Established in 1908, the Great Southern Golf Club overlooks the Gulf of Mexico as the oldest golf course in Mississippi. That helps explain the course's peculiar greens.
In 1999, Great Southern Golf Club was renovated by Brian Curly, who took pains to keep Ross' square greens and still satisfy the USGA's specifications. The greens are minuscule, undulating and hump-backed with deep swales in the middle of some and wild, unexpected slopes in others.
No. 6, for example, is a 250-yard par-4, which appears easy enough, but there are big oaks on both sides of the fairways, a small, elevated green that slopes sharply left to right and bunkers left, front and behind.
Great Southern Golf Club measures 6,278 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 117 and a 69.7 USGA rating. The course features three sets of tees for different skill levels.

Discriminatory Practices Against Female Golfers
I participated in a 2 day tournament which stated 50% of the players handicap would be used..
After paying my $100 entry fee, it was decided 41 out of the 42 players would receive 50% of their handicap, I, being the only female player, would receive only 33%.
My handicap is established through GHIN at this golf course and I find this a blatant discrimination against female golfers. After contacting them to discuss why the difference for myself, I was told they would get back to me. As of today, I have never heard from them.
Looks like it should have cattle grazing
The tee boxes are aweful. The fairways looked like the rough and the greens looked like they should have been a fairway. The guy in the proshop got mad because I purchased my green fees through golfnow. Not a good experience. Shot an 82. Should have been better.

The Pebble Beach of Mississippi!!! Yes, you can see the ocean from a few of the holes. Why not a high priced green fee? ... greens from 1908 (long grass and slow). They should redo the greens to fit today’s standards... more golfers would play here! Great location. Many holes designed well to incorporate trees and water hazards on the property.
Oldest course in the state and one of the oldest 25 golf courses in the USA!
Cow Pasture
Worst course I have ever played. Tee box not even close to being level and if you do find a decent spot its loose sand. Cant tell the difference between fairway and rough or another hole's fairway. Fairways were really thin to bald. The greens were the best part of the course even though not one green played the same as the last, some dead spots but all in all greens were good.
Good Shape
The course was in very good shape. Best I’ve seen the greens all year.
"Winter" shape. Very little grass. Bumpy greens
I visited and played last year. I remember the course being in better shape last year. No difference between tee boxes, fairways, and "rough". Everything was "rough". I will not play again during my visit. As always, you get what you pay for. Inexpensive price equals marginal conditions. Thanks You.
Great golf and friendly staff
We golf this course every year we come down here and this year it's in great shape for this time of the year it's our go to course for price and play.
Close to the ocean
The course is located across the street from the ocean and probably gets a fair amount of wind daily. The tee boxes are pretty bare right now, the fairways are sparse and the greens are pretty rough. It was very difficult to get a putt to roll straight. Maybe the course is in better condition in the summer?
Southern Hospitality at its best
Very friendly and helpful staff. Course in good shape considering it was winter time. Very easy Trac. Back nine gave you more of a test. Great value. Greens ran true. Fairways were a bit thin. Tee boxes need some improvements. Pace play was fantastic.3 hour round for wifey and I. A must play Cheers!,!
Narrow fairways
Small greens,but in excellent condition
Great value
Great course for the price. Friendly staff .. wide open especially the back 9 fairways are fine and greens in great shape. I enjoyed my round eve getting a picture of one o the few coyotes on the course. Very good experience. I hope the weather cooperates so I can get back there soon.
Agree with other reviewers
Staff are extremely friendly. Some fairways were more akin to bunkers. Greens were a mix of sand and crabgrass & really slow (for once in America!).
Most of the front 8 holes have an ocean view.
This is one of my favorite courses in Biloxi, MS. Maybe not the nicest course, but the views of the ocean are worth the cost of the green fee. It's a fairly open course with some challenging holes. Greens are a little rough, but not hard to two putt - one putt if you're a great putter. It is a course that i always like to play when visiting Biloxi.
Not Great
Golf now should be embarrassed by even allowing this “worse than a dogtrack” course to sell tee times. Do you have any minimum standards?? We played 4 holes and then walked off the golf course, the reason we played 4 was simple, that was when the green was relatively close to the club house. This may have been a great course 100 years ago, but like most people are dead after 100, this course is also dead. What a piece of trash..
Great southern
Great Southern is a great price Golf Course is not Immaculate condition but it's a good course for the price
