Golfer Reviews
Surprising for NOVA
Typically, for $60 (and at some courses, $99) you would expect 5 hour pace of play, destroyed tee boxes, gravel bunkers, and the usual Northern Virginia public golf experience.
Algonkian was a pleasant surprise, and one of the only public courses in NOVA that I have played and believe is priced for the product provided. Greens are excellent, bunkers are great, tee boxes are great, the only downside is the fairway is only slightly shorter than the rough. That being said, for $60, that is what I would expect. This course is a great example of getting what you pay for, instead of the usual NOVA “pay ridiculous amounts for terrible courses and a 6 hour round.”
Solid Course
Everything was great. I feel like $64 was a lot of money but it's in NOVA so that's about what I expected
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a great review. Nova Courses are very competitively priced and provide an excellent value. We hope you enjoyed your round and would come back to see us again.
Algonkian Golf Course
Very long and challenging. Need to stay in the fairway, as the rough is thick. I’m 70 years old and played from the white tees. Next time I’ll move up, but certainly plan on returning. Course was in great condition, and staff were friendly. Pace of play was fine.
Nice corse well managed, a little long for the ladies.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We hope to see you back again soon.
The Gonk
Course layout is nice as usual, scorable if you hit your tee shots straight. To no fault of their own, Algonkian is laid out in a regional park near the Potomac River, it is bug central. The cicadas didn't bother me as much as the gnats. Used bug spray several times in the round but all I could take away in my mind is the constant swatting, couldn't focus on 75% of my shots and after 13 holes I just wanted to finish the round. As I said no fault of theirs, just be prepared. Walked 18 in 3.5 hours, that was phenomenal.
Easy peasy fun
Beautiful right now. Basically flat with some water, but no fairway bunkers, just some tough rough when it's thick. Hometown friendly members.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a positive review. We are glad you enjoyed your visit to the course and hope to see you back again soon.
Crowded, slow, several temporary greens.
Frustrating round for a weekday afternoon. I gave up after 14 holes. Only the second time ever that I walked off a course.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I apologize that your experience was not a great one and if you would like to discuss it further please reach out to the golf course manager so we can have you back another time.
We are always trying to make improvements for our future guests.
This course is average
Driving range is awful. Trees overhead with some branches making it difficult to hit from some of the bays. Course is good. Greens and fairways well maintained.
I think the course is easy. What makes it hard is that it's long and the greens are really hard to read. Yes some branches are a little low on the driving range but they'll be trimmed. The best thing about the trees is they provide shade all day long. No other course in this area has that. And when it's over 80 or 90 you'll be happy those trees are there. AND there's lots of shade on the course because all holes have trees on the sides of fairways, not really in Play unless you miss the fairway
Great course
Algonkian is a fun course. Relatively flat. No fairway bunkers, a few around some greens. What makes it a challenge is its long and the greens are really hard to read. Pace is usually 4 hours.
Just another day at the Gonk
I play the Gonk frequently. It's the price that keeps me coming back. And the pace of play. And the layout. And the location. The only complaint is the greens need to be rolled. Maybe they're growing them out and will roll them later, who knows... they aren't terrible, but definitely a little bumpy following the punch/dressing a few weeks ago. Otherwise, it was another round paired up w/ really nice people w. a good pace for a great price. Love the Gonk.
