Soooo Deer! Photo submitted by Julie7190744 on 07/08/2021
Excellent course for all skill levels
Course was in excellent condition. Multiple sets of tees for different levels of golfers, so choose wisely. A great shotmakers course.
Return to The Refuge. 10/19/2017
Challenging, enjoyable, shotmakers course. Not for beginners. Some forced carries. (#9 comes to mind!) Plenty of holes you can score on, though. Not a long course. Picturesque and peaceful. Well maintained. Love playing Refuge when we can make it north suburban location. October, 2017.
poor pace of play and GPS issues
slow , slow .slow found out a group ahead had 3 holes open in front of them, Gps unit didn't work for 4 holes and last time out it didn't work at all.
Above average course
The course was in excellent shape. Only complaints were: ball washer was bone dry and there were a lot of leaves on the course....finding your golf ball was sometimes difficult.
All track and.no infield.
Played this course many, many times. Story is the same since the days of the double-wide trailer clubhouse: play some golf and go somewhere else for post-round enjoyment.
The clubhouse with its faux bar/restaurant simply cannot keep up with the awesome golf course around it.
Great layout and conditions
Top ten for MN!
Needs better pace of play on Saturdays - 5 hour round.
A great mid-season course
I personally enjoy this course, I love the cat tails on some of the holes and the nature reserve aspect of the course. It is well maintained, the range is nice, clubhouse is awesome and it is a challenging course. The staff is average, I can't say they are welcoming but its not at a hotel. There is a bar but no restaurant, so its good for drinks but if you are hungry you may have to venture down HWY 65. I love the layout of this course and I think you will too. The greens are great and are challenging, and if you play from the correct tee you will find that this course is not a cake walk. I have played it 4 times so far this season and the 2 rounds mid to late season have been the best. Everything grows in nicely and gives the course a very nice setting.
Challenging
Great coarse and great value. Pin placement always challenging
To many single players
We had 10 singles played past us. My question is why ?
Excellent value, good layout
I play the Refuge several times a summer. It has a consistency of maintenance and is a very enjoyable layout. Played on a very busy day so had to cut short after 14 holes. That was my problem not the pace of play. The pace considering the number of players in the course was quite reasonable. Was included with a very nice group of golfers, which makes this a even better. Very enjoyable.
Course is ALWAYS in great shape!
A couple of our guys came from Wisconsin as it is well worth the drive up Hwy 65. Course is very scenic, plays as easy or tough as you want to make it from the tee-box, and its always in great shape. Appreciate the friendly staff and Groupon offering as well! Highly recommend!
Diamond in the rough!
Awesome course to play during the week due to less traffic.
this course is usually in great shape and you can usually move at a good pace. Greens had ball marks all over them. Had to wait on most all shots. 8 min tee times is crowded. For the price I would expect more.
Refuge golf course
the course is in perfect condition. Not a long course at all but very challenging. Have to use every club in your bag for the variety of shots you need to hit.
staff was very helpful and friendly.
do yourself a favor and take a trip up to the refuge-it's worth the drive.
Great Value
Play here alot. Value is great for price. The track is pretty fair, only 2 kind of wonky holes. Greens are usually in great condition, roll true, course staff needs to groom and clear debris more often through out the day thought. Tee boxes also need loads of work. Carts have a reasonable accurate gps. Overall a great course, worth the 30-40min drive from the cities.
Great value
Played late on a Saturday afternoon and got through in about 3.5 hours. Was stunned at how open it was on a beautiful day. Cost was only 25 riding, which is almost free!. It was low enough to get us to come from Plymouth. I've played the refuge many times in the past, but it had been a couple years. The course was very dry compared to what I was used to there. Nothing yet burned out as we have had lots of rain but notably dry especially the fairways. They are definitely not watering enough. Outside of that it was an enjoyable round.
