#9 green, right in front of the clubhouse was by far the best conditioned of the day! Photo submitted by u547358672 on 03/15/2023

Great Shape
Entire course is in great shape from tee boxes to fairway to greens. Highly recommended!
Looking forward to my next visit
Was in Austin for business and had an opportunity to play this course. Was paired up with a really nice local couple who provided lots of feedback on course layout etc. which was helpful. Course in excellent condition overall with fairways and greens in good shape (a few of the fairways did have some damage but my playing partner said it was due to armadillos!).
We were started on the back, which I never like (but that's just me) but once I settled in I really enjoyed the round. I played from the blue tees and found the course challenging but fair. As a fader of the ball I enjoyed the dogleg rights and even the dogleg lefts provided me with opportunity to go over the trees!
The staff were super friendly, from pro shop to starter to staff in the restaurant. And my post round lunch was really tasty, got a nice grilled chicken sandwich and my request for a wrap vs a bun was happily accommodated.
All in all this was a wonderful experience and I look forward to playing here again on my next visit to Austin.
Solid Muni!
Where to park was confusing. Not sure to bring clubs with or park then bring cart out. It was a good overall experience. It was a family feeling place with all ages on the driving range. Like most munis, it looks like they either need a bigger budget or more people who care more. TLC would go a long way in the surrounds of clubhouse.
We joined up with a lady for the back 9 who was a member and she enhanced the day in a way we couldn’t put a price tag on!! Thanks Edie!!
Great Day Out
I play this course several times a week as a relatively new golfer. It’s clean, green, and better maintained than some of the others in the area, I have no complaints.
Pace this day was a little slower, but that’s not what I find to be the norm. Staff friendly, food is good, and it’s easy to book.
Hard to believe this is a city-owned municipal course
This is an excellent challenging course kept in great condition. I couldn't believe that this is a municipal course. The layout was difficult and I felt myself being tested on almost every hole. Pace of play was incredible, I can't remember the last time I finished a round of golf in 4 hours and in a foursome to boot.
This course is definitely worth playing once in awhile and I'll happily pay the high greens fee to play it.
Great course, great conditions and close to downtown
Really enjoyed playing this course. The whole course is beautiful and is a fun one to play. Will come back for sure!
Excellent condition
Grey rock golf course is very well maintained and both fairway and greens were in excellent condition. The course is challenging enough and has a good mix of holes.
Breezy Afternoon
Played late on a Tuesday. It was warm and windy. We didn’t have time to use the range or practice greens. The range is large with mats.
The clubhouse was undergoing renovations, so there was a trailer at the far side of the range. It was a bit of a hike there from the parking lot and back to the cart staging area.
The course is OK. Fairly wide fairways with some trees and hill country rough. Greens were pretty good, but ran a bit slow. Routing was pretty flat, but had some good dogleg holes. Saw the drink cart 3 times on the day.
Overall, Grey Rock is a good course and a fair value. Worth a try if you are in the Austin area.
The entire experience was hampered by the miserably unhappy and quite frankly mean person who ran the pro shop. He made zero eye contact, extremely rude and unhelpful. And seemed to go out of his way to not help. I have never before witnessed such unprofessionallism. And it was not just me, my adult son witnessed the same behavior. We almost missed our tee time as this person did not give us the keys to the carts, and when we walked back, literally threw them on the table without eye contact. When I asked him for the keys, he literally said, “chill dude”. Fire him!! He opened the pro shop at 6:45 am on 5/12/2025. Had a black beard.
Great round on a well maintained course
Had a great round at Grey Rock. The course is in great shape and worth the price. Not overly crowded.
Always a good time
Well maintained course, greens are fantastic and great to see the greens keepers on top of any minor issues. Looking forward to the new clubhouse opening in May.
