Many great changes over last few years
Good condition after so many changes. Greens good, fairways good. They are still working hard on improvements.
Mehhh
Good course but I’ve played many times and it’s too much walking even in dry conditions . To much cart path only restrictions. My opinion is it’s a nice course but if you play full price you’ve gotten screwed compared to other courses for the price. For the price go to RTJ!
Hot Tee Time
I am a recent college grad who just moved to the area. Being able to play this course for ~$55 during a hot tee time was amazing. Great conditions and very friendly staff. Tough course too!
If I ever see this price again, consider me there.
Immaculate Greens
Got a golfnow deal to come play here. Fairways were nice enough for an Alabama course that hasnt got much rain. Greens had some of the nicest bentgrass I have ever played on, and I am from Michigan. Most greens are elevated with nice bunkers. Some beautiful views on holes. If you can get a deal, defintely come play here.
Great Tract But
This is a beautiful tract that finally has great greens. But it is in too small an area to ever go totally private unless somebody takes a huge monetary loss each year. So now they have jacked up the regular rates so high it will not get sufficient public patronage either. If they got the rates somewhere below 50 the parking lot would have a multitude of cars with tags from several outlying counties. So, I guess we play it once a year on hotdeals until the nice wealthy man spends the amount of money he is willing to so it stays open. Best bet is to play this hidden gem soon.
Very playable
I read some of the recent reviews and almost didn't go play because of it, but I decided to give it a try. I played here 10+ years ago and it was great, so I was having a tough time believing the recent reviews.
Turns out I made a good call to go play. Every single green was perfect. They are bent, and all rolled pure and held nicely as dry as the course was (have not had measurable rain in a week or two).
Issues I saw:
- Some of the fringes were burnt out, which happens, did it affect my score? No
- They did lose some of the back tee boxes, but the have pulled the sod and releveled the boxes and it looks like they are either going to re-sod or sprig them very soon. MOST of the tee boxes were in great shape.
- Most fairways were in great shape, there were some bare, burnt out areas but not enough to affect the rating of the conditions in my opinion.
- They have GPS in the carts with geo-fencing set up for for CPO in many places throughout the course. From what I could tell, they had this set up because cart traffic would further thin areas out and kill the grass, or the terrain was a tad too sketchy for the people to be driving on (there's decent undulation on some holes).
It was a slow day when I was there I only saw one other group all day. It is unbelievably quiet, no cars, no sirens, just the wind blowing through the trees and birds chirping. I think the pricing for the conditions is maybe a tad high, I think if they dropped it from $79 to $69 that would feel a little better to me. Otherwise, I enjoyed and will be back.
Absolute goat track, not worth the price at all.
I played limestone earlier in the year and conditions were rough to say the least. The course itself was a good challenge so I told myself I would come back later in the year once the weather had improved. Had high hopes coming back nearly 4 months later but the course had not recovered yet. Lovely dead spots and patches of hard pan littered the course. I want to say 9 holes not including the 4 par 3s we’re cart path only which was frustrating considering there was little to no warning by anyone working there about these holes. Forget playing the number one set of tees, every tee box was trashed having little to no grass on them and were covered in sand and or mud. Last but not least there was no starter and no care to keep pace of play moving along. I was able to fly through the front nine and went right to the 10th tee but then realized a foursome of very slow golfers had somehow hopped off the range on straight onto the back nine, nice! I payed around $85 to play and that was a hot deal somehow. This course shouldn’t cost more than $50 to play in the condition it’s in. Don’t play here unless it’s your very last resort and even then I’d still have a tough time recommending playing here.
Hidden Gem
A beautiful layout. Well thought out course design utilizing the beautiful Alabama countryside. Multiple tee selections to allow any level of golfer to play the course without to much trepidation. I highly recommend this course to anyone living or visiting the Birmingham area.
Great coast but can't drive on fairway even if it is dry .no fun when your handicap. Could let people drive on fairways
Love this course. Greens amazing. Fairways etc seem to be progressing. Would have been nice to know that it was cart path only due to overwatering for an upcoming tournament
Not worth the price of admission
Ive played here multiple times its alway like a ghost town...........If its the slightest bit wet,,,,its cart path only. They are now wanting $100 sorry boys the RTJ is so much less and many choices to play. I enjoy the course but not for $100 I'll take a hard pass......and gp to the RTJ for half the price............
