Greens were in poor condition. Staff needs to work on customer service not well organized. Bev carts or more access to water needs to be a priority.
Very Nice!!
I really like the layout of the course. The greens hold approach shots well but also let you play to release the ball on long chips. You know when you're in the rough but it is not overdone to really handicap the average golfer and slow the pace of play. Lots of nice views and some areas of the course are very secluded, hard to tell you're right by the town of Zachary.
Greens in bad condition
I've played this course several times but the greens were never this bad. Good layout so I hope they can recover.
Course has great layout but greens need work
The GolfNow reservation was not honered. The 12:00 Tee time was already taken. The price GolfNow gave us was not honered by Coppermill. We had to make a new tee time at the course for a much higher price. The only thing taken was my $7:42 that you took off my card for this foney tee-time reservation. Don't bother to contact me ever again unlees you pay my money back.
Nice Course, Somewhat of a Challenge
Knowing that weather had been in the area the past week, the course overall was ok/good. The quality of the carts were lacking, but overall, enjoyed the course/round.
Always in good shape
Course is looking just fine. Greens are quite firm and medium-fast speed.
Longest holes
This is the perfect course if you want fast greens and long tee boxes. It will challenge every part of your golf game. When you miss the green, make sure to miss where there is small bits of fairway or you will lose all your balls. Perfect place for tournament play.
