Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club
About
Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club offers the traditional links course reminiscent of those found in the British Isles, situated amidst Virginia's horse country. The club gets its name from the land's former use, a raspberry field. The scenic terrain overlooks to Catoctin Mountains and there are still a few raspberry bushes dotting the course. By far the layout's most formidable challenges come from the deep, stacked pot bunkers that make it truly feel like a classic Scottish golf course. There are also water hazards on a few holes. The course's signature is the par-4 third hole, which is long but plays downhill all the way. The 10th hole, another par 4, is one of the toughest. The landing area is generous off the tee but there is a creek and pond to the left and fairway bunkers on the right.

Much Improved!
We returned to Raspberry Falls after a poor experience back in July and it was amazing. Course conditions improved 100% and was obvious to us that they have really steeped up the maintenance program. The course is certainly challenging but fair. Clubhouse is really nice and lots of food and drink alternatives. Go play and enjoy it!!
Making a Comeback From August 2019
What a difference a few months make! Greens are much better and run true. Fairways coming back. Come next spring this course will be fully recovered. This goes for all golf courses - why are people so lazy to fix their ball marks? It takes 5 seconds. No matter what course I play I end up fixing 3 ball marks on every green. Fortunately I didn't have to fix many ball marks at Raspberry other than my own.
Nice track
Very friendly and helpful staff, and a nice course layout.
There were a few tee boxes and greens in need of attention/repair.
Course conditions not so good
What a great layout. If there was a playable golf course here I would head back tomorrow.
This course is severely lacking acceptable maintenance. Tee boxes, greens and fairways all all in poor condition. The course is extremely wet as well.
Unfortunately this course shows what plagues many courses today...poor greens keeping practices.
There really isn’t any reason why this course shouldn’t be in the top 10 courses in NVA...except it isn’t simply due to unacceptable playing conditions.
Too bad because it truly is a beautiful layout. Not worth the 42 buck a round. Not even close.
Needs some TLC
This great course has fallen on hard times. The course is now in poor shape, with rough patches and bold spot on most fairways. The greens were good, but a number of tee boxes were not
Slow slow and slow
The coursé suffer a hard summer most hole are cart tpath only and even with that some hole was 4 group waiting on a Monday
I call the club house but nothing happened
Worst round so far
Design is great but not worth the ride from Maryland
Great and beautiful course
Haven't played this course for a while and was surprised by how soft the turf has gotten. Needs maintenance but actually needs a week or two untouched to take root and grow. It's so fresh I was leaving perfect dollar bill size strips off the fairway with no effort. Stunning views and challenging worth the price if you get a deal.
Hoodwinked
This course used to be my favorite in the area to play. As a former club professional, I can remember playing it before it was even open to the public. The layout is great, the conditions were superb, and the experience was one we always remembered (for good reasons). Those days are long gone! Over the past year, or so, the conditions and quality of experience have gone down dramatically. I was embarrassed that last Sunday when I invited a friend to play (and he even insisted on paying for my round as well!) and we were confronted with the conditions at the present. The fact that we received a $25 gift card (which we'll have to use at the club, or maybe one of the other affiliates) did not make a difference. The fee should have been $25, not the $89 robbery..we were a captive customer at this point and had to take our chances. I will not play this course again until MANY reviews confirm the improvement of the conditions nor will I recommend it to anyone. As it stands right now, this should be a frisbee golf course and nothing more.
Public Golf in DC May be Dead..
When one of the probably 3 best public golf courses in the DC area, Raspberry Falls, looks so horrible, maybe there is something deeper going on. Hope not, but Raspberry Falls is gone. It looks like they have basically given up and shut it down for year - but didn’t tell the customer. It’s not that the fairways and most of the tee boxes are burned out. There appears to be no maintenance going on whatsoever. Sand traps, cart paths, divots, you name it. The place has gone to seed. Raspberry used to be a spot we looked forward to playing. It was a high end and comfortable place. You would actually stick around and have lunch. Not today. Not a lot has changed and in a bad way. Even the men’s room is tired. Same wallpaper, same furniture, ...the place is tired and looks like it’s in decline. I didn’t see a great course just having a bad week. I saw decline and decay all around and it was tough to see.
Course is bad shape
This is my third time to the course this year. I live 10 mins away but the weekend rate usually keeps me looking elsewhere. I’ve been incredibly disappointed by the course conditions. To pay $105 I expect at the very least grass on fairways and greens. Some tee boxes were bare other than weeds. I won’t be playing there anytime soon until the inflated greens fees drop or some of the money is used for fertilizer, weed killer and seed.
HORRIBLE
This course is HORRIBLE. Management has let it go without any general maintenance. Greens were aerated recently and looked bad. Vert soft and slow. Course in general was missing grass EVERYWHERE. Tees were bare in areas. Bunkers had not been raked in a week. Fairways were high, roughs were bare. Weeds everywhere. This used to be a great course. I play here frequently, but its not worth the trip. Only good thing is staff. Food and beverage are still very good and bag drop staff very nice.
ALSO, beware of recent favorable reviews. They may be from Raspberry management.
Nice layout
The course design is very challenging,
The front 9 condition was bad, the back 9 was in better condition, don’t let
Mr Gary Player see the condition of the
Course.
Greens all sand and aeration holes.
Greens about the worst I have every played on
Hope they recover
Great layout
Too bad about conditions
Not worth it
tee boxes were mangled and destroyed. 1 out of every 3 greens were in decent shape. fairways were well conditioned but the tee boxes and greens need so much work that paying >$100 for the round is asinine. if they were aerated that would have been an improvement.
Conditions are just not good!
Pictures say it all. Don’t pay full price.
Don’t Pay Full Price!
If you can get a week day discounted deal, definitely go. It’s a great lay out. But course conditions are definitely not worth $105!! Fairways have multiple dry patches, greens do too. A couple of tee boxes are nearly bare! Not good.
Frustrating when courses like this one charge a premium rate, but don’t even deliver a mid range product.
