Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club offers the traditional links course reminiscent of those found in the British Isles, situated amidst Virginia's horse country. The club gets its name from the land's former use, a raspberry field. The scenic terrain overlooks to Catoctin Mountains and there are still a few raspberry bushes dotting the course. By far the layout's most formidable challenges come from the deep, stacked pot bunkers that make it truly feel like a classic Scottish golf course. There are also water hazards on a few holes. The course's signature is the par-4 third hole, which is long but plays downhill all the way. The 10th hole, another par 4, is one of the toughest. The landing area is generous off the tee but there is a creek and pond to the left and fairway bunkers on the right.

Complete Rip Off

Charging $100+ for this course is truly a slap in the face. Greens are overgrown and trashed, they do not play true and you’ll be second guessing reads all day. There legitimately wasn’t a single playable bunker, we had to pull our balls out of either mud or water in every one. Overwhelming amount of decaying spots in fairways (half of balls hit in fairway will land in unplayable lies) and rough that’s more overgrown than Bethpage on Sunday at the PGA Championship define this course. If you you are considering either paying the outrageous greens fees or driving from the city to play this course please think again. I’ve played $30 municipal courses that are 5x better than the conditions at this place. I realize that bad rain and weather can affect the conditions but how about investing some of the $100 price into the drainage and course Superintendent. Incredible rip off. Stay away!

You do realize 7 inches of rain fell in 2 hours the day before. Name me one public course in the DMV area that would not have washed out bunkers after 7 inches of rain in 2 hours.

Did not Pluck a Raspberry

Really enjoyed playing the course. It was hot but they did have a cart person. They also supplied a cool towel, great touch. I would play again. Yes they were wearing mask and being safe.

Still in the “hurt locker”

We played once last year and the course was the worst I’ve ever seen it since it was growing in. I’ve played this course since before the public was allowed to play it and its is a shame what they have done to it over the last 1-2 years. We figured we’d check it out since they were charging full rate (it must be ok then, right?). Well, it’s not. It’s slightly better than last year, but a far cry from being a full rate close. Fairways are burnt, greens have some sort of fungus, and bunkers might be the worst I’ve ever SEEN. The only positive was pace of play actually was nice.

If you’ve paid over $60 for a round then you’re a sucker that’s over paying for its reputation a few years ago. If you did pay the $100+, demand a refund! Public courses are dwindling in the area, but you can find a course in better shape not too far away.

Nice course in really good condition. Greens had a lot of ball marks, but that’s probably the result of a ton of play. I liked the layout. A lot of interesting holes and variety. The biggest issue was the pace of play. We teed off at 4 pm on a Sunday afternoon. We were a threesome and played through a few groups (although doing so didn’t really make sense). We waited on every shot all day long. Multiple holes had several groups waiting to hit their tee shots. The wait to tee off on 18 was 20 minutes. We finished in the dark around 8:40 but only because multiple groups just gave up towards the end and choose not to finish. Had it been a bit earlier in the day and if we didn’t play through, it would have been well over 5 hours. I know everyone is itching to get out of the house and all courses are really busy these days, but we never saw a ranger trying to push things along. A greens fee of $100 at 4pm and a 5+ hour pace/waiting on every shot hurt the experience on what is otherwise a really nice course. Practice facility/driving range was great—big chipping area, grass range.

Greens Outstanding!!!

Greens the best I have seen in over a year. Fairways in good shape. Rough still a little patchy otherwise would give it 5 stars. COVID-19 measures were outstanding!

Course is in Geat condition

Always a fun course to play. Staff made experience great and very organized even with new COVID mitigation’s in place. The course is in very nice condition especially the greens. The starter told us the greens were hard and fast when arrived, he wasn’t exaggerating.

Noticeable Improvement

I last played this course about 18 months ago before the renovations were completed on many of the bunkers. The work they have done on holes 1, 10, and others is impressive and looks fantastic!

The overall condition of the course is good right now with good fairway grass and greens that have just a few bare spots but otherwise roll very nicely. Tee boxes and bunker sand likewise is what you'd expect for the rate you're paying.

What's not so good is the rough in many spots. While it's lush and even on several holes, many others offer very clumpy rough that can leave you a rather unfair lie. The inconsistency can take away from an otherwise great round, so I hope they can address this soon. It might be a nitpick, but this course charges over $100, so I think that's warranted.

In terms of layout, this course has SEVERAL of my favorite holes in all of golf, including the towering elevated tee shot on #3, the great risk-reward par-5 4th, the dangerous par-3 7th, the confidence-boosting par-5 11th, and the epic, awesome par-5 18th.

The staff here is very friendly and they're good about setting you up well for your round but the absence of a marshal on the course was painfully apparent and even at a 5-hour pace, the course allegedly balked at calls for help from the group in front of us. a 5-10 minute wait on every tee box is not what you want when you are spending this much to play.

Pace of play and clumpy rough aside, this is a great course with fun to be had on nearly every hole and beauty to behold as well. Very happy with the improvements they've made so far, hope more will continue to make it worth the 2.5 hour drive again!
