Blue Heron Golf Course
About
Blue Heron Golf Course, formerly known as Carnation Golf Course, first opened in 1967 but underwent a major renovation, in addition to the name change, after it was bought in 2011. Located in the Snoqualmie Valley, the course would occasionally be overrun by the Snoqualmie River but thanks to improved drainage and irrigation features added in the renovation, the course is able to drain remarkably fast. At just a few yards shy of 6,000 yards, Blue Heron G.C. is on the shorter side but that is no indication of its level of difficulty. Golfers will face a variety of challenges including an abundance of bunkers strategically placed throughout. One of the toughest holes is the par-5 17th, which is a blind tee shot where a long iron might come in more handy than a driver.

Getting better
Greens are getting better. Rough is a little less rough. The team is making visible improvements. Clubhouse, food and drinks were great.
Overall a Fun Course
Course was closed for a couple of years and just opened back up about a month ago. A fun layout. Greens getting back into shape so slow but I would imagine better as time goes on.
Fun course. Friendly staff
I don’t know the full history of this course other than it’s had its struggles. New owners seem to be doing a great job with it. The front parking area and clubhouse are really nice. The driving range has screens and the bays are spread out. The course is tough. If you miss the fairway, you’re going to be searching for your ball in THICK grass. Greens are a little rough but they’re working on them. Staff was professional and friendly… Will be back.
Almost there
This course has a lot of potential. The previous owner really let the place go unfortunately a couple years ago. Its very clear the new owner is making a big effort to get the place in good order. The amenities upgrades so far like the driving range are top tier. It would be great if the course was getting the same TLC. If you dont stay in the fairway you'll be spending some time searching for your ball even if its just a small miss. The grass was 6+" in most areas. The greens definitely need some work, but they are way better than the burnt dead pads they used to be. I'll bet this place will be amazing mid to late 2026.
Needs a lot of work
I’m giving this place a lot of grace mentally because I know it just opened but it’s in rough shape at the moment. The greens are awful, like unplayable, patchy and bouncy. The fairways and rough are way too long, I lost numerous balls that should’ve been in plain sight. I think this place has a lot of potential and I plan on going back in a few months to see what they do with the place. The staff and a lot of the new stuff such as the clubhouse and driving range lead me to believe they are putting the work in.
Check out Tolt Golf Club
Keep in mind that the reviews on here are OLD. You need to go check out the newly restored Tolt Golf Club. the new ownership has really turned this place around with emphasis on the overall experience. They have a top golf style range and all the amenities you could ever want. Give it a shot, you won't regret it.
Backyard has better greens
All the greens were dried up so you were basically putting on dirt. One of the holes was so bad they just put the play in the middle of the fairway. Fairways also in horrible condition. Location is nice but the way they course is right now it’s horrible
Needs work. Was ok most the day, but when a blue flag was placed up front on 13, that annoyed me. Need a red flag there.
Calling This A Goat Track Would Be An Insult To Goats
Calling this a goat track would be an insult to goats. I get this is a rural course, but it has really gone down hill in the last 4 years I’ve been frequenting this track. When I’ve golfed at BH in the past, I knew what I was getting into: fairway grass a little longer, uneven and destroyed tee boxes, and a few brown patches on the greens. I was okay with this for under $40/round with a cart. However, the this last time that I played here it was atrocious.
Fairway grass was as long as the rough, and we spent more time looking for our golf balls (and losing a few) that were hit in the fairway than any other place I’ve played. The greens were nonexistent, a better name would have been the dirt because that’s all it was, no grass in sight. They were so bad that the dirt where the greens were supposed to be were so dry they cracked, like you would see in the desert during a record breaking drought. I’m sad this course has gone so far downhill, it really seemed like last year they started to put in more effort to make it a better course by mowing more often and cutting back blackberry bushes. Unfortunately, they didn’t continue with upkeep and I feel robbed for only paying $25 for the round I just played.
On a positive note, the young guy at the front desk was really nice and the restaurant staff were really helpful. They’ve made slight improvements to the driving range by cutting a strip of grass down so you don’t have to practice hitting in 4inch grass like before. Pace of play was pretty quick because no one was putting, they were just picking up their ball and adding 2 strokes when they hit it on what should have been the green. Finally, the gas carts are newer so they won’t have the debacle they’ve had the last few years of carts dying on the course and them leaving them in the fairways for a few weeks before they figure out how to get them back to the barn.
Never again
Decided that I will never play this course again. Even with hot deal it’s a total rip off. They shouldn’t be called greens, they should be called sand planes. It’s ridiculous. I played there in winter and fall before, never this bad.
Greens in Rough Shape
Has been a fun and relatively inexpensive place to play with a handful of interesting holes, but the greens have really gone downhill. More than half the greens are more dirt than grass. When I played there last year there were a few rough patches on some greens but this is the worst I've ever seen greens on a course.
Greens look like they been through a war
Booked a last minute tee time and decided to give this place another chance and it got even worse. Pace of play and layout is great but when you have greens that don’t even resemble one you have problems.
So sad to see this course deteriorate
I last played here maybe 2 years ago - it was a bit rough, but now it is unplayable. The greens had very little, patchy grass. They were mostly dirt with weather cracks (not just some, all of them!). The fairways were not mown and full of weeds. Tee boxes were heavily used, divoted and again, very little grass. So very disappointing. I said the course was moderate for difficulty - due to poor conditions one couldn't hold a green with a great wedge shot, so add 2 or 3 strokes for this plus deplorable putting.
Terrible greens
Many greens were simply dirt! One or 2 holes had no green at all. The fairways were okay. If you want to practice your irons and driver then it's a decent price. Forget about the greens....rediculous!
Surface of the moon
The greens. All of them were in the worst condition. Not sure but should be half price. Also the fairways needed to be mowed. Grounds keeping????
What has happend this year
I played on Saturday the 25th of August, 2024 and unfortunately, the experience was far from what I had hoped for. While the golf carts were top-notch—comfortable, well-maintained, and equipped with all the latest features—the rest of the course left much to be desired.
The pace of play was painfully slow, making it hard to get into a rhythm. But the biggest disappointment was the condition of the greens. They were in terrible shape—scalped in many areas, almost no grass coverage, and cracked from what seemed like a severe lack of watering. It was like putting on a dried-out dirt lot rather than a proper green.
With such great carts, it's clear that the course has potential, but they need to seriously invest in the upkeep of the greens and improve pace-of-play management if they want to attract serious golfers. I hope they can turn things around because, in its current state, I can't recommend playing here.
Course was very poorly maintained. There was a note about a few holes being under maintenance however the entire course was a mess. So many leaves and grass clippings on the fairways ball were lost in plane sight. The greens looked like a topographic map they were half dead and bare with potholes and clumps making putting a joke. Flags were placed in odd locations - not in greens on several holes.
